Summary: Campy horror at it's best! A terrific DVD set.
Review: The "Nightmare on Elm Street" series was, in my opinion, the only one that justified the number of sequels it had. It is also the most entertaining, original, and frightening of all the 80's "slasher" films. They may be a campy as a row of tents, but they are still among my favorite guilty pleasures.

The first three movies are without a doubt the best, with part 4 being okay, and part 5 being awful. "Freddy's Dead" capped off the series nicely, while "New Nightmare" found a brilliant way of making another movie as a self-parody, rather than a cookie-cutting of the older movies. Many don't consider it to be part of the series, but it defintely is in my opinion. I will always pick Freddy over Jason or Michael Myers for his devious sense of humor. Who can forget the classic line "You've got the body, and I've got the brains". Great line.

Collectors can enjoy a whopping 8 DVDs of Nightmare material, including all 7 films and a bonus DVD filled with behind-the-scenes extras, interviews, and other goodies. I enjoyed the book, but the extra DVD is a real bonus. It made the DVD set more enticing, considering the price tag.

Unlike the Friday the 13th or Halloween movies, which specialized in cookie-cutter sequels and little to no variation, the Nightmare series is the one that is worth owning on DVD. The originality, the chills, and the fun make the series stand out from all the other campy 80's horror series. I can join the rest of the horror movie fans in saying "They don't make em like this anymore".

Summary: Great Packaging of the Series
Review: Each DVD in this set has special features and the like. All movies have similair menu formats meaning that they were designed for the set, which makes it consistant and enjoyable. There is even an extra DVD full of special features inclucing, interviews with freddy, music videos, cast and crew, and even Clive Barker himself. There is this cool way to find all sorts of hidden facts and videos in an interactive way. You control you way through a dark maze and solve riddles and unlock doors. Really great set!

Summary: Freddy's Back with a BANG
Review: In Amazon.com's review of the Nightmare on Elm St. DVD box set, Halloween's Michael Myers is the "father," Friday the 13th's Jason is the "son," and NOES's Freddy Krueger is the "unholy spirit." In my opinion however, as best said by Freddy Krueger, "THIS IS GOD." I couldn't think of a better box set to be created. As a huge fan of the Nightmare on Elm ST. series (which can be seen on my reviews for the NOES 4 soundtrack on amazon.com), I was so excited to see the collection released on DVD that I bought it, then bought a DVD player so I could watch them. My friends thought I was a little nuts since I already own all 7 on VHS, but any true fan understands. Freddy isn't an icon, he's a part of history among all the greats (probably won't be taught in school but oh well). Many of today's top horror films run along the same lines as NOES where the killer(s) have personalities rather than going on a killing spree for who knows what dull reason (as so many horror films of the past exhibited). This box set does have it's small disappointments, however: NOES 5 is rated R. I have the unrated version on VHS and thought they'd use that on the DVD. And, at least on my dvd player, the labyrinth on the 8th disc has glitches but can be worked around with the chapter search. I was also surprised that scenes included in the criterion collection laserdisc of NOES 1 weren't included, i.e. the one where Nancy's mother tells Nancy that she wasn't an only child, Freddy killed her sibling years before. Yet these faults are small in contrast to what the box set does have, like interviews, behind the scenes footage, commentary, intervies, and much, much more. I only hope that when other series are put onto DVD in the future, they have features close to those in the Nightmare on Elm St. DVD box set.

Summary: The Ultimate Nightmare!
Review: This box set containing all of the films(as of this writing) of the Nightmare on Elm Street series is a pure bundle of horrific fun.
Not all of the films are created equal of course(not many in any series are)and they may have lost some of their original clout but they are still a delight to watch and follow along to.
Robert Englund as Freddy literally "owns" the part. Most of his lines in the films may have been written for him(there are exceptions) but he made Freddies' walk and mannerisms all his.And thankfully this is one of the reasons New Line never has(and hopefully never will)replace him with anyone else.
Another thing I loved about Freddy as the series progressed was his tongue in cheek humour. This just enhanced the whole character of Freddy to a greater degree.
As the extras that are contained in this set reveal you will find out that Robert Shaye the head of New Line pictures and even the creator Wes Craven have been, and unusually so,very concerned and aware of fans concerns regarding the series every step of the way. Both have gone to great pains to keep a consistancy throughout the entire series and stay true to its' central theme and characters.
The bonus disc contains a plethora of extras that will satisfy just about everyone. It also contains a "labyrinth" that one must go through in an exact and certain way in order to enjoy all of its' 'hidden' features. Not easy to get through for sure but an enjoyable way to pass some time and learn alot about these films that you didn't know before.
In conclusion I highly recommend this set to all fans of the series. The transfers are for the most part very well done and I'm sure it will not fail to disappoint most viewers.
