Summary: Tried to be Tarantino, failed miserably
Review: This director tried his best to reproduce every Quinten Tarantino movie I've ever seen, and failed miserably. The best thing about this movie is the title, which you can see at the top of Amazon's page and spare spending the $$$ on a waste of a perfectly good blank DVD.

Summary: not tarentino...
Review: this film is nuts...it's has a slower pacing than many, however it's japanese so it goes with the territorty. boasting a huge cast played perfectly by all, this film has things in common with tarantino, yet is not a rip off or even homage...this is something altogether its own. the director made an even crazier followup to this film called PARTY 7 with much of the same cast...everyone touts Miike and Tarantino...and while both of them make interesting films, Katsuhito Ishii is one film maker who should be the "next big thing" @ least out of japan...

and tarantino ripped of "the taking of pedlam 1 2 3" when he did
reservoir dogs. this guy doesn't rip anyone off...rather it's the genre that is in itself derivative of all the other gangster comedy dramas...so tarantion is as much (actually moreso) a rip off artist as Ishii...regardless of all that...isn't the point of their films simply for us to enjoy them? yes that's the point.

pretentious viewers should go off and watch whatever their comprehensive film classes tell them too...the rest of you might wanna watch this strange and interesting tale of...well just watch it.

Summary: Title is the best thing about it
Review: This is a review of the movie, not the DVD package itself, which I've never seen. "Shark Skin Man" is one of the worst movies I've seen Asano in. Pseudohip, relentlessly unfunny manga gangsterism, with sub-sub-Tarantino dialogue, flashy but mediocre camerawork, and bad acting all around. Uneven pacing, too, and the MTV Asia-style director knows less than nothing about making movies. Target audience for this is twitchy 12 year olds who have just finished watching every episode of Dragon Ball Z and want to watch live action anime.

Summary: Great Fun
Review: This is my favorite Japanese, although the subtitles don't really do it justice. It really helps to have some knowledge of Japanese to enjoy this movie- alot of the fun comes from the idiosynchracies of the characters, much of which depends upon how they use language. The character Yamada being a prime example, it may be difficult to catch the humor without some idea of what he's saying. That said, it does not require fluency to enjoy the film, but a basic level of Japanese may help/

Summary: wicked cool movie
Review: This movie had me in stitches from the intro. If you buy this movie in the hopes of finding a no-holds-barred action flick you may be disappointed. However, if you are a fan of movies such as Snatch, or anything by Quentin Tarantino I think you will probably enjoy this movie immensely. Most of the humor is in the dialogue between characters, and for serious, if you can put yourself on the right level you won't even need the action to enjoy it.

The action in this movie is not all that bad, and in my opinion, really helps the movie. There isn't a large amount, but that doesn't bring this movie down at all. The action there is is generally as entertaining as the dialogue, but the place where the movie really shines is the characters. The only one i'd have liked to been developed further is the main female lead; for the record, she is remarkably hot in the second half of the show.

I would recommend viewing this movie at least once; I actually rented it because of the title, and I wasn't disappointed at all.
