Summary: Different, and it works
Review: For the reviewer who wants to see more character development and "real" dilemnas, maybe the reason this show is so popular is that it *doesn't* have those things. Not everybody wants to sit down and watch some character's horrible and conflicted life. Sometimes people like to escape and just enjoy a world where the good guys are good, a character's problems are usually not that serious, and the good guys always get their man. There's plenty of other shows on TV that delve into people's personal lives and have the main characters get shot, beat up, develop drug and alcohol habits, get in a car crash, lie, cheat, steal, get fired, get kidnapped and get sued, all in a single season. There's nothing wrong with shows like that, and I watch a few of them on occasion. However, to imply that those type of shows are the only good ones, and that people watching CSI are somehow fools for liking a show that doesn't take itself and its characters as seriously, is just silly.

When CSI comes on, I know I can bring on the popcorn and sit back for a fun hour assured in the knowledge that however bad a crime may be, my favorite team will crack the case by the time it's over.

Summary: could use a good writer
Review: The popularity of this show's getting on my nerves. I see amazon reviewers of it giving it five stars, and I recently heard it's been nominated for a golden globe award. As an article in American Cinematographer stated; "...it's not so much a whodunit but a howdunit.", and that is essentially what's wrong with it. You can usually guess who's guilty within ten minutes of watching the show, which makes watching the rest of it feel like a chore, wading through it all just to be confirmed that your guess was right. Not very rewarding is it?

And the characters are bland, lifeless, perfect, and arrogant. They're always usually right, and there's no development or growth in them whatsoever. Their dilemmas are too convenient. Just for an example, an episode where the lead detective woman has trouble turning in a police officer who planted evidence and arrested the wrong man. Well, it's obvious what's the right thing to do, turn him in. Why? Because the real culprit's still out there. And guess what she did? She turned him in. This episode could have been more interesting in a lot of ways, like, making the innocence of the police officer's victim not so blatant. Or her simply looking the other way just this one time and then having to live with it. Then it could be followed on with more instances of the officer breaking more laws, until she couldn't help but arrest him in the end after all. Wouldn't that have been a much better plot line? Something gradual? Something that's not simple, easy, and short? Something with actual character growth? But simple, the story just had to be, and the episode? Bland and uninteresting.

Then, in every case, there's simply too much evidence. A nail, human fluid stains, pieces of flesh, and pools blood everywhere. Every conclusion the detectives make just have to be absolute, and the law always works, it's unquestionable. Would it have been wrong for the detectives to at least commit mistakes some of the time? And the plots, simple journeys from point a to point b, with very little diversion from the objective, from the arrest of the suspect. Nothing to hinder or complicate their goals, well except for maybe that rain episode.

So with all this, you can see the show for what it really is, something used to cash in the popularity of the director and his gimmicks. But what the show really could have used were inspired writers and a little more creativity.

Summary: CSI series 1 part 1
Review: Over here in the UK CSI is a relatively recent addition to our viewing schedules and what a welcome addition it is - having tuned in religiously every saturday night to catch series 2 I was very pleased to purchase the first half of series 1 on DVD. The acting and plots are superb and the direction is innovative and enthralling. I love the fact that unlike some other offerings this show concentrates on each plot without bowing to the temptation to delve deep into the characters personal lives. We get enough to recognise them as people but not so much that we are bogged down in their personal demons and problems. Overall a superb series.

Summary: Off To a Great Start
Review: Although i just started watching CSI around the episode "I-15 Murders" it's my favorite show ever. I basically started watching it because my grandparents would tell me how cool and interesting the show is. I watched the episode i mentioned above and was just blown away the special effects especially for a show that just started were incredible.Over time watching this show i really liked the characters of Nick and Sara (George Eads, Jorja Fox)beacuse first of all Nick is soo good looking and really dedicated to what he does and Sara is a tough chick and i love that when a show has a tough female character. My favorite episodes are "Unfriendly Skies" and "Sex, Lies and Larve"basically because i feel they are great Sara episodes and show what CSI is all about.Sometimes the first episodes aren't that great when a show starts off but CSI's doesn't fail to be anything but excelent. Even if you've just heard about CSI and never watched and episode it's worth buying at any price the show is just that great.

Summary: The best show on TV, period.
Review: "Whooooo are yo-ou o-ou?" The best theme song of any show on TV is topped only by the actual quality of the show. Season 1 is where it all started, and doesn't miss a beat in terms of show or acting quality. Every episode of this show has me glued to the screen, and it doesn't stop here either (see season 2,3,4, and beyond).

This show remains one of the top couple shows in the ratings, and has brought about a huge new interest in forensic science. Colleges across the country are starting new criminal science programs or increasing their existing ones. This show is not only incredibly interesting, but is also making an actual difference in the world. There are few shoes on TV today that can say that.

William Petersen's acting is simply brilliant as Gil Grissim, and with marvolous support from actors and actresses like Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows), George Eads (Nick Stokes), Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown), Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle), Paul Guilfoyle (Captain Jim Brass), and Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders), the show can't (and doesn't in any way) miss. Do yourself a huge favor and pick it up today. It's a little pricey, but it's really worth every cent.

Summary: AWESOME SHOW!
Review: I could never get enough of the crime TV show "Crime Scene Investigation". It literally breaks new ground and shows a much more detailed insight into crime scene forensics and a much more detailed look at the way investigations but at the same time is a highly entertaining show.

The cast is phenomonal with William Peterson being the main actor is the perfect choice as Gil Grissom. Others include Jorja Fox as Sara, Marg Helgenberger as the former dancer Catherine Willows, Gary Dourdan as Warrick, and Goerge Eads as Nick Stokes.

These episodes in the first season are really great and Unfriendly Skies is one of my favorite episodes throughout the series.

Highly recommended.

Summary: Great show, but....
Review: Although CSI is definitely one of the best shows on television, this dvd is a little bit of a letdown. It's bare bones as far as extras go (which is not taking advantage of the dvd format as far as I'm concerned). There's no subtitles (I'm not deaf, but what if I was?). The price is almost twice as much as any other season of a network television show (most others range from $40-$50). I still think it's a great show, but they could've done a better job. If you really wanna see it, rent it. UPDATE: DO NOT BUY THIS. They are re-releasing this in the coming months with extras and in anamorphic widescreen format (like they did with all the other releases) so SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy the set they should've released to begin with.

Summary: Who Are You? A CSI Lover, I bet!
Review: When this show debuted in September 2000, everyone was blown away. What ER had done for hospitals, CSI did for crime labs. Ironically, when I viewed my first episode, I had a great interest in forensic science. The re-enactments are top of the line, downright amazing with unforgettable visual effects and gore. Although ER still continues to enjoy ratings success, THE show you must see is CSI.

The DVD is fantastic, with wonderful digital picture and sound. Although there aren't many special features, that's fine. The heart and soul of this DVD set are the episodes themselves. I recommend getting this over the two "Early Cases" DVD sets. It's more complete. If you have ever taken an interest in forensics, or watched an episode of CSI, this is a must-buy.

Summary: Best decision yet, for a boxed set purchase!
Review: I am such a huge fan of CSI, that when this First Season Boxed Set arrived around December 27th, I watched nothing but these DVDs daily, until I had to return to work on Monday, January 3rd.
On New Year's Eve I sat down at my 'puter and ordered the "Second Season", and it arrived about a week later. I am able to watch these shows over and over again, and I have never done that with any other TV show. Well, maybe with the exception of one famous television hit, "I Love Lucy"; I can watch those reruns continuously as well. Anyone who loves crime drama, and is familiar with CSI's graphic details of C.O.D. (cause of death) will surely enjoy this first season. It gives good background on the characters, how they interact and why they interact the way they do. Grissom is too cool for words as is Sara, (I really like the whole cast...) but I think those two cast members are my favorites though.
