Angel - Season One

Summary: Whoops I forgot
Review: I forgot one of the best episodes in the first season that I haven't seen anyone mention: Blind Date. This one goes inside the Wolfram & Hart law firm and shows it from evil lawyer Lindsay's point of view. Maybe you have to be a lawyer to get it but the scenes with Lindsay and his boss are priceless. Also, you can't beat Angel pretending to fall asleep when Lindsay tells him his life story saying, "Did you get to part when you were evil?"

Summary: Excellent but a bit inconsistent
Review: Many of the other reviews hit the basics. Angel is a classic character because of his flaws. As a man before becoming a vampire, he was a lout and layabout. As a vampire he was one of the most viscious. As a vampire with a soul, he is a brooding, cautious reluctant hero. The series is about his continued attempts for redemption including his attempt to become more human. The show is more dramatic than Buffy and bigger in a way. I think 5 by 5 and Sanctuary (the two parter with Faith are some of the best shows on network television. There are other exceptional shows. As with all of the Buffy and Angel, you wish there were better extras given with the DVDs and also there are some not so good shows. However, who could not love a show where (in Sense and Sensitivity) Angel says (under the influence of a magical sensitivity spell) "You could be a rainbow and not a "painbow."

Summary: A very strong start
Review: It's weird the day I was thinking about how I wish Glenn Quinn (Doyle) was still on Angel I found out he died. Watching the first 9 episodes before his charcater was killed off, I found them a lot of fun. After Doyle died I think the show lost a big part of it's soul, don't get me wrong the show is still good but...not as good. Doyle was one entertaining character and Glenn Quinn played him great and replacing him with Wesley didn't do much for me. I had to get used that. Wesley grew on me eventually though. Anyway Angel is a good show, I didn't get into it much when it first started but now that I own this season I realize that I actually like it more than Buffy. Watching the 4th season now I realize that it has a lot more steam left in it than Buffy does too. I wouldn't mind seeing Angel on for a few more seasons if the WB doesn't drop it after the 4th. It's a fun show, it isn't full of too much mushy drama like Buffy has been like for the last 2 1/2 seasons. It's actually full of tons of action and cool bad guys, the first season was especially. It's a shame that the WB throws around it's time slot because it's a very good show, the best they have on next to Smallville. They give their Dawson Creek type shows way too much attention when it's Buffy that gave the WB life in the first place. Anyway Angel season one is a solid first season. It has strong guest appearences by Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), James Marsters (Spike), Seth Green (Oz) and the sexy Eliza Dusku as Faith. I only wish Glenn Quinn was still with us so they could bring him back as Doyle, he's missed big time. R.I.P. Glenn Quinn.

Summary: To Live and Die in L..A.
Review: It was really nice to go back and watch these early episodes of Angel. You forget how much the show has changed over the last few years. Of course, the producers have included plenty of dvd extras.
And it's great to have them all at instant access with no commercials at dvd quality.

Summary: Angel is among us!
Review: "Angel" is, as you probably already know, a spin off of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". At the end of Buffy season 3, Buffy's long suffering boyfriend, the good vampire Angel, left Sunnydale and went to L.A. There he imeadiatly hooked up with the half demon, half human Doyle, who was blessed (or cursed) with visions of people in troble, supplied by the Powers That Be (who are the beings in charge of both Angel and Buffy's destiny). He also meets "Buffy" alumni Cordelia Chase, now a struggling actress. After the selfless sacrifice of Doyle, another "Buffy" former cast member joins Angel Investigations, former Watcher Wesley Wendon Pryce. And Angel is going to need all the help he can get. He imeadiatly angers the resident bad guys, the law firm Wolfram & Hart, who seems to represent all the evil in the universe.
This is a great show. It has everything that "Buffy" has ("hipper than thou" California speak, and charactors with great depth that you care about imeadiatly) and a much darker side (it seems that Angelus, Angel's evil half, is always right around the corner; and Angel's victories seem to come at such a high cost as to make them almost hollow). If there was a bad point (and I didn't mind so much, but I heard some people didn't like it) it was the crossovers with "Buffy" cast members. "Buffy" werewolf Seth Green (who is always welcome if you ask me) comes in briefly, and Buffy herself a few times (I thought the last show with her was great closure for Angel). I really liked rouge slayer Faith coming into town to assasinate Angel, that was cool.
If I had to pick a high point (and there are so many this season) I would say that watching Angel dance the Funky Chicken was absolutly the funniest thing I ever saw.
This is great for "Angel" fans, and even "Buffy" fans will enjoy it (assuming most of them are girls who are teenaged or in their early twenties, they'll love David Boreanaz going shirtless a lot). There is also eye candy for the men (Charisma Carpenter is perticularly hot this season).
One last note; I like that there is now two open prophasies on Angel; one says he will eventually attone for his sins as Angelus and become human once again, and another says that one of his vampire children will kill him. I can not wait to see which one comes true. Go Joss Whedon!! Keep up the good work.

Review: I was a latecomer to the Buffy television series,I didnt jump on board until a friend let me borrow the first season on DVD.I quickly became a die-hard fan and bought the second and third seasons.When I heard the first season of Angel was coming out I decided to give it a try.I liked David Boreanez work on the Buffy series and hoped for great things from him on Angel.
Well I wasnt disappointed I liked every episode in the first season.Cordelia came into her own on Angel and Doyle the half demon was one of my favorite characters until his untimely demise half way through the first season.For me the show reminds me of two old favorites of mine,sort of a cross between Forever Knight and The Equalizer.I still dont watch the show on TV,I prefer instead to have the complete seaons to watch all at once.You get a much better feel for the complete story that way and Angel is definetely one of my favorite shows.Joss Whedon is a genius and two prime examples of this is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.For anyone who hasnt discovered these two fantastic shows,now is a great time to jump on board and get the seasons on DVD.You are missing two shows with an atmosphere all their own.

Review: Applause, Applause Joss Whedon once again wows me with his amazing talent to make scarry, funny, and entertaining television. This spin off series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer almost outshines the original. Angel is a more adult, serious show that still has the wit and hummor that makes Buffy the Vampire Slayer so great. Season One of Angel follows the title character (Angel) from Sunnydale to L.A. looking for redemption quickily realizing that he can't do it alone he is joined with a memorable cast of characters (including Cordilia Chase and a much more manly Wesley Wyndam-Price) to save L.A. from the not so freindly demons and the more evil lawfirm Wolfram & Hart. This is a WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL show!!! If you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you will love Angel.
