Summary: Love was never so beautiful
Review: I saw this lovely film for the first time over two years ago. Since then, in an attempt to understand so-called gay cinema, serious or otherwise, I found only this beautiful thing over and over as the ultimate joy of life and love, without life and love's constraints. Much gay film avoids love in favor of sex or love or at least does the disservice of showing a Spelling woman in dishvelled hair onstage.

The young guys in this film fall in love. That is what we all want. They do it so nicely that we accept it. Are Glen and Scott gay? Does it matter?

Summary: I Hate To Sound Like Every One Eles But...
Review: this movie is great!!! i feel that this movie has much to offer. A more than believable story line, a couple of funny scenes, a few sentimental scenes which balance each other out with out making one side too heavy, with many different people's points of views. The actors are great all around especially Ms. Tameka who plays the "slag" leah... but the main reason why this movie gets a perfect score from me is because well.... It's just down right entertaining. perhaps the movie that i watch the most out of them all is purely addictive... and GOT TO LOVE THAT MAMA CASS.

Summary: Best film ever
Review: I stumbled across Beautiful Thing in Amazon and I'm glad I did. It is truly an excellent film. I watch it at least 3 or 4 times a week. It is a touching love story which will melt even the hardest of hearts. A sweet story about first love that just happens to be between 2 guys. The soundtrack is amazing. And I love this film so much that trying to put it into words is hard. If you have yet to see it don't wait any longer. Let this Beautiful Thing into your life.

The acting, the script and the soundtrack are all superb. When I'm not watching it I listen to the soundtrack over and over. "Somethings are just hard to say" like how much this film has impacted my life. But I promise you all its worth watching.

Summary: wonderful thing
Review: Two young boys coming to terms with their homosexuality and with their love. One of the sweetest gay-themed films of the last decade.I found it touching and romantic, I get never tired of watching it. Wonderfully directed each character is a a little masterpiece:Jamie's mother, her boyfriend, Lea. Another aspect of this film that I find irresistible is the music; beautiful songs accompany the different moments of the story. It's a little masterpiece that I woul heartily recommend to everyone.

Summary: Beautiful Thing
Review: This movie cut straight to my heart. It lives up to its title. It is an incredibly beautiful movie.

I've seen lots of gay movies but honestly, this is the best one I've ever seen. This is the only one that I truly connected with and was profoundly touched by.

Everything about this movie was perfect just the way that it was. The setting was unpretentious and engaging. The characters were realistic and genuine. Jamie and Steve were not luminous beauties though definitely not ugly either; this worked out excellently. The mother was tough but so lovable; even her boyfriend was engaging. Leah, the black girl, was hilarious comic relief. The movie owes its charm partly to her.

The story: it's not pretentious, preachy, sentimental, or unrealistic. It's like an exerpt from a real life--no real beginning, no real ending--just a fragment of a boy's life where he falls in love and discovers himself.

It's timeless and universal. I can honestly say this is the most realistic portrayal of first love I've ever seen on screen--gay or straight. . . the wistfulness, naivete, pristine longings . . .

The ending was nothing short of perfect. So sweet.

Summary: Heartwarming movie regardless of orientation...
Review: This movie has so much to offer anyone who views it, straight or gay. Truth be told, I had never even heard of this film before I bought it, and wasn't expecting much. It was set in London, dealt with a working class family speaking accents I wouldnt understand....hardly something I could relate to. I couldnt have been more wrong. The story revolves around the budding romance between two young boys...but there's more than one story here. One kid's mother is struggling to raise him alone without sacrificing her freedom. The other kid's father and brother have him locked in a physically abusive relationship. Finally, the backdrop is the working class community of London, with its inherent struggles to make ends meet. The two actresses Linda Henry and Tamika Hempson steal the show however. Henry plays the mother of one of the boys, a dedicated mother who wants to bring her sun up properly without losing too much of her freedom. A bit of a man eater, she's a woman consumed by the fear that some would find her unfit, mainly because she knows she's not giving motherhood her full effort. Hempson is a Mama Cass fanatic, and her lines are perhaps some of the funniest in the movie. The funniest scene ironically is one of the only tense ones in the film, when Hempson's character believes herself to be Cass while on a heavy drug trip. To top it all off, the ending is priceless, if a bit unrealistic. Here's hoping we see more like this, and particlarly more of Henry and Hempson.

Summary: An Outstanding Coming of Age Story
Review: Beautiful Thing brought to us by Johnathon Harvey is an outstanding movie dealing with two boys who come to the realization they are gay. There is the usual awkwardness and rejection of this identity; however, the film brings both boys to the point of ackowledging themselves and realizing that if they are to be happy, they have to be themselves.

The film production is far superior to the play upon which it is based. The characters of Jamie and Ste are well acted and Jamie's Mom, Sandra, brings a breath of fresh air to the woes of single parenthood. Here is an openminded woman who wants the very best for her son. Despite the fact that she would never have chosen for him to be gay, she realizes that this is an essential part of his nature not to be denied.

The story is well developed. The character of Leah adds some real spice to the goings on in the British neighborhood in which Jamie and Ste live. The use of Mama Cass's music is ingenous and enjoyable.

A fine movie. Highly recommended for any kids struggling with their sexuality and also for straight kids who need to understand differnce in a much more fundamental way.
