Summary: The great American saga
Review: Two of the greatest American films ever made and a third that is pretty good but suffers from the comparison to its predecessors. The extras are plentiful and add to the appreciation of these fine films. Definitely worth the purchase price and consideration for any film collection.

Summary: One of the greatest films ever..
Review: I only gave it a 4 star rating because "The Godfather III" was the worst that I had ever seen. =*( Other than that, the DVD's were marvelously remastered. I was suprised to see that some individuals who had reviewed this gave it poor ratings. I suggest that they purchase a new DVD player, for the picture quality was fantastic on mine.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: After waiting forever for the DVD version, I was angry about the poor visual quality of the film. Aside from the constant grainy yellow look, much of the film is in darkness making it impossible to see the faces of the actors. I'm shocked there would be such little attention to the visual transfer. The audio is fine but I didn't find any of the deleted scenes mentioned making this a forgettable collection. The Sopranos does a far better job. Rent the DVD version prior to buying if you're serious about spending this kind of money, and get a heads up about what to expect. If you're smart, you'll save your money and just get the collection on video -- the visual quality exceeds the DVD version.

Review: tHE VERY BEST MOVIE TO LEARN PRINCIPLES OF LIFE.

Summary: An American epic
Review: Do we really need one more person saying that the Godfather series represents a towering achievement in American film? This box set is an exceptional release. "Part II" is my personal favorite, but "Part I" is not far behind. "Part III," despite some ludicrous hit scenes and Sofia Coppola's atrocious acting, is not as bad as many have said (it has a terrific finale). The extra features are fantastic! Coppola's commentary is compelling, revealing many fascinating details about the making of the films, the people involved, and his own battles with the studio. It may be expensive, but the sheer rewatchability of these films and the plethora of extras promise many hours of viewing pleasure.

Summary: The best american film saga ever BUT A HORRIBLE DVD
Review: The godfather trilogy remains in the opinion of many to be greatest american film saga ever made and the first film in the series is in the top 10 list of critics around the world for best film of the 20th century. With all the awards and accolades these films have received it disappointed me that paramount would make such a bad DVD box set. The picture quality on these discs are very bad, The first thing you will notice when you watch these discs is that the picture is very grainy and has allot of "dot crawl" in and around objects on the screen This is usually caused by To much compressed information on the disc, If that's the case with the 3 hour long godfather then explain "Gladiator" also another very long movie but looks fantastic and has a Dts 5.1 soundtrack as well as a DD 5.1 which would take up allot of information on a dvd disc, I'm one of a few who still own a Laserdisc player and have the godfather trilogy on LD and for a 7 year old THX box set The picture quality far surpasses this dvd box set, So the only thing i can think off that would explain the bad picture quality is a transfer strait off of a video source becuase there's no reason for these DVD's to look so bad. The Dolby 5.1 Sound is very good But dialog can sound a little echoy but other then that it sounds pretty good but still not nearly as good as the THX sound of the 1995 Laserdisc release. The special features disc is about the only thing I like in this DVD set you get to see all the deleted scenes from all 3 films plus trailers and lots of other neat stuff, My only complaint with the deleted scenes Is why they were not left in the movie these scenes are really good and add depth to the charactors and story line and in my opinon should have been put back into the 3 films. Overall I don't think this DVD box set is worth the high price tag because of the poor effort that paramount put into remastering the three films the Special features are a great but i did'nt buy this box set for the features, And if you still own the THX laserdisc box set hold on to it it's still the best way to watch the the trilogy. The godfather will remain on the top of my top 10 list for a long time i only hope that paramount will release a High quality THX version of the godfather on DVD in the future till then i will keep my good old Laserdisc set right where it's been for the past 7 years, And as for my DVD box set?

Summary: Wonderful! WOW
Review: Being a lifelong Godfather fan, it was only a matter of time before I got this. No need to review the movies themselves. Godfather I is great, Godfather II is outstanding (my personal favorite) and Godfather III, although not on the same level (what is) was very well done and it grew on me.

The packaging of the DVD set itself is stunning. The movies of course are very clear and the music is flawless. Although not overwhelming in features like 5 trailors of each movie, what makes the set in my opinion is the audio commentary that is available by Coppola.

Coppola does audio commentary for all 3 films and it was so interesting that I couldn't turn it off. Every scene he tells you something. The actors and how the scene went, who was drunk, what mistake he made, who's in the background, directing tips, everything! I have seen Part I and Part II at least (no kidding) 30-40 times each and Part III 5 times in my life. Some sick Godfather fans out there can probably match or top that.

Summary: An offer I can definitely refuse
Review: I love "The Godfather." One of my favorite movies. "Godfather Part 2" was pretty good, but too confusing to be great. "Part 3" (...). To all those people who had to get a second mortgage to buy this ridiculous boxed set when all you really wanted was Part One, all I can say is get a life.

Summary: Reason I Bought A DVD Player
Review: I originally bought this fantastic DVD collection to watch over my friends house over Thanksgiving Break, because I had been meaning to get the Godfather for the longest time and when this collection came out, I just couldn't resist! Of course, I didn't have a DVD player, so I called up my friend and made plans for the weekend to watch it. Well, the plans fell through. I waited another week, but I just couldn't take it any longer. I had to see this! So, I bought the bullet and went down to Radioshack and picked up a DVD player. I got home, immediately hooked it up, and wow! what was I waiting for? The Godfather has NEVER looked or sounded so good! I began seeing intricacies that I had never noticed before! Even III looked like a masterpiece! (well... let's not get too excited...). So, I asked myself, "Self?" "Yes?" "What in the world did you DO before DVD'S?!!" Well, I don't know, but I'm sure not going to do it anymore!
This DVD Collection is easily the best ever! I won't go into the movie plots because anyone willing to shell out 75 bucks for this knows and loves the films already. The Bonus DVD is great, though! It has around 20 deleted scenes (alot more than the token two or three on regular releases) and they actually are good scenes! You finally get to see Michael give Fabrizzio what he deserves. The second best thing about the Bonus disk is the (I believe) 90 minute documentary. It is basically Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo and some other guy I can't remember who it was sitting around a table reminiscing about making these movies. Spliced into this are scenes from when they were shooting the movies, and, best of all I think, lots of screen tests by various actors for various roles. You get to see Robert De Niro test for the part of Sonny, James Caan test for Michael, Martin Sheen test for Michael, Al Pacino test for Micheal, and many more. The documentary is almost as good as the movies! What other DVD can you think of that has a documentary that's worth viewing more than once? (well, Taxi Driver did have a good one). The extras don't stop there though, you also get to see the Oscar exceptance speeches, about 9 more mini-documentaries (on the music, Francis Ford Coppola's Notebook, etc...), a photo gallery, Commentary by FFC for all three movies (the commentary is good, and incitefull), and of course trailers for all three films.
So, what are you waiting for? Go click on BUY NOW or run to the nearest video store or do whatever you need to do to buy this set!! It is mind-blowing!!!
