Summary: Hooky but extremely entertaining
Review: I don't know why, but this is such an awsome movie to watch. The movie is corney, the plot is shallow, the dialog is goofy, in other words, it's a great recreation of a comic book. This is a GREAT action flick with lots of killing and then some more killing. I have a weakness for vigilante type flicks (ala Charles Bronsen.) I especially love the scene where he walks into the room full of badguys and hoses them all down with his assult rifle. Very fun movie to watch that'll make you want to watch it more then twice. I could have done without the rhyming bum though.

Summary: Wheres the skull?!
Review: I have one big problem with this movie. Where's the skull?!! The Punisher is my favorite comic character of all time so i was thrilled when i heard they were going to make a movie about him, but i think they should have a stuck a little closer to the actual story. In the comic book Frank Castle's family was killed by mobsters (like in the movie) but they died while having a picnic in central park, not a car bomb. He never lived in the sewers. Where's the minivan? Where's Microchip? Where's the ... skull logo on his chest?!

Summary: Good comic series flick
Review: Dolph Lungren stars as a Marvel Comics avenger who must battle the japanese mafia to rescue the children of big mop bosses and also to punish all of them to avenge the death of his family by a bomb car set by them.

The story moves with a good scenary and its good looking for me regarding the limited budget of this movie and the technical resources that haves.

The Dvd transfer is correct with good sound and quality image as it's a [lower-priced] retail movie and it comes from a minor studio.

The only objection I found it's that hasn't have any subtitles.

I know that is no necessary and it's a [lower-priced] movie but I think that adding the subtitles won't be so hard and the movie will be better;that's the reason why I give it only 3 stars instead of 4.

A good shopping offer with a good price that values it's worth.

Summary: Underrated B film deserves a shot
Review: Most of Lundgren's work is in B movies and this film was not a big success. Let me explain why: Like Van Damme's Street Fighter, this film maintains some elements of the comic book story but not all of them. I feel it was a pretty good film because it was not your run of the mill superhero film. It is gritty urban violence, which was being craved by audiences more and more during the 90's. The most impressive element to the film are the Japanese villains and their leader, Lady Tanaka, beautifully portrayed by Kim Miyori. These characters embody everything villains should be in a film: cold, calculating, sadistic, brutal, nonverbal (to a certain extent), and I mean, the list goes on and on. Dolph shines as the tortured hero as does Lou Gossett, his best friend and the only one who believes he actually exists. The opening credits and that catchy music also get an A+ in my book.

Summary: This movie punishes the guilty AND the innocent!
Review: Yikes... what a sad state of affairs THIS was (and still is)! If there was any indicator of the Punisher declining in popularity (not to mention comic-book revenues) in the early 90s, this movie is probably as good a harbinger as any! Sub-standard action sequences, the whole Vietnam-war veteran past of our anti-hero gone, his computer-whiz sidekick Microchip has been replaced by an alcoholic has-been stage actor, and he ain't even sportin' the big death's-head skull on his chest! And where's Jigsaw, our main man's most notable adversary? Aside from Pun himself, this flick has none of the other characters that made up his world in the comics!

Dolph Lundgren's infamous stoicism works surprisingly well for the character-well, for the most part, anyway. Sadly, when he tries to do a few brief bits of happiness & fear in this less-than-rousing actioner, it just looks forced, like they're beyond his emotional spectrum. Which they just might be, who knows. And Louis Gossett, Jr seems to be just biding his time between 'Iron Eagle' sequels here. His ultra-hackeneyed-and-cliched performance as our anti-hero's former police partner has been seen many a time before in far better shoot-em-ups.

Still, there are those silly moments of cheesy fun, which I like to experience in the movies I watch from time to time. Sadly, there ain't quite enough cheddary footage here to keep my interest for too long. Fortunately, the remote's fast-forward button is merely a finger away...

Summary: REvenge and Redemption
Review: The punisher does not follow the comic book but it is a good flick. It deals with two primal needs within the human psyche - revenge against those who have harmed us- and redemption, both internally and socially.
The punisher is out to avenge the death of his family by killing everyone remotely involved in it. He also wants to redeem himself for letting his family be killed.
A good flick to watch on a dull night with popcorn.
Plenty of action.

I had seen the edited tv version in the UK,but never the full edition! What can i say?An excellent movie!Dolph shines in one of the best films he has made to date.If you're looking for an action pic with just a hint of emotion and lots of death, this is the one for you!I believe there are 91 individual deaths(as in people dying as individuals, not in mass explosions etc) shown in this movie, possibly the highest! If you want a good action film this is the one for you!Buy it without delay!

Summary: Needs a Bigger Budget
Review: This is a great movie for what the people had to work with, but a larger bugjet project might have yeilded something truly amazing. Perhaps that dream is not over. With Blade, X-Men, and Spiderman all fair budjet films, Marvel may yet again try the Punisher someday. I hope they do. None the less, this movie is entertaining and certainly good enough to be a cult favorite. I watch it now and then, and almost wished they'd made sequels.
