Rating: Summary: Police Academy - The Complete Collection Review: A rag-tag group of individuals, for different reasons, join together to help fight crime! Where could it go wrong? A movie so popular, that it spawned 6 sequels, with a new one on the way, making a total of 8 in the near future. Regardless of people's opinions on the quality of later films, the first few remain classics in most people's hearts. Well, at least mine.
Police Academy: 20th Anniversary Box set features all seven films, in widescreen format except for 3 of them. Each disc contains a 6 to 10 minute featurette with original cast members shedding light on some of their favorite scenes.
1. Police Academy
The film that brought audiences to their knees with laughter, Police Academy was one of the pioneers of 80's comedy. After several attempts at trying to make it on the outside, Steve Gutenberg as Carey Mahoney is given the choice of facing jail time or doing something with his life and becoming a police cadet as a favor from one of his parent's friends. Carey soon discovers that he is not unlike his odd group of counterparts, including Larvell Jones, played by stand-up comedian Michael Winslow, a human microphone, the late David Graf as Eugene Tackleberry, a life-time NRA member if there ever was one, and former NFL star, Bubba Smith as Moses Hightower, a man whos passion to fight crime is just as much as his penchant for flowers. 1st best out of 7.
2. Police Academy: Their First Assignment
The majority of the previous film's stars come back for the sequel, but the person who truly steals the show is Bobcat Goldwaith's Zed, a quintessential 80's hardrocking thug, who just happens to love Family Affairs and is a vegetarian. Hey, at least he has morals. Also, SNL allum Tim Kazurinsky is the Zed's polar opposite in the role of Sweetchuck. 2nd best out of 7.
3. Police Academy 3: Back in Training
Sadly, the role that the series was previously on beins it decline with the third installment as we loose G.W. Bailey's excellent character, Lieu. Harris. Art Metrano is instead brought in as a replacement as Cmndt. Mauser, but fails to equal the same side-splitting laughs. The saving grace in this film is Lance Kinsey's Capt. Proctor, a loveable, well-meaning suck-up/lackey to Mauser. Set in a different location, the third film has it's moments, but can not compare to the previous installments. 5th best out of 7.
Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol
When budgets have become next to none, and crime is at it's top, what other choice does the city have but to ask of it's citizens to become volunteer policemen? Now in their third movie, Zed and Sweetchuck once again steal the show. With several great aerial stunts, breakthrough roles from Tony Hawk and David Spade, the fourth movie definately makes up for the 3rd film. 3rd best out of 7
Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach
By the fifth film, the series had lost most of it's original cast, but it desperatly tried to revive the series with new cast members and new locations. Probably the most kid friendly of the whole series, filled with more oddball/dumb humor, it easily out ranks #3 as the worst yet. 6th best out of 7.
Police Academy 6: City Under Siege
Once again, with a lose of the majority of original characters, times are hard for the series, but City Under Siege tries it's best to do what it can with what it has. One of the more memorable and funny in the series, #6 delivers with some great laughs, but fails to match the previous movie's sucess and ranks 4th out of 7.
Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow
With only 5 of the original cast members left, for some odd reason the officers are picked to go to Moscow to help stop an evil Russian sterotypical character played by Ron Perlman. Perlman's character has created
Rating: Summary: Some Folks Just Don't Get It... Review: Althou this series is truely very unbelivably silly, it is still one of the best series out there. I know I wrote a review on this already, but I didn't say much in it, so I'm writing a second review.
Rating: Summary: Good Comedy Series Review: Althou this series is truely very unbelivably silly, it is still one of the best series out there. I know I wrote a review on this already, but I didn't say much in it, so I'm writing a second review.
Rating: Summary: Inaccurate Review: As a former academy dropout myself, it's a little hard to watch these films and laugh. They're simply so inaccurate as to be incredibly annoying. I mean, if our actual academies were anything like this, what would our law enforcement look like? Whew! It may be funny to laugh at, but I say let's all be thankful that these are just films, right?
Rating: Summary: MONO SOUND? Review: Don't by this product! Somebody at Warner hit the wrong button when copying these movies to dvd. All movies, but 1, have been recorded in Mono(1 channel). I have a Bose system, and all I get from these movies is the center channel. Am I crazy, or did everybody writing these "great" reviews watch the movies with no sound?
Rating: Summary: The Police Academy Series Comes To DVD At Last!! Review: Finally, after years of just having a Fullframe version of the first film available, the entire series of Police Academy movies have at last made their way onto DVD, in a nice little boxset collection. All films are finally available in Widescreen for the very first time ever! But like previous Warner Bros Boxset collections, the first film is the only one to receive the "Special Edition" treatment. Even so, it's great to finally have this string of hilarious films available on DVD at last. So break out the popcorn and laugh out loud hysterically with Steve Guttenberg and the rest of the Police Academy cast members. Order this collection NOW!!Police Academy : still just as funny as ever! "Bunky. Bunky. How many times do I have to tell you, huh? The Liter Box! The Liter Box!"
Rating: Summary: Great Price for all 7 Review: I hope they release this in Australia soon. A Question, would somebody please tell me, does this box set come with 7 individual discs of the movies? Or are there flip side discs? or whatever
Rating: Summary: If You Enjoy To Laugh Then I Recommend This Boxset! Review: I love the Police Academy movies and think the first 4 movies are hilarious. Sorry Leonard, but Who cares how accurate this movie is about life at a police academy? It's a comedy and is meant to be a funny look at police academy life and not a serious doccumentary account of an actual police academy! I very highly recommend the Police Academy series to people who love silly comedy movies!
Rating: Summary: Someone Goofed With The Aspect Ratios! Review: I love the Police Academy movies and think they are hilarious, especially the first 4 movies! I see that a reviewer is complaining that this movie is not accurate into what really goes on at a police academy, but Who cares how accurate this movie is about life at a police academy? It's a comedy and is meant to be a funny look at police academy life and not a serious doccumentary account of an actual police academy! If you want a serious account of life in a police academy I suggest you watch The Learning or Discovery Channels as they sometimes have doccumentaries about things like that! Only complaint about this boxset is the fact that some of the movies are widescreen and others are fullscreen instead of them all being presented in the same aspect ratio. Bizarre! I would have preferred all of the movies in widescreen.
Rating: Summary: Mono? Review: I was watching Police academy 6 from this box set today and all the audio is coming out of the center channel. After a quick check of my cables and other DVDS it appears they mixed this movie down to one channel. Oh well at least *THIS* one is in widescreen. As someone else said, I've never seen a box set with this many flaws but if you're a fan of Police academy what other choice do you have?
