Summary: Poor Poor Us I Love Lucy fans! Lucky Paramount to cash in!
Review: If I could give this set NO stars I would. Not that I am not a I Love Lucy fanatic- But I will not buy this garbage. 4 episodes per disc is a waste. If other studios can put 4 - 45 Min episodes of shows such as Smallville, Buffy, and Angel which LOOK PRISTINE!!! Why cant they put 6 episodes of Lucy and release a 6 or 7 disc set- in a fold out box? 9 DVD's - in 9 seperate DVD's cases??? That takes up so much room!! Previous reviewers were right do we need 46 extra DVD cases? The set is GIGANTIC!!!!!!!! Do you realize that if they dont re-release this trash, and release season 2 in the same way then just two seasons of I Love Lucy will take up as much room as the Complete 7 seasons of Buffy?? (Not that Buffy is fully released yet, but all the boxes are the same size except season one). So instead of dedicating one Shelf of my DVD cabinet to Lucy I will need a WHOLE NEW CABINET. Also I agree with the prior reviewers the packaging artwork is HORRIBLE! It does not match and it is huge. The people in the DVD department at Paramount should be fired for this. Not only is the price high, the set is too big and clumsy and ugly!! Should not be done this way. I will NOT be buying this set- which really upsets me because I really looked forward to this release. I dont see how some justify the way this was done. I guarentee if they released two I LOVE LUCY sets- the HUGE set and a compact set with 6 episodes per disc- the defenders of this release would be buying the compact version!! Think about that!

Summary: Disappointed in Tokyo!!
Review: I am just so disappointed with all of you folks at Paramount for making such POOR decisions about the packaging/releasing of I Love Lucy! Who the hell is in charge over there?!? I have been looking so forward to the day when I could finally own the entire series on DVD in a nicely designed, compact style, and affordable package! However, it seems to be just the opposite now, doesn't it?!?! Mr./Mrs. GREEDY at Paramount needs the BOOT! ASAP! Until you get it together, I REFUSE from this second on to purchase ANY (and I mean it!) Paramount DVD release! Wake up!

Summary: Paramount- Horrible
Review: One Star for Paramount- NOT I Love Lucy. I am a huge fan of I Love Lucy. I see some reviews defending this product. I just dont agree- Sorry. The beauty of DVD's are the storage capacity on each disc, as well as the compact nature so they do not take up much room. Do we really want 46 individual I Love Lucy DVD's? Do you realize you will need a whole new room just to store them!! I think it is ridiculous. I REFUSE to buy this product. When Paramount began to release them, I held off buying them as I called Paramount and they said by the end of the year they will be releasing it in Season Format. I am sorry- but they could fit 6 episodes per disc WITHOUT compromising the quality- a 6 disc set- maybe 7 for bonus materials in a NICE COMPACT fold out box. Even if they packaged it like the Charlies Angel series (compact slim line cases) even that would have been better and more compact. I also feel this is all money. $14.95 for the individual releases? $135.00 to complete the 1st series- then to bundle it all together and get it for $65.00 (Sams Club- good price)- but doesnt that just burn all the people who bought them individually? They should re-release this- and repackage it. 9 DVD's is ALOT of room. Plus they release them way too slow. I think the MORONS over at Paramount need to be replaced and get someone in there who knows what they are doing. Such a disrespectful way to treat the fans of I Love Lucy as well as the consumers for Paramount. It will take them 6 years to compelete the series alone.....Who wants to wait that long. I refuse to buy this. Call Paramount- get the sales departement and make your complaints- it is the ONLY way to change it. Too bad FOX didnt have a say- and release them like the Buffy DVDs'- great packaging- not much room. This Lucy set is one season and takes up as much room as my 3 SEASONS of Buffy!!!!! RIDICULOUS. Hopefully they will get their act together/ Also- has anyone notices how HORRIBLE the I Love Lucy Season art work is? Yellow DVD boxes, with bad artwork in a HOT PINK slip case? That does not match at all!!!! LOL !!you really just need to laugh it off- but face it - it DOES look horrible.

Summary: Stop complaining, nothing more can be done about it
Review: I Love Lucy, complete season 1 boxset isn't really a boxset but a compilation of previous DVD's that have already been released. Annoying yes, however, for the people who didn't buy them seperately it's complete happiness, for those diehard fans. I myself bought them seperately, but thankfully Paramount released the last volume 9 for those who did buy them sperately. All you're missing is a box that keeps them inside. Is this the most expensive television show to be released to DVD? no it's not. As an avid DVD buyer of many t.v. shows this one is quite a fair price. Sailor Moon Season 1 and 2 UNCUT(Japanese) boxsets go for almost $200.00. Yes Friends, The Simpsons, Sopranos and more are hugely popular and go at a lower price, but you have to remember that, Sailor Moon, I Love Lucy, and older shows like that were never Digitally Done. So when transferring them to DVD...it more time, work and money. For people complaining that they had to pay shipping costs...you could've easily went to your local Video Store (HMV, Virgin, MusicWorld, Sunrise, BlockBuster, even Wal-Mart) and purchased them there...They're not hard to find. The Simpsons, Friends, and more go for about $50.00 but The Simpsons are on at least 10 times a day, as friends and other newer shows. Be greatful that you're getting them, and stop complaining. A lot people want them but can't have them, and there's always the choice of just waiting for them to come on t.v. to watch. Everything else in this world is taken for granted. Why does a silly DVD boxset make so many upset? I give this Boxset a 5, not for the actual product but for the show itself. I Love Lucy is remembered to this day and is still one of the greatest shows of all time. A lot of hardwork and determination went into this show. So it seems silly not to give it a 5. On the other hand, if you're upset like this others who don't know better. I guess a 1 or 2 star is a good score...Your desicion.

Summary: I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT SO LONG OR PAY SO MUCH!
Review: I am a devoted fan of the "I Love Lucy" show. I just spent a fortune buying each and every one of the 9 DVDs and spent another heap of money on the shipment of those DVDs. How much do they expect us to pay and how long do they expect us to wait for the whole 6 seasons! PARAMOUNT DECISION MAKERS, you should release the show in boxsets and within interval of two months at most! For the amount of money that I am paying, I am just getting an awful service! I want my money back!! The box set costs 25% less and I want that back!!!! ... I want the box too so that I would have a lovely looking collection and not an odd one cuz some are gonna be laying without a box and the rest will be in one!... I want to get the whole 180 episodes NOW! I do not want to wait forever to get them! I want them for less money cuz they have made so much off that show anyway so why do they have to be so greedy! I want to know that my word is heard and that the fans' opinion do matter! .... ANd one last though! ... 4 episodes in each DVD is just silly!!! ... When DVDs were first being promoted every one boasted that it has so much memory and could hold so much! And now all you put is 4 half-an-hour episodes! ... How stupid do you think we are?! ... Give us a break!!!!!

Summary: Expensive, yes. Worth it, yes.
Review: I had skipped buying the seperate Lucy discs, hoping that eventually they would release season sets. I was excited when I found out season 1 was announced, until I saw the price tag... ouch. Well my mom and I found a copy that was a lot more sensible (about $20 cheaper that Amazon) and it was a birthday present. If you just look around, and maybe wait a few months and get a used copy- you can pick up this set at a much cheaper price.

So for 36 episodes of (arguably) the best television show of all time, this is still a steal. The box looks great (though I think in the future they could switch to Thinpak cases and that would save space) We get the episodes uncut, cleaned up and with the original openings, extras and NO COMMERCIALS!

Summary: Get over it and buy the set!
Review: Ok, a lot of you are complaining about the expensive price, the fact that there are only 4 episodes per disc, and various other things, I want to clarify a few things. I will start with the 4 episodes per disc thing. This is done to preserve the quality in sound and video. Keep in mind that along with 4 episodes you are also getting 1, 2, or 3 radio shows, biographies, bloopers, and more. Now if they put 6 episodes per disc then they may have to cram a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th radio show in, bloopers, and more on a disc (in most cases). The quality of the episodes would be compromised in this case. And because there are 36 episodes (not 35 as previously stated), 5 episodes per disc just won't work right. If you want proof in the fact that with 6 episodes + extras would compromise the quality, pick up a whole season of Friends. The first 3 discs have clear picture, while the 4th disc (the one with the extras) has somewhat fuzzy picture. As a final note on this leg of my rant, why would you put all the extras on a sepetare disc?!? That is just stupid. The fun in having the radio shows on a certain disc is to see how the radio episode became a tv episode. Then theres the flubs, I wanna see the clip with the flub then look for it in the episode, without changing discs. As for the price, remember that money is going to many different places on the sells of these dvds, and there are 9 dvds. If you cannot afford to shell out $70-$100 at once, buy the set in installmets. Season 1 was released that way it was so that some people, like children or those with tight budgets, can have some Lucy on dvd. And FYI, the only difference between the seperate dvds and those in the set is that these have a box. My final complaint is who in the world do some of you people think you are? Someone said that each set/seperate dvd should be released every 2 months. Um, hello! Gregg Oppenheimer is working very, VERY hard composing these dvds. If he rushes these you are going to see a lack in material and quality in the cover art. While the hot pink box may not look right with the yellow dvd boxes, get over it! You people need to be glad that I Love Lucy is on dvd. There are tons of fans of other shows out there who would kill to see there favorite show(s) released on dvd! Some of you need to just be greatful for what you have and just get over the fact that this release wasn't exactly as you wanted. And to all of you who are unaware, all future seasons have been said to be released in season sets only (hopefully in slimmer cases or something). ....

Summary: Feeling slapped in the face...and wallet!!
Review: How long must we put up with this corporate greed?!?!? The studio should release the I Love Lucy seasons as box sets and stop this ridiculous, greedy behavior. We do love Lucy and we are sure that she would agree that this is at best...robbery! I hope the studio will hear our voices and show some integrity.

Summary: Such a waste of a great television classic!
Review: First of all, let me just say that the 1 star rating is for these pathetic DVD releases and not the "I Love Lucy" show, which is easily a 5 star show. With that having been said... Like so many anxious fans, I patiently awaited the DVD debut of "I Love Lucy", only to be appalled at the horrendous way that Paramount Home Video chose to distribute the series. With a paltry 4 episodes per disc and carrying a retail price of $15 each, released at 3 to 4 month intervals! At this rate, it will take several years for all 180 episodes of "I Love Lucy" to be made available, by which time DVD's will go the way of BETA and VHS tapes to make room for the next home entertainment format. If future seasons continue to be released in this 4 episodes per disc manner, the average Lucy fan will have spent a staggering $675 (not including tax) to get all 6 seasons! There aren't even a bunch of bonus features either to account for the small number of episodes on each disc. Just some short promos and featurettes that are over as quickly as they began.

I wisely chose to only rent the DVDs and not purchase them individually suspecting that Paramount would probably issue a season 1 boxed set once they had released all of the season 1 DVDs. And sure enough, they did, and carrying a hefty price tag of around $100 in most places! This comes as a slap in the face to those loyal Lucy fans who forked out their hard earned cash for the past year or so as the DVDs were being released individually. Even worse, since the discs have been available separately for a while now, you'd think that Paramount would have heavily discounted the price of this boxed set. Not a chance! Why, you ask? Because the motivation behind this abysmal DVD release was to make as much money as possible while giving as little regard as possible for the consumer. Considering there are only 35 half-hour long episodes, the "I Love Lucy" season 1 boxed set is the highest priced DVD set of its kind currently on the market! As I walked into my local DVD retailer today, I found several of these DVD sets just sitting there. The manager informed me that he'd ordered extra sets thinking that they would fly off the shelves but had only sold two sets all day. I told him that it wasn't surprising... As much as fans around the world still love Lucy, we refuse to be taken advantage of. Hopefully, Paramount Home Video will get this message and offer us fans with DVD sets worthy of the Queen of Comedy!
