Summary: Warners Cash-in Once Again!
Review: This so-called new edition is totally unnecessary and is yet another example of film distributors cashing-in on the gullible public. Kubrick personally supervised and we assume therefore was perfectly happy with the original set which features seven of the greatest movies ever made. The Dolby surround mix is presumably added to satisfy the demands of the Techno-buffs, who in is this case are totally missing the point. The original set features The Shining and Full Metal Jacket in full-screen which again was a deliberate choice of a demanding director viewing his movies on the small screen. This new set just proves what little respect Warners have for Kubrick's express directions, not to mention his memory, and how making a quick buck on re-issues is the priority. I can't comment on the worthiness of the 'Extra' disc as I haven't seen it. But,I can't agree more with my friend from Cambridge, Eyes Wide Shut is ESSENTIAL to have in the European version and NOT the one provided here.

Buy the original set instead. Save some money. My guess is the ninth disc will be available later on as a single issue?

Summary: No need for dolby 5.1
Review: As an owner of the previous collection I do not think that the dolby 5.1 remix will add anything to the movies (2001 was already in dolby 5.1). I've enjoyed those movies time and time again and was never annoyed by the sound. The first collection was far from perfect, laking on the extras side, but the movies speak for themselves. And Eyes Wide Shut being still rated R, I guess the american public will still be considered as a second zone citizen (I'm really glad to be back in Europe). Frankly, the European version just shows how the american's censure system is flawed. I guess that what make South Park so funny! So even if the remix is a welcome addition for a lot of people, it's not enough to trash the old collection for the new one. I just need to find a way to get this 9th disc somehow...

Summary: Great Set
Review: This new set is being fully remastered in Dolby 5.1 surround sound on DVD. It is definitely worth the extra bucks for the added extras, remastered picture, and new soundtracks. Also, a documentary about Kubrick is included as a 9th disc. This set will be great. I recently saw the new cover art for all of the films and it is superb. The new cover for The Shining is excellent.

Summary: Kubrick Was A Genius...
Review: ..and this set proves it. This set brings us 8 films directed by Stanley Kubrick. He covered it all. From romance (Lolita, Eyes Wide Shut), comedy (Dr. Strangelove), action (Full Metal Jacket, Barry Lyndon), to horror (The Shining), experimental filmmaking (A Clockwork Orange), and even science fiction (2001: A Space Odyssey). This set is a MUST for any Kubrick fan out there, a film buff, or anyone interested in his work. Recommended.

Summary: THE PERFECT GIFT FOR YOUR WEIRD RELATIVE...
Review: ...who, like me , thinks SK is the greatest director who has ever lived. I would give the collection five stars, but I'm deducting one for the lack of widescreen format with Full Metal Jacket, and for the absence of Paths of Glory....a film that features what is arguably Kirk Douglas' greatest performance.

Love Kubrick? Love someone who does? You MUST buy this!

Summary: Must Buy for All Film Fans!
Review: This set is priceless. Kubrick is the greatest film maker of all-time, and here's the proof. The best part of all this is that the documentary of his unique life is included. This alone is worth the price of admission!
