Summary: Tragic Hero Seeks Ithiaca
Review: The orginal Homeric hero, tossed about by the Gods of Olympus as he spends 20 years from home. The overbearing suitors run their generous hostess to her limits as the son, Telemechus prepares to defend the honour of a hero long since forgotten. The return from the Trojan war was long fought for ullysse and his crew. Ten long years filled with various adventures created by the gods are told very nicely in this movie. The special effects, which arrive in the early 60's with Jason and the Argonaughts, though missing here should not take away from the sense of adventure which Douglas beautifully portrays. This should be on all young men's list to see. Though lacking the modern star wars flair, 90 minutes of watching a hero return to his homeland Ithiaca still can be moving. Hokey- i say not- fundamental hero, yes. Homer's cunning warrior king is very nicely presented in this classic of 1955.

Summary: Excellent Movie - "Give me back my men!" (Good for dogs)
Review: This movie is the best movie yet! One of the funny parts is when Ulysses gets trapped in the cave with the Cyclops and has to make wine for the Cyclops and all he does is steps on the grapes and tada - wine. And finally it is good for dogs beacause it teaches the dogs how to make wine and also to have faith in their masters homecoming. Watch the movie to see what I mean.

Summary: More of a satire then anything else.
Review: What can I say. This was made by the same film company that made all those low budget Hercules movies. Kirk Douglas is somewhat amusing in the part but the cheesy effects and art direction will make you turn the movie off in five minutes.

Summary: Kirk's conquest!
Review: Yes--absolutely, I agree with other reviews that it is overdubed badly and that the ending reunion of Ulysses and Penelope is a "let's get out of here" finale. And yes, the young Rosanna Podesta is witless as the young princess who discovers the shipwrecked amnesiac wanderer.
However! This is a chance to see Kirk absolutely revel in his emotions, ranging the gamut from comedian (try amusing a man-eating Cyclops yourself, eh?) to a foaming-at-the-mouth grief-stricken sailor (tied to the mast as his ship passes the Island of the Sirens). Better yet, look at the rage in his heart when he confronts the suitors who have pillaged his home in his absence. Three cheers also for a very sexy Penelope--for whatever reasons it took, I would have faced all those monsters and tragedies to get back to her arms and bed too!
A final bonus for Anthony Quinn as the most bold and arrogant of the suitors--his acting was a needed support. Aww, go on and admit it--this film is fun for any middle school teacher who needs to put through the visuals of the Odyssey. Sure beats the lame excuse that Armande Asante did!
