Summary: How could you not want MORE MORE MORE?
Review: This set makes an interesting collection because you get to see the show SEX AND THE CITY develop it's own style over the first season. The first couple of episodes were directed by Susan Siedelman (of DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN fame). Her style was very documentary -- characters spoke to the screen as if being interviewed, and the editing was a little more choppy. Also, for the first 6 or 7 episodes the shows are centered around Candace Bushnell's book of the same name. Infact, a lot of the dialogue is even lifted VERBATIM from the printed version. But then something interesting happens...the show develops a stride all its own. The production values get lusher, the characters get deeper, and the show becomes what is today -- a glossy and smart half hour about characters who are looking to connect with the opposite sex. You go from high comedy (the modelizers and "having sex like men") to touching drama and tragedy (Carrie's failed attempts to get Big to open up to her). Wonderful stuff! You need to own this collection, because revisiting the shows is an absolute joy!

Summary: Wowee! Sexy ladies and sophisticated humor!
Review: I'm a law student at GWU (go big blue!) and all my friends and I gather every Sunday to watch Sex and the City. It's without a doubt the funniest and most intelligent show ever written! Sarah Jessica Parker is the most unassuming and unaware sex symbol ever, and that just makes her even more appealing! So coy! Petite and beautiful blonde Kim Catrall is the cat's meow, and the other two women round up a beautiful, talented cast. But it's the writing---and what writing! ---that keeps me coming back. Boy, have I learned a lesson or two about the finer sex! This Cliffe brother of Clinton NJ is hooked by their claws, and is begging for more!

Summary: Sex and the City
Review: Sex and the City is a great television series. The show's wit, glamour and humor is incredible. I have been watching the show since its very beginning, and I am very happy that I finally have The Complete First Season.

Sarah Jessica Parker is outstanding in her role of Carrie; she's a hilarious narrator. I love Kim Cattrall's portrayal of Samantha; she's, without a doubt, the show's scene stealer. I also enjoy Miranda's (Cynthia Nixon) sarcastic humor. Kristin Davis is great as Charlotte -- the romantic one of the three. You know, I think I speak for everyone when I say that Chris North's portrayal of Mr. Big is superb. North and Parker have great chemistry.

I love this DVD collection, and my only hope is that there will be a Complete Second Season out soon! A must-have!

Summary: It's Not Only a Chick Show
Review: When I first heard about Sex in the City, I thought it was another of the "Chick Shows" that men should run from. I was expecting the demographics were going to be the 35 year old, twice divorced, man hating women of the world. But after the first episode, I haven't missed the show once since (I do have a life, and a VCR).

My wife enjoys the show because of the women be empowered and educated. I like the show because they say things that men always want to know. Plus the four ladies aren't hard on the eyes. If you watch this show and don't laugh out loud at some point, go to PBS and watch the Antique Roadshow.

Summary: Sex as REAL as it REALLY is
Review: I'd only caught 2 previous episodes before purchasing the DVD and find I can't stop watching it! Every time I sit down, I can't watch less than 3 episodes - just can't get enough! Every time I watch it, it's hilariously funny! The girls look hot, and talk hot, but they really bring up real-life dilemmas, say things I've actually said, and/or (sorry to say) heard before (Skipper to Miranda "I hope you find what you're looking for!") - I can't say enough - it's hilarious! The occasional city views are spectacular.

Summary: Chic and funny
Review: Okay, perhaps it isn't completely realistic for a woman to immediately break up with a great guy just because she learns he has horrendous taste in china patterns. But realism isn't the main point of "Sex and the City". The show is meant to be chic and funny, and here it succeeds with flying colors. And though realism may not be its strong suit (do most people really go through THAT many boyfriends and girlfriends in the space of a few months?) there IS undeniable truth in many of the situations the characters find themselves in, and in the wry observations the sexes make about each other. Love the music and opening credits of the show, too-- VERY hip and trendy, which is exactly as it should be! The DVD set is a great bargain: almost six hours of entertaining programming, a few modest extras (excellent organization and presentation of all the episodes' promo spots, by the way), and a package for which some agency or person should win a design award for both its look and practicality, and all for about thirty bucks. Bring on season two! And then maybe... The Sopranos? Please?
