Summary: FINALLY!!!!
Review: I have actually written my name on the online petition last year to get Party of Five released on DVD. Not sure if it was because of efforts like that or similar petitions, but it's finally here and I couldn't be happier! This was one of my all-time favorite shows with depth, drama and comedy all while still being very 'real' in a sea of teen-dramas that were anything but.
So ok, I'm guessing everyone who's reading this review already knows about how great the show was so I'll focus on the DVD.

But first, I'll start by addressing two other reviews here with low-star rankings. First, to the person who said it was a poor-quality DVD with audio out of sync and color blotches, etc., that's not true at all and is a common trait of off-brand DVD players or even budget versions of name-brands and especially computer-based DVD players (although I'm not sure which the reviewer was using.) What I can say however is *every* DVD here plays pristinely on all of my equipment, including a notebook with a DVD drive. Perfect colors, perfect syncing, everything. It actually looks clearer and more razor-sharp than the original shows that aired on TV showing they most likely went right from the masters right to DVD rather than converting to an interim step first.

Second, to the person who commented that they didn't like how the producers 'decided to strip the opening credits and song from the first disc' didn't follow the show (or just doesn't remember), nor did they listen to the commentaries by the producers or actors. If they did, they'd remember that there *was* no opening credits or theme song for the first few episodes because there wasn't enough footage of the show yet recorded to make the opening scene! These DVD episodes are literally exactly as they appeared on TV, missing openings and all, including calling the Bodeans' song 'Closer to Free' 'Closer to Five' in the end credits! This is exactly what was aired. That's the way DVD-from-TV should be.

Which brings me back to the DVD extras. I really like that there's both producer and actor commentaries for a few episodes, but I'd say too few. For example, there's only one on discs 1 and 2 (with five episodes on the disc) and none at all on disc 3.

Also, the two 'special feature' interviews at the end are almost verbatim dialog between them and seem to be the same interview just shot on different days on different sets and edited differently. This of course isn't the actual case, and I attribute it to trying to remember something from ten years ago, but it did seem a little redundant. (For instance, at least three separate times Scott Wolf explains what 'Just look at the dog!' means. I'm glad he did--better too much than not enough--but I wish they would have extended the interviews to cover more topics perhaps including more about the actual filming or how Lacey Chabert trained to look sooo da*n convincing playing that violin even though she admits she can't play even one note!

Something else that I can't figure out is why was Neve Campbell left out of the actors commentaries for the episodes? They never said. At first, I thought maybe she wasn't part of the DVD release at all, but she is in the extra features, plus she's ironically the only name mentioned on Amazon as a cast member (without clicking 'more') and is even named in the title on the site! Go figure!

So to sum up, I love these DVDs. Finally one of the best shows on TV is making a come-back for the DVD-lovers out there. Plus the bonus extra interviews, etc. just make them that much more appealing. (Again though, I do wish there were more from the cast and crew as far as commentaries of the episodes. Maybe seasons 2-6) But all the extras are the 'nice to haves'. The 'must haves' are the episodes themselves which are faithfully replicated exactly as they aired. Perfectly.

Watch all of the episodes and definitely go through the interviews and commentaries and you'll quickly see why it won a Golden Globe and was called by TV Guide 'The Best Show you're Not Watching!'

Ok... now will someone tell NBC to release Hidden Hills seasons 1 through 1 (smirk) on DVD! Man, I'm still ticked that didn't make it to season 2! What a hilarious show!!!

Summary: We need more seasons!!
Review: I just bought myself the Party Of Five DVD set and I could not get enough! I had forgotten just what a great series it was. I am saddened by reports that the other seasons may not be released. I just can't imagine that the sales could be that low. I hope more and more people who are sitting on the fence will decide to buy Season 1. It is well worth the money.

Summary: DVD set is excellent
Review: I just picked up Party of Five Season One, and I am very happy. Since most who will be buying the DVD set know the story, I will write about the DVD only. The video quality of the DVD is better than when the series first aired on TV. I was pleasantly suprised how clear the picture was, with deep colors, and no over-saturation. The sound is good. Overall, this is an excellent set of DVD's (there are 5 DVD's in the set).

If you were a fand of POF, then you will not be disappointed with the quality of the DVD set. My only gripe, and it is a small one, is there is a 2 second black screen where the commercials used to be. I am sure there must be a better way to transition from a scene to a scene than to use a black screen. But like I said, it is only a second, and it in no way distracts from the storyline. The only reason I am bringing it up is so perhaps FOX can find a better transition when they release season two.

I am giving Season One 5 stars, because I love the show, because the quality of the DVD's is better than what originally aired on TV, and because it is a great value. I paid $40 for the set, and recieved 22 episodes and a DVD with many extra's. That comes out to less than 2 dollars an episode, and I love that price point (compare that to Deep Space Nine Season One which has two less episodes but costs over $100.00).

All I can say is Thank You FOX, you made a great set.

Summary: Theme song
Review: I just wanted to post to correct the person who wrote about the theme song. The first disc, episodes 1-5, have no theme song, but after that it's in every episode.

Summary: Glad to see this show get a DVD set
Review: I loved the first 3 seasons of this show. It was a great show and had an excellent run on TV! I'm glad the studio finally came out with the DVD set. The acting and writing was superb, especially the first season. This was one of the last great family dramas to air on TV.

Summary: The best part of growing up!
Review: I miss this cast so much, they were like family! It will be great to own a dvd copy of the best tv drama of my younger years. Its been a while (2000) since the series concluded! I do hope they keep the seasons coming out on dvd. A must have!

Summary: Hallelujah!
Review: I signed a couple of online petitions a few years ago, trying to get this on DVD sooner. Thank goodness it's finally here! The show is addictive, even my boyfriend can sometimes get caught up in it! It's poignant, it's adorable, it's aggravating---when you see people you have come to know and love messing up their lives. True, it's only a TV show, but it's one that touches your life.

Dying for the other seasons to come out! Hope the sales are good enough to make them want to let them out!

Summary: A breath of fresh air
Review: I was addicted to this show when it aired here in the UK. Unfortunately, it never went passed season 3 over here. (There was a TV vote to choose between season 4 of PO5 or a re-run of season 1 of Dawson's Creek?!) I therefore pleed with all my heart that all six seasons are released, so I can finally see what happened. I went hunting for the PO5 house in San Francisco when i went on holiday there in 2000, but didn't find it before I had to leave!! I am going to add this to my order now!!! I think I'd better buy a multi region DVD player at the weekend!

Summary: Finally!!! I'm so excited!!!
Review: I was just visiting Amazon reading up on the next Felicity (the one show that got me through me when PO5 went off the air) DVD being released when I saw that Party of Five was being released on DVD. I was shocked and thrilled. I have been hoping for this for years and was told it would probably never be released and here it is. I will definitely buy the whole series (Seasons 1-6) and will watch them over and over. Party of Five is one of the best shows there ever was. If you like touching dramas which make you feel a lot of feelings, get this dvd set and watch it. This was one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm so happy that it's coming out on DVD. I'd also like to see Time Of Your Life (the spinoff of PO5 with Jennifer Love Hewitt) released on DVD. That was a good show but unfortunately was cancelled. It would be nice to have the one season of it on dvd.
