Summary: Fan!
Review: L&O is the best Cop TV show I've ever seen! Definetively, Season 1 is a must, and is a milestone in its long story on TV.
I'm desperately looking forward for Season 2' release...

Summary: L&O the Early Years!
Review: L&O is my favorite drama and I would guess if you are thinking about the DVD, you already like the series. You can tell this is early in the show, because there are little things that have since disappeared, like the theme music over shots of the detectives in their car, etc.

A feature on this set that I particularly like is the "play" which is really play all. Pop the DVD in, hit Play and the episodes will just keep running until you tell it to stop, which is great for when I play it in the background while doing other things.

I haven't checked out all the bonus stuff yet, but I got it for the shows, not for the extras.

Summary: One of the best shows ever finally on DVD!
Review: Law & Order now enters its 13th season on NBC. For all those years no one's been able to get it on commercial recording, save the 6-episode VHS set that came out in 1999. But this wasn't satisfactory to represent a show with so much history.

Now you can get the first season of this hit drama on DVD! With its renewal through 2005, you'll probably be getting the "15th Year" on DVD soon. By then Law & Order will be the longest-running police show and second longest-running drama in the history of television.

With season one you get the first appearance of Lorraine Toussaint as the infamous Shambala Green (Subterranean Homeboy Blues), both the CBS original pilot with Roy Thinnes (Everybody's Favorite Bagman) and the NBC pilot with Steven Hill (Prescription for Death), moving episodes (Indifference), and mainly the beginnings of a show that would become one of the most popular dramas of the 1990's.

The original cast features George Dzundza as Sergeant Max Greevey, the amicable but strong lead detective, Chris Noth as Detective Mike Logan, Greevey's liberal and young partner, Dann Florek as Captain Don Cragen, the no-nonsense but humorous boss, Michael Moriarty as Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone, whose dispassionate prosecution has become a trademark, Richard Brooks as A.D.A. Paul Robinette, the passionate black Assistant under Stone, and Steven Hill as D.A. Adam Schiff. Only one phrase can describe Schiff: "You have no case. Make a deal."

For me, this item is at the top of the wish list. If you like L&O, there's no passing this up!

Summary: Looking back at the good ol' days
Review: Law & Order was once a remarkable television series, and this, a collection of its first series immortalizes that fact. It's too bad the series is in such a downfall to a disappointing show aiming for shock value, meanwhile compromising above all intriguing writing. And the mass of Law & Order "sister" shows (SVU, etc) doesn't help the integrity of this once prominant show. The first couple of seasons (including this one) were really outstanding though. Above all the cast in the older Law & Orders were really capturing. Most notably Michael Moriarty as Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone and Steven Hill as D.A. Adam Schiff. So scrap the bad recordings to VHS or catching reruns at unusual hours, grab a copy of this once great series and remember what good television used to be like.

Summary: Law and Order Season One on Dvd
Review: Law and Order first came to my attention from channel-surfing. A handsome green-eyed,dark-haired man riveted my attention who was unknown to me as Christopher Noth who plays Detective Mike Logan. I watched this interesting criminal & legal program with interest and kept watching until the End of Season Five when Chris Noth was asked to leave the show as they wanted a "younger, cheaper actor" to replace him quoting Noth. This is like N.Y.P.D. Blue in it's first year- David Caruso left after the first season and that is the end of my interest in that show. Not everyone will be watching this for the handsome actor who holds the main interest of many of the viewers as this program holds it's own. The first five seasons are the best- not just because of Chris Noth but also because they had not yet started changing cast members like they were daily clothes changes, they had also kept to the first half being law with the second half being order which is a very different approach to television. This is a G-rated show compared to the follow-up shows like NYPD Blue which is very R-Rated in it's language & nudity which isn't what Law & Order is about.Law and Order is more of a less gritty legal documentary rather than a cop show.If you like criminal investigation and legal prosecution this is an excellent dvd set to enjoy. The acting, writing & stories alone are worth viewing. The crimes and the joint police/attorneys process of catching the correct people to prosecute is quite fascinating. After season 1, one just wants Season 2,Season 3,Season 4, Season 5.The present day Law & Order is not worth watching unless you don't mind that it is a completely different program than when it first began. This first season is a glimpse of why it was a great show and why all things end for a reason.

Summary: A Fledgling Hit
Review: Law and Order is my favorite show, my mother's too. This is the review of the 1st Season. I can only give it 4 stars (4 1/2, to be fair) because I haven't watched all of them yet. I only saw them here and there on A&E. This is not my favorite season, but it is still excellent and absorbing television. The stories are the best in the earlier seasons because they are the gritiest, more urban and individual based crimes (later it seems it's all big buissness cover ups). The acting averages from good to great. Michale Moritarty's stately Ben Stone is the single absolutly most outstanding charactor on the show. If NBC is listening, I think they should somehow have Stone and his replacement McCoy work together or (even better) against each other. Anyway, The main weakness is George Dzundza's Max Greevy. I hope to God I never have to work with someone like him. I am looking forward to season 2 with my favorite cop, Paul Sorvino's Detective Sargeant Phil Ceretta.

Summary: Not as good as SVU.
Review: Law and Order was a decent series until it fell apart with ridiculous twists and turns and a cast that grew less and less enthusiastic as the seasons went on. I don't know about you, but I prefer SVU over this, which may have had just as many ludicrous twists, but was more gripping and plausible.

Summary: Law and Order, Season One...
Review: Law and Order, Season One is perfect for all of the obsessed Law and Order fans! It takes you back to the gritty begining of a show that has become such a phenomenon! For true Law and Order fans, there is no better way to enjoy watching your favorite early episodes than on this DVD. However, in a way it is almost sad to see all of the old characters that are no longer on the show, but it is sure nice to see them again! I would recomend getting the first and soon to be released second season of Law and Order for any real fan you know. They will love it!
