Summary: Cool Action Scenes, That¿s About It¿
Review: Big on visuals, but lean on story substance. MI:2 should satisfy action or visual lovers. Anyone else may be a bit disappointed...

THE STORY:

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) returns to prevent the bad guy from unleashing a biological horror on the world.

THE ANALYSIS:

Personally, I found the story to be a bit on the boring side honestly. The action sequences and cinematography (as you'd expect from a John Woo film) were just AWESOME. The movie had a mix of romantic elements in it as well.

For me though, and this could be just me personally, I found myself phasing out for most of the movie and only really perking up for the action sequences.

THE DVD SPECIAL FEATURES:

The DVD features do not disappoint. Beautifully designed and chalked full of great stuff, DVD fans should be pleased with this offering.

1. Behind Mission: 14 minute "Behind the Scenes" featurette with interviews of the cast and crew discussing the movie.

2. Mission Incredible: 5 minute featurette discussing how the action sequences and stunts were filmed. Pretty enlightening stuff.

3. Impossible Shots: Director John Woo discusses how several of the key action sequences were filmed. Again, cool stuff.

4. Commentary: Feature length audio commentary by Director John Woo. Always interesting to hear.

5. Metallica music video, "I Disappear." 4 minutes. Better than average music video for a movie.

6. Alternate Opening Sequence: 30 seconds. Pretty cool.

7. Mission Improbable: 6 minute gag interview with Tom Cruise's stunt double, "Tom Crooze." Features footage from previous Cruise films.

8. DVD-ROM: More cool things for you on your PC.

THE VERDICT:

Well, if you are big on some pretty cool and visually stunning action scenes, this is the ticket for you. Substance wise though, I found this a bit lacking...

Summary: Much better then the first one
Review: The first movie is ok; the sequell is quite good. The action scences are much more intense and the the supporting actors do a better job. Recommended.

Summary: "You've gotta be kidding."
Review: This distressingly inept no-brainer is not only a bad sequel - it's a bad film in its own right. The essential problem is a mismatch of talents. Robert Towne is a wonderful writer, and his "Notorious" knock-off script might have worked in a different franchise, but as a "Mission: Impossible" scenario it's too dated, too simple and too slow. Similarly, John Woo is master of a certain kind of action, and he shines momentarily in the few opportunities the script gives him, but for the rest of the time he's struggling. The result is a film that's plain boring. Ugly and boring. Hans Zimmer's rhythmic score is about the only thing to keep you interested. But even that fails in the tragic/romantic moments when Zimmer shamelessly re-uses his own work from "Gladiator", suddenly making you realize how emotionally uninvolving this film is by comparison. For Australian audiences, "M:I-2" offers some particularly exquisite tortures: a great actor like Richard Roxburgh murdering a South-African(?) accent; well-known Sydney locations trying to pass for Seville; and the mind-boggling casting of John Polson which, in retrospect, is probably quite appropriate - the finished film has the amateurish look and feel of a mediocre entry for his annual short film festival, 'Tropfest'. This movie gives us nothing we haven't seen before and considerably less than we deserve. Doing a better job wouldn't have been impossible. Not even difficult. It just would've required better judgement. And probably a few people willing to say "No" to Tom Cruise: a word he clearly doesn't hear often enough.

Review: I think it's quite possible that it was.Seriously,Tom Cruise sucks and he proved it once again with this piece of garbage.Thinking about buying this,don't waste your money.

Summary: Hugely Disappointing
Review: As a great fan of Mission Impossible 1, I had great expectations for the sequel. Oh, what a disappointment to see the franchise ruined by tedious and all to common car chases and fight sequences. Ethan Hunt is too smart to get into a fight such as the one in the climax of this movie. Where is the intrigue, the espionage, the thinking man's Ethan Hunt? Apart from the cool opening sequence there is little in my opinion to redeem this movie. The Producer made a fatal mistake in getting John Woo to Direct this movie. Whereas Mission Impossible 1 is firmly entrenched in my DVD collection, the sequel will not be viewed again by this reviewer. Not recommended.

Summary: Ethan and Nyah are perfect together!
Review: I loved the chemistry between Ethan and Nyah. The action was still there but now they gave him a love interest who was not a colleague but was just as clever and unique as he is. Using the biological weapon as the national threat was credible and on target with today's problems. Add the spectacular opening shot with Ethan rock climbing and add a setting as gorgeous as Sydney, Australia and what can I say "Wow"!!! If you love motorcycles this will also pique your interest in the film. Women get the romance, men the blood and guts, or vice versa,and everyone comes away from the movie content and feeling that everything turned out the way it should.

Summary: Your mission if you choose to accept it...
Review: Mission Impossible 2 (MI2) succeeds best in presenting the overall concept of the proposed Mission Impossible series. Producer and star Tom Cruise states each film should have its own identity, directed in a unique manner. After Brian DePalma's extremely complicated plot and ambitious nod to Hitchcock filmmaking, this time we get John Woo's simplified nod to James Bond with an emphasis on the art of violence. Even Cruise's role as Hunt has magically transformed from a serious taskmaster to a smiling and suave secret agent who is confidently one-step ahead.

Ethan chases the villains who are holding a deadly virus named "Chimera" and its antidote. Their evil plan is to infect everyone and then sell the antidote for top dollar. Throughout, we have a lot of mistaken identity, often influenced by mask swapping similar to themes in another John Woo film, FACE-OFF. Story line aside, the whole thing is actually an excuse for big action scenes. And this film has plenty. From Hunt's phenomenal cliff climbing opening (impressive work by Tom Cruise), to a romance building car accident. Woo creates his action the same way as a young child in a sandbox. Gravity and physics are optional, only the "wow" factor matters. And this film thrives on that wow.

This film is a bit of a departure from the prior film, which had Hunt working intimately with several other agents who may or may not be trustworthy. This time, he operates mostly alone giving the film a 007 flavor. And what Bond film doesn't have a gorgeous Bond-Babe. Thandie Newton is the exotic thief who steals Ethan's heart.

This is a wonderful DVD, loaded and with a stellar audio/video transfer. It is in itself a film workshop, even if the film does not totally deserve of it. The making of materials is extremely informative and revealing. There is a GREAT piece where Ben Stiller acts as Tom Cruise's stunt double. That alone is worth the price of admission... David Fincher is in discussion to bring Mission Impossible 3 to the screen.

Summary: Mission Impossible 2
Review: John Woo's glossy sequel to Brian DePalma's excellent action film sees Tom Cruise return as the super-cool spy Ethan Hunt. This time, the plot is more straightforward than the first, and in contrast, the action is more outrageous.

Starting out with a literal cliffhanger, the film takes off with some good action scenes and trademark coolness from the Cruiser. But events seem somewhat un-involving, lacklustre even, as the plot meanders slowly along, with some boring sub-plots and un-inspired dialogue. And Thandie Newton provides eye candy but very little else. However the Anthony Hopkins cameo is very welcome and saves the rather tedious mid section. Finally, after some extended plot twists, we see the Woo trademarks: cool action, Slo-mo gunfights and those perennial doves. Then the action roars off with the last half-hour being one huge action wallop, with an enormous amount of stunts and explosions, leaving the viewer wanting a breather. Then we are greeted with the "bad guy and good guy punch up" ending, which is exciting, if somewhat brutal. In short, been there, done that. Sold action can't cover the film's flaws. Great special features on the DVD.

Summary: Where's the plot?
Review: This is a really bad movie. No one could act not even Tom Cruise, the writer must have been drunk when he wrote it, and it seems that whole movie was just trying to look like The Matrix only this movie has no plot.I mean this movie shouldn't even be listed as the sequal. Mission Impossible 1 always kept you guessing, you never knew what was going to happen next, but in this one you always know whats going to happen. What's that oh another rubber mask HO HUM!!!!!

all in all the only impossible mission here is trying to stay awake! BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: If you liked the original Mission Impossible movie with Tom Cruise you will love this one. It has everything: love, motorcycles, mountain climbing, free-fall off of tall buildings, plots twists and disguises. A great action movie with wonderful special effects.
