Summary: CHAKA ZULU
Review: ONLY THE TWO SET VCR CONTAINS THE ENTIRE MINI-SERIES. SINGLE TAPES CUT PORTIONS OF THE FILIMU (ZULU FOR FILM)

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Instant Black Pride, just add VCR.
Review: Politics, magic, betrayal, legend, intrigue, power, scandal, war, arrogance and tragedy. There are only three miniseries I'd ever like to own, and this is one of them.

King Shaka is protrayed as a child of destiny who fully intended to make all the use of it he could. The actors who played him as both a boy and man were both nearly frightening in their intensity. Even memories of the lead actor give me chills.

Shaka was devestatingly intelligent, equally arrogant and only mildly ignorant because of his limited exposure to the outside world. This production makes me wonder what would have happened had he ever been able to travel. The Zulu nation became such an astounding force that England eventually took serious note, and this film succeeds in showing the amazing scale of what the Crown was up against. Compared to the mythic tale of Shaka's origin, the framing story -- a envoy telling this legend to Queen Victoria -- is heartbreaking.

If watching this film doesn't bring a derisive smirk to your face when you hear someone refer to "jungle bunnies," I doubt that anything will.

Cripes.

Summary: SHAKA ZULU
Review: Seeing this film when it was on t.v as a mini seris I was drawn by the legend, and how his great nation was not the unorginized bunch of savages britian thought it was. Sadly After purchasing this tape I was surprised to see VIDMARK cram 300 mintue into one tape recorded at ep speed. The quility of the picture was almost fair, but the sound would contiuly go in and out. Then to add more insult to this great film very essential parts were edited out that would explain Shakas determination of revenge. Its a shame that this is what this great documentry film has been reduced to throughout time.

Summary: How Africa was
Review: Shaka Zulu represents one of the best stories ever filmed in Africa. It truly represents the way of life in certain areas of the southern region of Africa at that time and it clearly illustrates the inter- tribal rivalry, which is found back, to a great extend, in present live in Africa. I was living in Douala, Cameroon, West Africa (or, for the French speaking: Cameroun) when I watched this movie for the first time. A great movie, worth watching, if you are prepared to sit down for a considerable amount of time.

Summary: Shaka was a shocker
Review: Shaka Zulu was a really great movie. It had all the aspects of an award winning movie. I don't know if it won any awards or not, but it should have. The British were very stupid in thinking that they could defeat the Zulu warriors . The Zulus were great fighters.

Summary: Awesome in it's power. One of the great epics of modern film
Review: Shaka Zulu, the story of one of the world's most brillant military minds, who revolutionized warfare on the face of Africa forever. This has to be one of my favorite epic films, i regret that i have watched it so many times that i know all the words, i wish i had never seen it before so that i could watch it again and get the feeling that i had when i first saw it 15 years ago. It dosen't star Elizabeth Taylor, it's not about the great British empire conquering the "savage" people, or about the "all mighty" U.S. calvary hunting down Geronimo and Mexican bandits out on the lone prarie. So you most likely won't see it on AMC or TCM anytime soon. They showed this on the History channel a few weeks ago and i was astounded, they finally showed something about black people besides Roots. Something where the black people weren't slaves or servants to White Americans, but were the heads of a large quarter-million empire that dominated any other on the continent. I found out recently that the white sport hunters nearly wiped out the Black Rhino population in the 1800's, only about 14 survived. Those 14 only survived because they were on Shaka Zulu's land and they were forbidden to be hunted there. All present day Black Rhino's come from those 14, so if not for anything else than for that alone, this story needed to be told in honor of Shaka Zulu. I am glad the movie is as long as it is [nearly 4 hours], the director didn't cut any corners to fit it in the standard 2 hours. Watch Shaka grow from boy to King, follow him on and incredible journey from outcast to ruler. I highly recommend it.

Summary: I love this movie!
Review: The first time I watched this movie I was around 9 years old and I remember my mother trying to record every minute of it ( she missed some parts though). Even back then I was moved by the story and now I'm happy that its on dvd, not the best quality but its 100x better than the recorded vhs version i had for over 10 years. Great acting , lots of action and very dramatic. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.... watch it!
