Summary: Avoid this one
Review: Be warned this is a painfully bad movie. The plot is really stupid: A widower falls for some girl. The widower encourages the girl to marry his son. Everyone is happy until it turns out, that the son is gay. So the father seduces the girl. Next her crazy brother/boyfriend reappears and gets mad at everyone. Finally everyone gets mad and fights.

To top it off the acting is really bad.

Review: I saw this film at a film festival here a couple of years ago, and my friend and i felt it was the best film at the festival. It is beautifully filmed, has a wonderful east meets west soundtrack, and the plot is not as contrived as thethe other reviewer makes it sound. A wonderful tale of love lost and found, with some interesting plot twists.

Summary: Seducing Maarya
Review: It is one of the most unusual films I've ever seen. It's sad, it's funny, it's outrageous & it's sensitive... I think that's how the film should be seen. It seduces you with its unpredictabilty...

I can see why this film would upset a lot of people. For the same reason it will please a lot of specialty audience like myelf.

Some scenes just won't leave you after viewing...

The gentle scene between Maarya and her father-in-law, which burns and sizzles...And the roll in the rag love making scene is topped by a splash of curry. That for me is a classic.

The scene with 2 guys in the bathtub is gentle, kinky and not particular your typical gay love scene..,,

The S&M relationship between Maarya & her brother is both gentle & devastating...

To those who are open and brave and looking for a new way of telling a story...Go ahead. Get seduced!!!!

Summary: Pity the actors!
Review: The acting is okay but the script is so bad that no one can save this film. All the characters say exactly what is on their mind ... has the writer/director ever heard of subtext?

The cinematography is beautiful with strong contrast lighting and all, but the lighting is so theatrical that it further pulls you out of the story.

And the climax (which I wont give away in case you still want to see this) is just mind-bogglingly stupid. Do people talk like that on earth?

The only reason to see this film is the scene between Cas Anwar and Nandana Das where they alternately slap each other after each line of dialog. It is genuinely funny. Of course, I dont think the director intended it.

Summary: The worst edited movie I've ever seen
Review: This movie was simply terrible. I suppose I can't really fault the actors, but everything else was horrific. The pacing was slow and worse, purposeless, as if the director simply wanted to pad the movie out. Every scene involves long, pointless shots of people staring emotionlessly at each other, or more likely at the walls.

Of course, this is not entirely surprising, since there are so many cut edits (and sometimes, simple video drop outs) that I felt like I was watching a pile of scraps someone had pasted together with scotch tape. Come to think of it, perhaps I was. Perhaps the master reel was a work of incomparable brilliance that would surely have won awards beyond measure, if it had not sadly been lost in a fire. Perhaps this movie as it is is a brilliant piece of editing, pulling together a few scraps of film from bad takes and test footage, to make an almost coherant, if not good, piece of cinema.

But rationalization can only take you so far. Let's get real. This movie is awful.

And don't get me started on the DVD itself. This is the first time I've seen an encode so bad, my DVD player begged me for some whiskey afterwards just to get the taste out of its mouth. It looked like half the movie was interlaced and half was progressive! It lost audio sync! The frame rate was incoherant! Aaaaaaaauuuugh!
