Summary: 19 MINUTES MISSING!!!!!
Review: AS IS TOO OFTEN THE CASE, SOME SCHMUCK AT A COMPANY THAT PUTS OUT THE REGION1 DISC OF A GREAT HONG KONG FILM DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO RE-EDIT IT FOR AMERICAN CONSUMPTION. THIS IS 19 MINUTES SHORTER THAN THE HONG KONG RELEASE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE ACTUAL MOVIE, AND NOT SOME NIMROD'S BUTCHERED INTERPRETATION OF IT, GET THE IMPORT DISC.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: Charlene Choi and Gillian Chun are "The Twins". They are hugely popular singing stars and actresses in Hong Kong. Director Dante Lam does a Buffy the Vampire Slayer "homage" by setting "The Twins" against gyonshi - the fabled Chinese hopping vampires - and surrounds them with some of the Hong Kong's best actors, including Anthon Wong (Hard Boiled), Ekin Cheng (Storm Riders), Jackie Chan, and Karen Mok (Shaolin Soccer).

Summary: Chinese vamp attack
Review: Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung- two of Chinas biggest pop stars(aka TWINS) must stop the "Duke" from openening "Day for Night"(vampire bible) which will give him control of the human world. Don't let the fact that these are two pop stars trying to fight vampires repel you. The film is actually pretty good- believe it or not. They have actually been in quite a few films and do pretty well. Along with Jackie Chan(small cameo scenes- not too much fighting), Ed(ison) Chen(my arch nemesis), Ekin Cheng(who is in numerous other TWINS movies), and Anthony Wong. How can you go wrong. Watch for the fight between TWINS(choreographed by Donnie Yen)- its pretty impressive-even though they have no martial arts training. It is essentially a teen film but it has good action and TWINS so its a must. P.S- watch out- TWINS are addictive. Seriously.

Summary: Great vampire movie, but very little Jackie Chan.
Review: First of all it should be made clear to Jackie Chan fans this is not a film in which Jackie plays a central role. In fact, he has about two senes, and that's it. I guess they weren't able to get him as one of the main stars but were only able to have him on screen for a few minutes. That didn't stop them from putting his face on the cover, thus duping people into thinking he has alot to do here. The fact that this is marketed as a Jackie Chan movie when in fact he has scant running time is what makes me knock this review down a star.

That having been said, once you can get over that one disapointment, this is a really great action/vampire movie. The senes Jackie is in are quite funny. (When we first meet him, it's his wedding, and the bride has gotten drunk.) The plot is about veteran vampire hunter Reeve and his latest female partner Gypsy who take on The Duke and his army of the undead. The Duke has killed off four vampire princes and is after the fifth. If he can get the hearts of all four princes, he'll be able to obtain absolute power, which includes being able to walk around in the daylight. The fifth prince, Kazaf, meanwhile, is tempted to switch to the side of good when he meets and falls in love with Reeve's sister Helen.

Loads of action, great preformances all around (in terms of both acting and fight sequences), great special effects, (especially for a non-American film)cute actresses and some nice comedic touches make this one a film not to be missed.

Summary: Pleasently Surprised
Review: I happen to stumble upon this movie on Cable one evening. I wasn't expecting too much more from it than a campy kung foo movie. I have to admit that I was plesently surprised. Being a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, this movie was a welcomed discovery. I had never heard of the pop group "The Twins" but you can tell that they have great chemistry together as this movie was very entertaining. It was funny, and slick and full of action. The story line really held my attention and the special effects were no less than excellent. After watching the movie I knew I had to have it for my DVD collection. Jackie Chan made a fun cameo that was right out of his own movies. You can tell he just has alot of fun with what he does. I highly recommend the Vampire Effect if your looking for a fun and exciting movie.

Summary: Am I watching the same movie?!
Review: I never heard of this movie, but one day my Dad sent me a message about it, knowing that I was a huge fan of Martial Art movies, as well as Jackie Chan. I came here to check the user reviews and was impressed with basically nothing but 4 and 5 star reviews! Other sites also gave great reviews. I thought, "hey, how could I go wrong," so I purchased it.

Well needless to say after watching it I was shocked! I was shocked at how this movie was getting all these 4 and 5 star reviews. This movie was average AT BEST. The story showed promise and the special effects are some of the best I've ever seen, for a Chinese film. It rivals anything done in the United States. The sound was pretty decent as well, though some music, during a couple scenes, sounded like cheesy porn music.

What I couldn't get over though was some pretty cheesy dialogue, bad acting, and some parts that were just plain stupid (i.e. when Jackie Chan gives some Vampires some antidepressants and they dance to a "beat" he does on the Ambulance door).

The only really great part about Vampire Effect is the two stars of the film. These girls are cute! They also threw down, and there was a couple good fight scenes, though there is better. They are making a sequel and I may check it out, but I don't think I'll buy it. I suggest to ANYBODY to only rent this one. This is the first DVD I ever regretted buying.

Summary: NOT a Jackie Chan Movie.
Review: I'll be honest, when I rented this, I wasn't expecting much. Let's face it, any film called "Vampire Effect" with Jackie Chan as the headlining star isn't going to win any academy awards. I must say however that I was pleasently surprised. The refreshingly simple, yet compelling plot was enough to draw me in, however it was the special effects that made this film so fun. The fight scenes, CGI, and wirework rival the first matrix film and are thoroughly impressive. The film does not have the cheap feel that plagues many Hong Kong films. The english dubbing is for the most part excellent, however, this sometimes cheapens the experience. I would definately watch it with the subtitles the first time. This film's only downfalls are some overly cheesy dialogue and a few scenes of stupid humor that feel completely out of place in this film. Watch this film with the right mindset and I guarentee that you won't be dissapointed.

Summary: Somewhat different vampire movie
Review: In this movie, vampires live in a church - there's an interesting twist. Among the regular bunch of vampires who feed on humans, one young vampire - a prince - falls in love with "food" - a mortal woman, who happens to be a sister of a vampire hunter. Thus he decides that he doesn't want to feed on humans any longer, and just like Angel (from Buffy) opts for packaged blood supply.

The main actions revolves around power-hungry vampire, a vampire who can gain some special powers by taking the essence of several vampires of the royal descent. He already had his way with all the vampires of the royal descent, except the prince who lives in the church and here the main battle issues with some flying kung-fu.

The movie is on the light side - no gripping action, nothing scarry, more on the light and humorous side, with some special effects.

I did expect to way more of Jackie Chan, who barely appears in this movie.

Summary: A Light, Fluffy Movie
Review: It may be closer to 2 1/2 stars. I have the import version, The Twins Effect. No, its not a Jackie Chan movie, he has several annoying cameos. To be honest, the movie would have been better without him. That said, the fighting was pretty good, and the first scene in the train station was worth the price of admition. The rest of the movie was pretty fluffy. The story was OK, with an interesting take on Vampires. The acting was mediocre, but what does one expect from the Twins? All in all, a mildly entertaining diversion.
