Summary: This has been bothering me, I hope I'm not the only one.
Review: The one star is not for the quality of 8 of these 9films. Eight of the movies are great, and a few are classics. Disneymakes great animated films, although technological improvements aside, the older movies are my favorites. Disney proclaims they are about Families, what percentage of Families are fortunate enough to afford Disney products, much less a trip to Orlando? A collection of disks should reward the purchaser for a large buy, and not round off the already overpriced collection with a straight to video "movie" that has no place with these others. Secondly, DVD Technology was created to allow choice. I happen to like the original wide movie format. But that should not matter as The DVD allows for multiple aspects. Why not take advantage of the sound DVD was created for? For the price Disney is demanding they should offer content of the highest quality, not dump a looser on their customers, and finally take advantage of what DVD was created for. The movie may have been made decades ago, but I don't want it to sound that way or only have the option of watching pan and scan with both ends of the frame cut off. Come on Disney, you should set the standard, not fail it.

Summary: Don't Pay the advertised price for these Disney films!
Review: I was excited when I heard that Disney was releasing some classic films on DVD. But when I received Pinocchio in the mail, and noticed really no extra features (just no ten minutes of commercials for other Disney products like on the videos), I was a little disappointed. I was glad I ordered my DVD online. Don't pay the advertised price for these films. Buy them online. As for this "collection", make your own. You can save by not buying that "straight to video" one. Always check the price on collections, often you can make your own "best" collection for less and not have any "filler" films.

Summary: Disney DVD comes up short
Review: I just want to re-iterate what many of the reviewers have already posted.

I was excited when I heard that the classic Disney animated features were going to be on DVD. However, I was just as disappointed when they were finally released.

The prices Disney is charging for these DVDs, compared to the features being offered is nothing short of ridiculous. Extra features and trailers aside, Disney could have at least remastered the older movies in Dolby 5.1. I believe 101 Dalmations and Pinocchio are not even being offered in widescreen. It is also not clear whether the films that are widescreen are enhanced for widescreen TVs.

These are basic features I believe many DVD enthusiasts require before even considering whether or not to buy a movie on DVD. I hope the market bears this out and either forces Disney to lower the prices of these editions, or to start producing more feature-rich DVDs.

Summary: Take your time to upgrade your Disney collection.
Review: If you bought that brand new DVD player so you can watch these new Disney releases, you're wasting your time.

If you look closely, you'll notice they're trying to slip in that awful Lion King made-for-video piece of junk sequel into this "collection." Disney should not mix and match their real features with the fakes.

Why waste your time releasing a movie on DVD when there are no interviews, outtakes, or even original theatrical trailers included? Even with Amazon's savings, Disney's still asking a full lenght movie's price for their just over 1 hour long features, which have nothing extra added whatsoever. Why does Disney think they can repeatedly rip off consumers like this?

Even if you don't care that Disney has decided to include absolutely no exras in these titles, you'll still get stuck with that copy of "Simba's Pride" you can never get rid of. Disney should have released a special made-for-video "collection" separately, full of those sloppily slapped together monstrocities with their bad animation, worse plots, and the most horrible songs imaginable. That way you can easily avoid them altogether. Just as you should avoid this "collection." Unless you're looking forward to owning that Simba's Pride" coaster.

Your VHS copies are good enough. They'll last a long time. At least until Disney can get their act together.

Summary: Thanks for the warning about no extras!
Review: I would LOVE to have all the Disney stuff on DVD, BUT I want all the goodies that I have come to appreciate in other DVD releases. The studios only listen to your wallet. I agree that if we want the goodies, then we can NOT buy anything that does not have them, otherwise we will never get what we really want. It will be frustrating to wait, but in the end it's the only thing that will get Disney, and the other studios still being lazy and cheap with their DVD releases, to pay attention. Besides, I have already been burned too many times with CDs as well as DVDs by hurrying to buy a new release, only to have the 'Special Edition' released a year later with all the goodies.

Let your money do the talking!

Summary: Great but not enough behind the scenes footage!
Review: It was great to see these classic films finally put into a format that is high quality like DVD! I was hoping that they would have included interviews or some behind the scenes footage. Everybody loves that kind of special material. It's ironic considering Disney really started the whole behind the scenes thing back with when they released the Mary Poppins and Jungle Book CDs and included rare interviews with the Sherman Brothers as well as never before heard demonstrations of songs. That was really great when they did that. We are left to wonder why they don't do more of that now when it's practically become the normal practice.

Summary: Disney can do better.
Review: It would be the easiest thing in the world for Disney to compile some line test footage, interviews with the animators, different script drafts, Frank and Ollie's audio commentary, or character design sketches into these DVD's, but instead they release them bare bones! The Ghostbuster DVD is PACKED with goodies, is Disney less creative?

Are they planning to never release them with any features, or are they hoping true Disney fans will have to buy them AGAIN when they re-release them as anniversary editions?

Save your money, fans. Watch your videos.

Summary: Disney has been one of the worst companies for DVD extras
Review: I agree that if people refused to buy these full-price versions with no extras, the company would turn around and follow what literally every other studio is doing - adding commentary, and extras - as Pixar is doing with the special release of "A Bug's Life." That disc should be a lesson. People who bought it early, ended up having to buy it again to get the extras. Be careful.

Summary: Special features needed
Review: I agree with the previous reviewer. Where are the special features on these DVDs? My kids really don't care about DVD's superior picture and sound quality vis-a-vis VHS. So why should I pay more money for the DVD version of these titles if they completely lack special features? (And, no, scene selection is not a special feature.)

Special features like making-of documentaries and commentary tracks enhance your enjoyment of a movie and help justify the steeper cost of DVD. The Prince of Egypt (Dream Works) is a great example of an animated movie with nice extras. What's more, I don't see anything indicating that these are anamorphic (16 X 9 enhanced) video transfers. These would be wonderful movies to own, but until Disney learns how make DVDs properly, I'll save my money.

Summary: No extra features? What's the point?
Review: It would be nice if Disney took the lead of other companies and put extra features on their DVD Discs. New Line, Warner Bros. even Universal have gotten into the act and have made mass profits by taking the extra time to put extra features in the discs (i.e. trailers, "Making of" Documentaries, Deleted Scenes, Pencil Tests, etc.) A good example of an animated film with extras was "Quest for Camelot". If Disney is going to release these discs, but not put any extras on it and charge *full* price for them, why release them at all??? :-(
