Summary: Absolutely Perfect!
Review: This movie is the ideal horror flick. It has everything: gore, comedy, action, and even a tad bit of drama. It's one of the rare movies that's actually scary. Too many movies rely on expensive effects and big star power, but not this one. The effects are obviously cheap and the actors are (then) little known. Nevertheless, this movie has become a cult classic. With it's sick humor and surprisingly creative death scenes, it has become an all-time favorite for this horror fan! Also, Bruce Campbell is sooooo hot!

Summary: cult classic
Review: the plot is thin the acting is horrid and the set is always over or under lit its great! What makes the movie though is the increadibly inovative (for the time) camera work very energetic and Sam Raimi definetly knows how to create a great atmosphere. however i feel it was partly ruined by the remastering the extremely poor quality of the earlier releases made the atmosphere more freakish

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: This is one of the most original movies I have ever seen. Sam Riam's camera techniques are amazing giving the movie a more effective look. I was never scared of movies until I saw this. It is impossible to explain how good this movie is. Just buy it, watch it, and enjoy it. "Kiss your nerves Good-Bye"

Summary: Do you like gory movies?
Review: The gore is beyond anything you have ever seen. It is an amazing movie. One of the coolest movies of all time, it is remarkable. Not just the greatest movie but the greatest trilogy. Yes that's right there are two more movies to the evil dead series also masterpieces, Evil dead 2: dead by dawn, and Army of Darkness. Army of Darkness is a more comedy than horror but is still made of the same stuff. "Kiss your nerves good-bye" Sam Raimi does an amazing job using camera angles and techniques to make the movie come alive. But that's not the only thing living. It is about demon's so if you like getting scared and like movies like, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on elmstreet than Evil dead is the movie for you.

Summary: A creative piece
Review: Sam Raimi would be an interesting man to meet knowing he made this film. The movie was a low budget one, but had characteristics that no other high budget usually will have. That would be the creativity. Many films these day rely on special effects rather than creativity. Bruce Campbell plays his role excellently. He is much an underappreciated actor. I love the scenes where there is something chasing the characters, but you do not see exactly what it is. Also, the tree violating a girl's unmentionables, only Sam Raimi could think of something so so...I can't think of the word to say. GRADE: B+

Summary: Great movie, great DVD
Review: Thank you, Elite, for re-releasing this movie. The Bruce Campbell commentary on this movie is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I can't wait for the SE versions of AoD and ED2.

Summary: SCARY AND FUNNY
Review: It was scary and funny. It was totally awsome, lots of blood but lots of atmosphere generated by strange camera angles and good directing. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Classic Horror, not a pretender.
Review: For Horror fans only. Remember in the eighties, looking through the isles at the video store. The video boxes all looked so gruesome. But, what was inside was usually a disappointment.

Not this time !!!

I had been waiting for years to find a horror movie to scare me. It was years since my father had taken me to see "The Exorcist" at the age 11. I will never forget that experience. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the "The Evil Dead" is "The Exorcist" but it makes Freddy Kruger and Jason Vorhees look like Fred Flintstone and Jason Bateman. The production values aren't the same as "Friday the 13th" or "Nightmare on Elm Street", but this is not what the Jonra (?) is all about.

"Night of the Living Dead" is still a film that we use as a measuring stick today. I have been careful not to compare this film to another, but I will say that it is a "Night of the Living Dead" of the eighties.

Sam Raimi's direction is awesome, from the "first person" perspective of "the evil" to the shot from underneath the basement stairs of Bruce Campbell trying to find his buddy. Yes, it's a bit self-indulgent but that's what makes us take notice of first time film makers.

There are very few horror films that satisfy, but "The Evil Dead" is "pure chewing satisfaction."

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must for cult\B horror movie buffs, frightingly funny.
Review: The original in a set of three devilisly clever movies about the spirits of the dead and the famed book of the dead,The Necrinomicon. Sam Raimi is a master of what he does and if I could give this any more than 5 stars I would.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: one of the best horror movies ever made
Review: stands out beside night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, halloween, psycho, the silence of the lambs, and friday the 13th as one of the best horror films ever. before all this, i never knew the power of low-budget films. never knew they could do all that! a must see and must have for all horror fans! sequels are equallly as good but this is the best one! the mpaa left it unrated because of the ultra-gore and violence.defineltey x-leveled and simply the bloodiest and one of the scariest and stylishest films of the genre.
