Summary: Great HBO series!
Review: Yes, I know, it's not out yet. I sure hope they release this on DVD soon. What a series. Great acting. Great photography. Very true to the book by Stephen Ambrose. What a great tribute to the hero's of World War II, especially the 101'st Airborne. I've got my name in for notification when this is released. I'll be first in line.

Summary: Thank you HBO
Review: Thank you HBO for a superb series depicting the lives of the men of Easy Company. I was enthralled by Band of Brothers and it made me realise what sacrifices were made and what those sacrifices were for. Please release the series on DVD!

Review: I saw the miniseries twice and think it once of the best movies/series on WWII. Very effective mix of directors and actors...

Summary: Band of Brothers Then and Now
Review: This mini series was incredible. Those men fought so Pearl Harbor would never happen again much like our men fight today so 9-11-01 will never happen again. This mini series needs to be put out on DVD and VHS so we can be reminded again and again how important and heroic these men were and are!!!!

Summary: The Best!!!!!!!!1
Review: I found out about the tv series Band of Brothers on the side of a bus. It said that it was going to be directed by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. I said to myself that it must be good. I watched the first episode. It was the best movie tv series. The battle scenes were totally awesome.
The movie started off at an army training camp. There you become familiar with the characters. I don't wanna give to much of the story away, so i'll say that after the camp, the go to Normandy. Thats D-Day. Thats when the Americans really start to fight.
If you liked movies like Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, A bridge to far, or really any kind of war movie, trust me, you'll love this movie. I strongly recommend you buy it on DVD once it comes out. I'm a good movie critic, I know good movies from bad ones.

Summary: A Superb Tribute to WWII Veterans
Review: Tom Hanks has once again shown the love and respect that he has for the millions of Americans who put their lives on hold while they traveled around the world to defeat perhaps the greatest evil in recent history. The story of Easy Company of the 506th of the 101st is perhaps the best and most compelling story that I have ever seen. As you follow these men from their training to D-Day and on through the end of the war, you come to care about them deeply as individuals and you begin to see a pale shadow of the horrors and suffering that they endured to make the world a better and safer place. As you revisit these men through the present day interviews, you gain even more respect for their quiet modesty and enduring humanity. By the end of this series, I was never more thankful that I never had to personally go to war but in a way I was, and still am, quite envious of the bond that these men still share half a century later with their brothers. We owe these men a debt of gratitude that we can never repay.

Summary: Very well done, but sometimes too elitist.
Review: Like virtually everyone else here, I thought the HBO miniseries, "Band of Brothers," to be a terrifically acted, filmed, directed, and produced piece of work. The series follows the men of E Co./1st Bn./506 PIR/101st Airborne Division from its stateside training days to England, Normandy, back to England, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, and Austria. Every episode focuses on one or two men from the company. An example would be episode four which focuses on Sgt. "Bull" Randelman, a squad leader, and the 101st's fight for "Hell's Highway" during Operation Market Garden. I taped this series and it is fun to watch an early episode and see a character, who will be the focus of a later episode, having one line or just being part of crowd shots such as Medic Roe and Pvt Webster.

The entire series is very well done, but it does show some of the same flaws which mar its source- historian Stephen Ambrose's book. I'm not an Ambrose fan. His research methods are shoddy and he too often makes completely unsupportable proclaimations. Ambrose's hands are all over the extremely insulting and factually untrue assertation, which is made in two episodes, that no one in the 101st has ever stated that they needed to be relieved during the siege of Bastogne. (On December 26th, 1944 when the 4th Armored Division broke through the German lines to reach Bastogne, Gen. McAuliffe, acting commander of the 101st, came down to the lines and greeted them: "I am mighty glad to see you!") Not only is that proclaimation made by the "Band of Brothers" untrue, but it's also extremely insulting to the men of the 3rd Army who fought and died to breakthrough to the 101st and the various other units entrapped in Bastogne which the series also slights by not even mentioning. I admire "Band of Brothers'" desire to pay tribute to the veterans of the valiant 101st Airborne, but to insult the sacrifices of other units was unnecessary and cruel.

Summary: An intimate account of WW II
Review: I just had the privilege do watch the "Band of Brothers" miniseries on the Swiss French television in the last weeks and I was more than impressed by the outstandind quality of the series.

Unlike other war movies relating just a special event or battle (Normandy, Operation Market Garden, etc.), this series takes us through the different episodes encountered by the Easy company starting with the landing in Normandy until the occupation of Austria, always through the perspective of the soldiers and their officers. Like the soldier, the spectator does not really get the bigger picture of this wordwide conflict, except bribes of information made available to the soldiers during the series.

The quality of the actors is remarkable. They are extremely credible in their roles as if this series was a live documentary.

The weakest episode of all 10 is without doubt the first one, David Schwimmer being a miscast for the role of the sadistic captain Sobel... I dont know, but when I see Schwimmer, I have always "Friends" in mind ;-)

Anyway, I can only recommend that series to anyone who wants an honest insight in what the war was like from the soldier's perspective.

Summary: Take the time to say "Thank You".
Review: I am often stunned and disheartened by many in this world who seem to have a lack of understanding or knowledge of our nations history, particularly when our lives, our very freedoms are owed to ordinary men, many who are still with us today. Often I find people, unfortunately many my age, who are not even aware of just what our fathers and grandfathers did in service to our country and to the world. No one, in my opinion (certainly no one in the world of cinema) has captured the realism and horror of this war like Spielberg. In the days when Hollywood would have us riding a high of adrenaline in some grotesquely unrealistic "war" movie, Spielberg and Hanks have shown us the ugly face of war for what it was and what it is. This was a true story, these were real people, and every breathing American should be strapped down into a chair and be forced to watch this series, if necessary with their eyes propped open with toothpicks. And if you meet a vet from this war, please take the time to say "thank you", for you owe your very life and freedom to soldiers like this.

Summary: A Very Important Contribution to History
Review: I am a young adult and truthfully knew little to nothing about World War II. I didn't really have an appreciation (like the rest of my generation) of the sacrafices that were made in the war. This miniseries really taught me a lot. These men didn't necessarily go to war becuase they wanted to but because it was their duty to. The cinematography, superb acting, and haunting score all support this wonerful production. This miniseries follows Easy Company throughout the entire war, and I think that is one reason that it is so powerful. This isn't a general overview of WWII instead it is a more personal and honest story of a small group of men and their experiences. Some say that the miniseries only portrays Americans in a positive light. This is simply not true. One of the most touching moments comes in Episode 2 when an Easy Company soldier happens to meet a German prisoner of war who comes from his own hometown in Oregon. Episode #6 was my personal favorite and I think the most touching. After watching the series i also read the book which gives you a better understanding and fills in any missing info. I think that this is something that everyone regardless of age or nationality should see. These men don't want to be presented as heroes, and I think the production does a good job of not idolizing or romanticizing these men. It paints an honest picture of the horrors of war. It is a testament to the men of Easy Company thier courage and loss.
