Summary: For the DVDs, not the show.
Review: I try to avoid writing reviews on Amazon. Usually if I buy the DVD, I already like it, so my opinion is biased. You know if you like the show or not, and I will not convince you otherwise.But, if you're like me, and have been rather disappointed with the sparse special features on the Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy, then I am here to tell you the King of the Hill is much better. Besides the more than 50 deleted scenes included within this set, commentaries on several episodes, a music video, and a 24 minute feature describing the process of the show, this DVD also has many other unique features that separate it from the rest of Fox's animated pack. Some of the commentaries are done by the characters. The first one of these that I saw, made me laugh pretty hard as Bill started complaining that nobody ever came to visit him. A little bit later, Dale brought up Red Bull, and Bill said how he mixed it with Vodka, and felt "all funny". These are a delight to listen to, and different from the commentaries on the other animated series that I already mentioned. I also enjoyed looking through the more than 60 rules that KotH creators give to its animators to ensure the show is animated well, and each DVD is introduced by a different character, with enjoyable interactive and animated menus. As well, many people have had complaints with the Simpsons lack of a "Play All" button. All deleted scenes and episodes have this button to satisfy those that need to watch five episodes in a row without pushing a single button. In short, I was really surprised at the quality of this DVD set. Its clear picture and sound, and its excellent features make this a must buy if you're a fan of the show. Take care!

Summary: Absolutely fabulous DVD set!
Review: I won't go on and on about how wonderful a show King of the Hill is. If you've seen it, you know. I just love Fox Sunday evenings, with KOTH and Simpsons back to back! (Malcolm in the Middle is good too, but I'll miss Futurama!) Anyway, I was really pleased with this set because not only do I get all the hysterical shows from the first season, but the extras are great too. Each episode has some short deleted scenes, which are fun to watch. It's interesting to see the scenes and think about how the tone of a scene would have changed completely if these little bits had been left in. Also, the commentaries are well above average. There's other fun stuff, too, like a Barenaked Ladies video. And the packaging is really attractive too! Each disc comes in it's own little case, and the three cases fit inside the slip cover...I like this better than the usual "fold-out" style of box sets, like the Simpsons sets. So if you're a fan of the show, the bonus materials alone are nearly worth the price. Truly one of my favorite boxed sets!! BUY IT!!!

Summary: The best FOX DVD set to date!
Review: In 1997, cartoonist Mike Judge, best known for his controversial Beavis and Butt-Head series, created a new series for Fox - King Of The Hill. The show tells the story of Hank Hill, who sells propane and propane accessories (and is unusually proud of it,) his wife Peggy, a substitute Spanish teacher who is very weird and has a high opinion of herself, and Bobby, their even more bizzare son who has hopes of becoming a prop comic. To quote Hank, "that boy ain't right." The family's neighbors only add to the comedy value. There's Bill, the Army barber who never got over his wife leaving him. There's Dale, the conspiracy nut. And of course, there's Boomhauer, the fast-talking ladies man (If you've seen Family Guy, you'll notice he and Quagmire are similar in many ways.) The series became an enormous success overnight. It was so successful, that Judge ended work on Beavis and Butt-Head to work on this series, and this series alone. To this day the series remains extremely popular and shows no signs of letting down. The first season was where it all began. The animation was crude and the voices weren't dead on, but it was still a damn funny show. Read on for episode summaries. Pilot - A group of people are lead to believing that Hank is an abusive father and husband. They try to take Bobby away to live with another family. Square Peg - When Peggy is recruited to teach sex ed, Hank insists Bobby not go. First appearance of Stewart Dooley (the red-haired kid with the deep voice) and the Strickland Propane building. The Order of the Straight Arrow - On a camping trip, the crew accidentally kills a whooping crane (an animal nearing extinction.) Hank's Got the Willies - When Hank catches Bobby playing his prized guitar with a piece of cheese (mimicking a comedy act he saw on TV,) Hank realizes he needs to get his son golfing to take his mind off comedy. Luanne's Saga - Buckley, Luanne's boyfriend, dumps her. Hank and the guys try to set her up with an all-American type guy, but she falls for Boomhauer instead. This episode features the first, and certainly not the last appearance of Chuck Mangione. Also featues the first appearance of Luly's Cafeteria, and the first look inside Boomhauer's house. Hank's Unmentionable Problem - Hank becomes constipated, and is forced to try various methods of curing it. First episode in which Peggy is seen playing Boggle. Westie Side Story - A family of Laotians moves into the neighborhood. Through an odd twist of events, the neighborhood thinks the new neighbors have butchered and eaten Ladybird, the Hill family dog. First appearance of Kahn, Minh, Kahn Jr. (AKA Connie), and Doggie. Shins of the Father - Hank's father, a World War II veteran with no shins, visits the Hill household. Bobby begins to mimic his downright rude behavior on a regular basis. First appearance of Didi, and the first non-flashback appearance of Cotton Hill. Peggy the Boggle Champ - Peggy takes Hank to Dallas for a Boggle championship. Once there, Hank ditches her and goes with the guys to a lawnmower convention. Keeping Up With Our Joneses - Hank catches Bobby smoking a cigarette, and forces him to smoke a whole carton. Before long, the entire Hill family is addicted to nicotine. My favorite episode of the first season. Plastic White Female - Bobby is invited to a boy and girl party, and to prepare for the possible kissing, he practices on Luanne's plastic hairstyling practice head. Hank The Company Man - Hank must go to extremes to please a potential propane customer. First appearance of Buck Strickland, though he is drawn in a much more crude fashion than in later seasons. Also the first appearance of M.F. Thatherton. King of the Ant Hill - When Hank tells Dale his services as an exterminator are no longer needed, Dale uses fireants to destroy Hank's new lawn. You may have noticed deviations from the original air dates toward the end of this set. My guess is that these episodes were organized in WRITING order, not AIR order. You'll be pleased to know that these aren't the syndication edits, nor are the episodes edited in any way (like with the Simpsons and Family Guy DVD episodes, both of which featured some editing.) The way this package is set up is VERY similar to the Family Guy DVD set, and that's a good thing. There is no shortage of bonus material, either. You get deleted/extended/animatics scenes, a "making of" featurette, a character profile gallery featuring early sketches of the characters, commercials for the series, a music video that features characters from the series, and even the official "do's and don't's of animation guide" that the animators use! And, of course, each disc has an introduction by one of the characters. Amazon says there is an extra called "Easter Egg: Mowing Lesson With Charlie." This is either a misprint, or a hidden extra. This is, by far, the BEST DVD SET that FOX has released for one of its animated series to date. It was almost worth the wait (NOTHING is worth the insanely long waits between sets that FOX forces us to sit through). These are excellent episodes of an excellent series. Unlike The Simpsons, King Of The Hill had the luxury of always being funny. Even if you're just a casual fan of the series, I strongly recommend this set. Unfortunately, the people at FOX are extremely slow releasing DVDs, meaning Season Two won't arrive for a few months. Until then, kill the time with this, or pick up the already released Futurama or Family Guy sets.

Summary: King of the Hill=Great T.V.
Review: King of the Hill is a classic show, and I am estatic to see that it has been FINALLY released on DVD. I truly applaud this show, as it has some of the most offbeat, yet hillarious humor not seen in a lot of the "mainstream" comedy shows today. Some may say the show is a bit "redneck-ish", but me being an African American male, I can easily relate to the plights of Hank Hill, and how he desperately wants to protect his friends and family, and all the hilarity that ensues. I would recommend this DVD set for any and everyone that needs to laugh, and laugh out loud.

Review: King Of The Hill is a great show. It definetly beats The Simpsons. The Simpsons dosnt come close to as good to King Of The Hill because The Simpsons totally sold out I mean they had Nsync on their show for ... sake. The Simpsons did this just to get 12 year old girls to watch thier show, people don't relize this. Any way King Of The Hill beats The Simpsons, not enough people relize this. DVD of King Of The Hill is a great DVD you get plenty of episodes and pleny of laughs so go out and buy it.

Review: King of the Hill is just an okay show. Not too many laughs but it's pretty good. You can't say really anything about Mike Judge because he created one of the best shows of all time 'Beavis and Butthead.' Here are all the episodes for season one.

Summary: Great fun! Still laughing days later!
Review: KING OF THE HILL is one of the best written shows on TV...PERIOD. The only show I would rank higher is The Simpsons. King Of The Hill has a great cast of characters. The story lines are intelligent and funny and the episodes never lose their charm even after repeated viewing. I can't wait for the rest of the seasons to come out on DVD. Buy this first season of King Of The Hill...you won't regret it!

Review: Since I agree with the majority of the reviews here,I'll keep my praise short and sweet.I think KOTH is a great show,and so I bought this dvd collection as soon as I laid my eyes on it.Any fan of KOTH or Mike Judge for that matter,will love this set.There are also alot more extras in this dvd set,than with the Futurama set.For instance intros on the dvds by Hank,Bobby,and Dale.Interviews and commentaries by the diffrent voice actors was also great.Man,the lady that does the voice of Luanne is a hottie! Erhmm... well the do's and don'ts list of drawing the Hills was interesting and makes you realize how much detail really goes into animation. The only reason why I give 4 stars,is because it would have been nice to have 2 or 3 full seasons...I would have even paid alot more to have more KOTH.13 episodes just doesn't seem like all that much esp. after watching the Family Guy dvd set.Still though this is a great set,and I look forward to buying future installments.

Review: Taking place in a far more realistic universe than The Simpsons or the wild, out-of-control Family Guy this show is a little bit more mature and refined. The humor is more grown-up and characters more dense. King of the Hill is way past cool from the very first episode and I am so happy that the first season has been released on DVD. I had no hesitations in buying it right away. It's well worth the money and I eagerly await Season 2 (please make it soon). The extras are pretty cool, with commentaries on certain episodes, loads of funny deleted scenes, a pretty good documentary and a music video. We really couldn't have asked for a better start to King of the Hill on DVD. Bring on the rest!
