Summary: Better than the Simpsons
Review: It's hard to believe but it's true. The Simpsons have been on a long time now and even though they are classics some seasons are starting to feel like it's all been done before. But cheers to Matt Groeing for thinking up this clever and irrevent series. The only problem is that it never caught on like the simpsons. And that is a real shame. With all the other junk that's on Fox these days (paradise hotel ring a bell to anyone.) Something smart like this gets cancelled Fry said it best in the single female lawyer episode that people watch tv to watch something they've seen a million times before and that anything new and clever scares people. Well he's right because this was new and clever and should be still going strong like the simpsons. I found this series a little to late and now I wish I would have watched when my brother told me to watch because he was right it is great.

Summary: one of the best
Review: It seems to have become cliche to lament the cancelation of short-lived and seldom viewed shows. In many cases people seem to overstate the quality of some shows (or movies or music for that matter) that aren't popular because its just kind of the "hip" thing to do (*cough* family guy *caugh*). I can honestly say though that Futurama is one of those cases where the praise is justly deserved, and that it really a shame that the show was cancelled.

Futarama may not have been the best animated show on TV (King of the Hill, though very different, I would consider slightly better, as I would the Simpsons in its prime), but that doesn't stop it from being an amazing show. That the series is out on DVD is especially significant due to the fact that there has not been nearly as much access to it in reruns as we have been treated to with the Simpsons and King of the Hill.

You can see a lot of Simpsons-influenced aspects to Futurama, from the animation to the sythesis of slapstick, satire, and characterization. Frye also seems to be channeling Homer Simpson at times. But where the series goes beyond where the Simpsons went is in the emotional weight of the characters.

Frye in particular, despite being dim-witted, shows a lot more emotional depth than the Homer Simpson of today. Frye's lonliness in being the only person left from his time, and his longing for Leela, are played out very well in the course of the series. Though many aspects of the show are very over the top or toungue in cheek, it doesn't cloud or cheapen the dramatic elements. Despite the often far-out plots, this is by and large a very character driven show, which makes it even sadder to see the series go, as it would have seemed right to know the futures of Frye, Lela, and the rest of Planet Express. For now we'll just have to settle for the wonderful episodes we've been left with.

Summary: A great season and more!
Review: I believe there are only 16 episodes in season 2, ending with "Anthology of Interest I".

Since there are 19 episodes included on the dvd we get the first 3 episodes of season 3, "The Honking" - in which a curse turns Bender into a were-car, "War is the H-word" - Fry and Bender decide to go to war with Leela going under cover to protect them, and "The Cryonic Woman" - in which Fry re-encounters his ex-girlfriend from the past.

Along with the 16 episodes from season 2 this is a great bargain!Season 2's highlight episodes are; "Xmas Story" - The year 3000's scary new santa, "why must i be a crustacean in love" - Dr. Zoidberg once again humourously and idiosyncratically explored as he searches for a mate, "A Bicyclops Built For Two" - Leela meets the only male cyclops in the universe but there's more to him than him than meets the eye, and of course "Anthology of Interest I" - a 'what if' machine answers Fry's question of 'what if he had never been frozen from the year' 2000, Bender's question of 'what if he were a 500 ft. robot?' and Leela's simple question of 'what if she were ("just a little) more impulsive?' Who doesn't love 'what if' episodes?!

The Australian dvd comes with audio commentaries for all episodes, deleted scenes and more! I'm not sure if the same will be released for the US and other areas but fingers crossed cause the commentaries are a hoot and a half!
A must buy season! Full stars!

Summary: Great Season
Review: This dvd will have the production season 2, meaning that instead of 16 episodes it will have 19 with 3 that were aired in season 3. The episodes are all very good, having some of my favorites. The episodes and a brief description are as follows:
I Second That Emotion: The professor installs an empathy chip in Bender when he flushes Nibbler down the toilet.
Brannigan Begin Again: Zapp Brannigan gets a job at planet express.
A Head in the Polls: Bender sells his body for profit and it goes to Richard Nixon who runs for president of earth.
Xmas Story: In year 3000, Santa Claus is an Eight-Foot Robot that everyone fears.
Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love: Zoidberg is back to his home planet for mating season.
Put Your Head on My Shoulder: Fy and Amy start an office romance before Valentines day.
Lesser of Two Evils: The professor hires Flexo a robot who looks exactly like Bender.
Raging Bender: Bender becomes a superstar in the brutal Ultimate Robot Fighting League.
A Bicyclops Built for Two: While online Leela meets the last remaining male cyclops.
A Clone of My Own: Professor Farnsworth revives his clone and goes for retirement at the "near death star."
How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back: Hermes is sent on vacation and is replaced by Morgan Proctor, an attractive woman that has a crush on Fry.
The Deep South: After their ship sinks on a fishing trip, the crew has to build a town under the sea and Fry finds love in a mermaid.
Bender Gets Made: The secret robot mafia recruits Bender.
My Problem With Popplers: The crew lands on an unknown planet and discover a rare and strangely addictive kind of life called popplers.
Mother's Day: Mom, founder of Mom's Friendly Robot Company, enlists all robots in an attempt of world domination.
Anthology of Interest I: Professor Farnsworth creates a "what if" machine. Bender wonders what if he's 500 ft. tall, Leela is a little bit more impulsive, and what if Fry would have never been frozen 1000 years ago?
War is the H-Word:Bender and Fry volunteer for military duty to enjoy the benefits of the soldiers's discount only to have war break out later that day.
The Honking:A curse turns Bender into a were-car and tries to run over Fry.
The Cryonic Woman: Fry and Bender get everyone fired after joy-riding in the planet express ship.

Summary: Best Reason To Hate FOX...For Cancelling this show.
Review: The Pitts.... still on the air
Cedric the Entertainer.... still on the air
30 Seconds to Fame.... still on the air

Futurama.... Cancellation Announced

You have got to be kidding me. Shows like Cedric, The Pitts, and 30 Seconds to fame...not to mention Married by America, Temptation Island 3, and Wanda at Large still get production dollars, but they are cutting Futurama, and they already cancelled the Family Guy? Jeez. There truly is no accounting for taste. Futurama really hits it's stride in Season 2, but even Season 1 was sharp, and well written. Buy this DVD and you will be turned on to the best show you've never seen. Trust me and everyone else that write a review for this DVD set, you will be glad you bought it. And try out Season 1 and the Family Guy Seasons 1 and 2. Now that is MUST SEE TV.

As for the content, what can I say! War Is The H-Word was my favourate and almost never leaves the DVD player. XMas stroy is also a excelent epesode, also you get the production season so you have 19 epesodes!!

Summary: Volume Two: The Most Consistent
Review: While Volumes Three and Four of Futurama contain most of the all-time great episodes (along with some of the worst as well), I believe Volume Two to be the most consistently good. "Anthology of Interest I," "War is the H-Word," "Put Your Head on My Shoulders," "X-Mas Story", and "A Head in the Polls" are among the best, with Dr. Zoidberg's "Why Must I Be A Crustacean in Love?" possibly being the funniest (if you like Zoidberg). Overall, it's pretty hard to find a poorly done piece, and almost every episode has enough good points to watch it over again. The only problem is, while all of this stuff is good, it's rarely "great." After all, it is the later episodes that become both funnier and more emotionally rendered, and here everything is simply well-done. This is NOT a bad point, however, because the quality of this Volume is amazing. Again, almost EVERY episode here is good. Buy it.
