Summary: The Musical New York Hates to Love
Review: Ignore the critics. They're stuck-up morons. The musical is quite faithful to the writing of T.S. Elliott, and the creatures and dancing are all very catty. It's fun to watch, and the singing is beautiful.

Summary: Cats Review
Review: In my opinon, it is the best musical I have ever watched. All the actors and actresses perform beautifully. I especially like Mr. Mistoffelees,Grizabella,Munkustrap, Rumpleteazer, Mungojerry, Victoria, Bombalurina, Demeter, Etcetera and Rum Tum Tugger. There are also many other cast members but my list is too long to write. I am a fanatic about Jellical cats. My best friend and I already memorized Victoria and Mistoffelees' dance at the start of the movie and we perform every time we get a chance. We are working on Mungojerry and Rumpleteazer's dance. We only know the first half of it but we are working our butts off. This movie is very good and you won't be sorry when you buy it. it will make you want to sing and dance all night long!

Summary: It's good, but not the same as the Commemorative Edition
Review: Any version of this production (Elaine Paige, Ken Page, et. al.) is going to be good.

But before you buy, be aware that this is *not* exactly the same production as the year 2000 Commemorative Edition. The audio has been re-mastered, and the production uses some alternative takes that are not the ones used in the previous release.

Probably I'm just suffering from the "It's different from what I'm used to so it can't be any good" syndrome, but I did prefer the previous version to this one. The "Rumpus Cat" scene in particular suffered from the changed audio in my opinion.

If you've never seen this production of CATS, you will absolutely love this. I just liked the previous version a little bit better.

Summary: CATS as it should be
Review: This is the production of CATS to see. All of the members of this cast were hand picked throughout the world as the best performers for the roles and it shows. Even though many of the cast had not worked together before, when they came together for this performance they clicked.
This special DVD is simply amazing: the colors, the performance, the music-everything is spectaculure. Each performance is done so well that it's hard to choose any one as a standout...having Elaine Paige as Grizabella, the role she orginated, was cool; Ken Page is a wonderful Old Dueteronomy, and Michael Gruber as Munkustrap shines...I could go on and on.
Everyone should own or see this DVD, even if they don't know CATS. The bonus material is a plus, it's great to see the cast out of make-up and get their thoughts on the musical; simply put-there's nothing I don't like about this DVD. The beauty of the instrumental parts, as well as the vocals, makes me wonder why this wonderful edition was released on CD...Regardless, this is a must have.

Summary: absolutely wonderful!!
Review: This is a terrific musical. I am one who enjoys musicals, but my husband does not. However, Cats is so great, even my husband loved it. I sent a copy to my grandchildren as this seemed to be good choice for introducing them to a new [to them] music genre. These girls, ages 3 & 6, loved it. If you like Cats, look/listen to other material by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The man is a genius. Sara Brightman, with a small part in Cats, is also terrific. She starred in ALW's musical, Phantom of the Opera, also wonderful; she has individual CDs that are beautiful.

This version of Cats was recorded for DVD release & used a larger orchestra than the Broadway version. If you think you might enjoy a good musical at all, then buy this one. It really is superb.

Summary: I've found more bloopers...but it's a great movie anyway!
Review: I am 13 years old and I've seen Cats 5 times on stage (four times in New York and once in London), but this was by far better than any of the other times! Elaine Paige was the best Grizabella I have ever seen...ditto Michael Gruber as Munkustrap, ditto Jacob Brent as Mistoffelees, ditto Phyllida Crowley Smith as Victoria, ditto Geoffrey Garrat as Skimbleshanks, ditto Aeva May as Demeter, okay, ditto almost the entire cast!
Why do I say almost? There were a few people with whom I was not entirely impressed. Susan Jane Tanner was terrible as Jellylorum; as another reviewer said, "her voice sounds like rocks being rubbed together". I totally agree! She made the Gus number painful to listen to. Speaking of Gus...
John Mills was okay, but he certainly wasn't the best Gus I've ever seen. And he DEFINATELY wasn't worth cutting Growltiger for! Why did they do that? Just because they had to make the movie two hours for television doesn't mean they couldn't have put the whole thing on video/dvd. Again, Ken Page was okay as Old Deuteronomy, but he wasn't the best I have ever seen. And James Barron was somewhat boring as Bustopher Jones.
As I have said, this movie is wonderful, but there are a lot of mistakes in it. Some previous reviewers have mentioned them, but I've caught several that I think no one has said yet.
On dvd, if you skip "Old Deuteronomy", the chapter change catches Munustrap in the middle of a word. Also, Skimbleshanks doesn't go offstage between "The Moments of Happiness" and "Gus the Theater Cat", but somehow he aquires his vest between the two.
In "Macavity", after Macavity (Bryn Walters)steals away Old Deuteronomy, he comes back disguised as Old Deuteronomy. But in the background, Macavity is also showing the Jellicles that he's brought their leader back. Macavity may have powers of levitation, but he can't be in two places at once!
Before Grizabella comes onstage for "Memory", Jemima (played excellently by Veerle Casteleyn, even though she was dubbed) sings a verse of memory solo. But you can see Veerle's ear sticking out through her wig...also, in the credits where it says that Jemima was dubbed, they misspell it as "Jemmmima". Another misspelling is in The Making Of Cats. When they interview Michael Gruber, they spell Munkustrap as "Munkistrap".
However, these are all little mistakes. There is only one which I personally think is completely unforgivable and should never have been made. After "The Moments of Happiness", all of the cats stand up and stare at the camera. There is a view of the entire stage. And in the lower right hand corner you can see a red light blinking from one of the cameras!!! I really think that mistake should not have been made, or at least been discovered while they were doing the editing.
Overall, though, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen, despite the mistakes. I would definately reccomend it to anyone! Even if you don't like cats or dance. My friend didn't like either, but then she watched this movie and loved it! It's more than worth the price.
P.S. Did anyone notice what Jemima and Alonzo (Jason Gardiner) were doing in the background at the beginning of the Jellicle Ball (when everyone is still singing)?
P.P.S. What does "kudos" mean??????????

Summary: We have seen "Cats" live twice, This is by far the very best
Review: I am 77 years old.

My beloved late wife and I were avid live theater patrons, both in GB and the USA.

My wife and I were lucky to have seen our first "Cats" performance in London the first month it opened.

Several years later we again revisited London and saw "Cats" again.

Both times it was a remarkable theatrical experience.

I just received my "Cats (Ultimate Edition)" DVD and it is the very best version of "Cats" I have ever seen.

The extra bonus DVD that comes with the "Unlimited Edition," explaining in minute detail, how the play "Cats" was conceived and its production, is truly worth the price of DVD alone.
