Summary: This movie sucks!
Review: Ok, I was all geared up to see this movie... and i was gravely disappointed. There is no plot.. Did I say that there is no plot. Uhm, once again there was no plot.. It gets one star because of the semi-good martial arts. However the stunts were unbelievable!

I would recommend you wait until it comes out on video..just for the sake of saying you saw it!

Summary: The One is The One
Review: In The One, the premise is that the universe is multi-versal, i.e. there is more than one universe. Each person exists in a finite number of them, and the Evil Jet Li (Yulaw) is attempting to kill himself in all of them to become "The One", a being where all the power of his other selves will be concentrated into one vessel.

The only problem with this is that noone knows what will happen if he is successful. But in the meantime, he is getting stronger, faster, and smarter, which is a good excuse for some good wuxia action! The last target is Gabriel, on a world like our own. Thus we have the set up for some good Jet Li/Jet Li fights.

This has been done several times, but in each case, I never got the feel that the people were totally different. Maybe in a few superficial ways, but not really different. I don't have that problem in this one. The two characters have little quirks about them that separate the two, and the manner that they carry themselves leads you to believe that one is a cold blooded killer and the other just a man caught in the middle. Besides that, in the fighting scenes, Jet Li's classical background in the martial arts shows, as Yulaw uses Xinyi style, a very brutal art to watch in action, and Gabriel uses BaGua Zhang fist style.. a flowing poetry in motion soft style. It is a ballet of one of the best forms practitioners in China- twice!

The other action scenes are similarly choreographed well, and the effects are put to good use in them. Speaking of effects, the special effects are dead on, also. Very good use of camera effects and computer artistry during the movie will make you think of The Matrix.

You will see a lot of comparisons to the Matrix... they are different stories, but told in the same style. The Matrix was a little deeper on plotting (this is on a par a little better than TimeCop), and the characters are not developed as fully as they could have been. There are several references to events in the characters' lives that are not fully explained. The movie could have benefitted from flashbacks in these parts, and it was not like the movie ran long at 85 minutes.

But complaints aside, I would definitely recommend The One.

Summary: The One Is Awsome!
Review: It's just what I've been waiting for. The special FX are superb. The only thing are a few plot holes but other than that it is the best action movie I have seen.

Summary: Jet Li is great, but his latest movie isn't
Review: I have been a fan a Jet Li for years now, and I watch all his movies avidly. They were, no are, great to watch over and over not just because they all had great action, but because the characters were likeable and their stories were interesting and, to a certain degree, believable. The One however, wants nothing to do with either a sensible story or the people in them. Instead focusing in on fight scenes. I know some people may ask, How can that be a bad thing? Well, it drastically draws from the action, taking away any motive for the audience to get involved with what's happening onscreen. It's too bad too because the premise sounds interesting and could have turned into a great story. I gave this movie 4 stars because Jet Li is still the greatest, and the final fight scene is an interesting One to watch. I just hope his next movie will be better, a lot better.

Summary: Really solid action film, innovative visuals
Review: So I took a break from work to catch the 1:00 matinee of "The One". It's definitely a very cool movie, and while it's not what one woulld call a "chick film", they did make some effort to have things other than violence to watch, and they did also show restraint as far as blood and gore is concerned. The violence was, in fact, almost entirely bloodless, so you could just enjoy people beating each other up without having to watch a lot of ugly consequence-type stuff. Definitely a plus in action movies that don't really have a "message".

Comparisons to "The Matrix" are, of course, inevitable, and some aspects of the visuals and the plot elements were similar to that movie, but the visual style was substantially different from "The Matrix". The makers completely eschewed the Nike-ad "stop time and spin around" bit, instead doing interesting things with mixtures of slow and fast motion in the same frame, and lots of well-integrated CGI.

The premise is that there are 125 parallel universes, and each of us has an analog in every one. When one of our other universe selves dies, the "energy" of the one that died is divided evenly among the survivors. Granted, it's more of a mystical/fantasy sort of concept than a hard SF sort of concept, but it actually worked better for me that The Matrix's premise did. I could never buy that whole "humans as batteries" thing.

Jet Li is cool as always, playing both a really nasty villain and a really nice good guy. There were a few weak spots in the movie, but I do not demand perfection of my heavy-duty action movies.

One of the main things that keeps this film from achieving cheesy action greatness is that there are no butt-kicking supporting characters in it. The premise doesn't allow for anyone other than Jet Li to be convincingly tough (though they certainly could have had some other people out trying to do the same thing he was trying to do, just to give him some competition). While I love watching Jet Li do his thing, I really want to see more than just him fighting.

I especially wish there were strong female characters. Li's wife is likable, but she's really just there to be supportive, then imperilled as needed. Where's Trinity when you need her?

Call it 8 out of 10 on the action movie scale, 6 out of 10 on the plot scale, split the difference, round up, et voila! 4 stars.

Summary: HARDCORE martial arts ,Jet li's back harder than ever
Review: Me and my friends have been following Jet li's film career for a very long time now and we have seen all of hes movies, and like all you jet li fans out there we are ecstatic that hes finally made it on to the American market. we were a bit suprised that he played the villian in "LW4" and that they went completely over the top with the wires on "Romeo Must Die" but there still great films, Romeo Must Die and "Kiss Of The Dragon" was what ive been waiting for and when i heard that "The One" was coming out i was over the moon. More martial arts, better acting, great story line and what more can a jet li fan ask for when you see him fighting against himself i guarantee you that you will love it, and each and every film he does just keeps on getting better and better. ENJOY 4/5

Summary: Jet Li is the master
Review: Jet Li is back, in what looks like one of his best movies to date. The acting looks a little wish-washy, but one can tell that the action is going to be mind boggling. I especially want to see where Jet fights himself. Hopefully it is going to be better than "Kiss of the Dragon." Don't get me wrong! It was a good movie and all, it just wasn't up to the "JET LI" standard. Watch out America, because in November, be prepared for an action packed, adrenaline flowing, hand to hand combat like never seen before. Jet Li, you are the master.

Summary: Not "The Matrix"!
Review: Although I haven't seen this movie, I am a Jet Li fan. It's nice to see him do what he does in a big budget Hollywood film. The action promises to be typical Jet Li; lightening fast, super smooth. That's enough of a reason for me to shell out my ten bucks and wait in line on opening day.

As for Jet Li being "refused" for the Matrix sequel. The man walked because they weren't paying him enough cash. What Hollywood fails to recognize is that Jet Li is an international action superstar with talent. The man has international recognition. He is more of a box office draw in any market than Keanu. Very few people will rush out to see a Keanu Reeves film without knowing what it's about. Thousands in Asia, Europe and the United States will rush out to see Jet Li in action, regardless of the plot. Yet, Hollywood see it fit to pay Keanu twice what they offer Jet Li.

Summary: Jet Li is the One- to watch! over and over again
Review: I agree with the last reviewer, the movie has nothing to do with the Matrix- nor do I think that it will be similar to the Matrix 2. This is only another great movie that will star the greatest on-screen martial artist in our time! One thing that I hope this movie will not have is all the Hip Hop music, like all the recent re-releases of Hong Kong flicks (City of Fire comes to mind). Not to say I don't like Hip Hop, but in these movies, it makes little sense to the films. Just because Romeo Must Die successfully combined the two genres doesn't mean they should all use this recipe.
One point a reviewer made is that this is Jet's way of getting back at the Matrix team by making this movie. He passed on the Matrix was because his wife was going to have a child, and Jet took the time off to be with her during that happy occasion. Jet Li seems not to be a vindictive person.

In the end- support these films and maybe we will see more films and more directors with fresh visions for America.
See this movie, you have no choice.
