Rating: Summary: LARS VON TRIER IS THE BEST! Review: With more then four hours horror, romance, comedy, drama, ghost and other sick stuff is this one of the best film i have ever seen! Ernst Hugo Järegård is also one of my fave actors and his performance of Stig Helmer is great!
Rating: Summary: The most bizarre movie ever set in a hospital Review: Lars Von Trier pulled out all the stops with the first four episodes of THE KINGDOM, which were compiled for theatrical release in 1995, beating all American films that year hands down as far as sheer originality was concerned. Although he could not match its inventiveness or novelty in the second installment (released stateside at THE KINGDOM II) the first is worth watching for its thoroughly creepy portrait of obsessive doctors who indulge in unethical medical practices, and for the scene where a kindly old hypochondriac unwittingly opens a door to the spiritual netherworld. Danish scum, indeed. The final moment of episode #4 may be the single most frightening moment in all of 1990s cinema.
Rating: Summary: Best mini-series ever, it blew me away!!! Review: I loved this series, Lars Von Trier's hand held camera work was wonderfull, cinema verite at it's best, Lars Von Trier showing details of his Dogma '95 in this one, one of the best directors I have ever had the pleasure of following. The climatic ending in the first one was very disturbing and gory, but I had to see the next one, (udo kier was great in that one as the baby growing at a exponential rate) and that one just went over the top, I watched all 8 hours (both parts) and wanted more!!! I can't believe I'm on the same planet as this guy!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Gost Story Trip Down Memory Lane Review: Dizzying camere effects, brilliant acting, eerie sets, and a haunting story line come together in Lars Von Trier's "The Kingdom."Set in a haunted hospital, the overworked staff and patients in this chamber of horrors struggle with ancient ghosts, haunting nightmares, and other psychic tortures. Watch this with someone close because you'll want someone to grab onto during this intensly suspenseful television miniseries. And set the whole night aside; I was compelled to watch the entire series in one sitting, and I think you'll feel the same way, too.
Rating: Summary: Det bedste af det bedste!!! Review: "The Kingdom" or "Riget" (it's original title) is one of the best Danish mini series ever! I know that because I my self is Danish. It is a true cult show at home like "Twin Peaks" is here in America. The plot and the way this movie is filmed can be a little confusing at times, but it is all in all a really good movie, and the fact that it's Danish makes it even better. I must confess though, when I saw "The Kingdom II" I had to give up. It was just too much...too weird. But I am very proud to have a director as good as Lars Von Trier in my home country, he is the best!
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Achievement! Review: The first time I saw this film, I was blown away by the sophisication of the bizarre storyline, the eccentric characters and by the hilarious off beat humor. Five hours long and set in a haunted Danish hospital. I was never bored, not even for a slightist moment. The Kingdom is a highly captivating and suspenseful, supernatural, dramatic comedy. I am dying to see the already made sequel and wait impatiently for it to arrive on video!
Rating: Summary: A eclectic mixture of genres Review: A great mixture of several genres, thriller, drama, black comedy and social commentary . It's not a hype that you've never seen anything like it, with Twin Peaks being the closest. It is full of memorable and 3-dimensional characters. Does anyone know about the video release date for the Kingdom II in N. America?
Rating: Summary: Why not in PAL/SECAM formats also? :( Review: "The Kingdom" was one of the best films I've ever seen. I've seen Kingdom-I and Kingdom-II last year at the Istanbul Film Festival (both parts at the same day! - total of about 9 marvelous hours) and till then I was searching its video... At last, I've found it here but unfortunately it's only in NTSC format! Anyway, I'll continue my search. This film is a must to see..
Rating: Summary: Worth the Four and one-half hours... Review: This gleefully demented epic fills a void for viewers like me: not since Dead- Alive has the movie-going public been blessed with such an intense and apocalyptic vision. It's certainly more than a horror film, but with the Horror genre leaning towards mainstream, watered-down formulae like Scream and The Faculty, perhaps we should be looking elsewhere for truly imaginative film-making. And for my money, this is the best place to start.
Rating: Summary: DO believe the hype Review: I've seen this twice, and have also seen Kingdom II. They are delightful, quirky, and hilarious. The acting by the entire cast is excellent and the characters and storylines immense fun. Has it's share of creepiness as well. You will never forget Stig Helmers and Mrs. Drusse!
