Review: Folklore has it that the bandit Janosik robbed from the rich and gave to the poor on the Slovakian and Polish side of the Tatra Mountains.

In the 1970s, a 13 episode television series of the story of Janosik was produced. This series is very well known to people in Poland, and is now available in the United States. The film itself is in Polish, but this version has English subtitles. This DVD has episodes 1 through 4 of Janosik series.

Set in the 17th/18th century, this series has an array of colorful costumes, fancy hats, and sword fights. Besides the action and adventure in the plot, there is also an element of humor.

On this disk, Janosik goes from an innocent sheepherder to chieftain of the bandits, seeking truth and justice while confronting the Count and his men. In the process, he falls in love with the beautiful Maryna, a strong, young villagewoman.
