Summary: ** No, not another a chick flick
Review: ** No, not another a chick flick, February 7, 2002
Revived: Antoine Napolitan from ,mass
Shakespeare in Love was an okay movie. The parts I didn't were when the Queen didn't let Violate be with Shakespeare. Also when they were going to arrest him for nothing. I wouldn't go to see this movie in theaters. I might not even rent it, but if it was on television or on a movie channel I probably would watch it. I don't think its fiction on his life I think its real. Also I like the fact that he wrote most of his stories were about his life.

Summary: shakey lover
Review: 'Shakespeare in love' is one the most romantic movies i have ever seen... it brings shakespeare back to life for me. Altough i have always been a fan of Shakespeare, this movie hit home for me and made me appritiate him more... it is classified as a comedy and yes there are some funny parts but i think it is so much more than a comedy... i can not even begin counting the number of times i have watched it and it seems to get better each time!! Geoffrey Rush and Gwyneth Paltrow are truly awsome together!

Summary: Fiennes is brilliant and Paltrow falls short
Review: This movie may have won critical acclaim but I don't know why the Academy chose to award Paltrow with an Oscar. Gwyneth resorts to her typical range of emotions and never breaks the mold to emobody the character. I felt very little compassion for Lady Viola. Fiennes is well suited for comedic roles and his melancholy is believable in this film. Judi Dench performs well and deserves her Oscar as Best Supporting Actress. Personally, I think Cate Blanchett was robbed of the Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth.

Summary: Best movie I have seen in years!!!!
Review: This has to be the most romantic movie I have ever seen. I was so pleasantly surprised. I had to drag my boyfriend to see it, but he ended up loving it almost as much as I did. It is so witty, intelligent, funny and charming. The cast is perfect, especially Joseph and Gwyneth. This movie is on my top 5 list of my favorite movies ever. I truly can't say enough good things about it, but if you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? You won't be dissapointed, I promise.

Summary: Not best picture (tm) but really good
Review: It's romantic, it's sweet, it's luminous and you don't have to turn your brain off.

If that's not enough to entice you away from predicable and sappy romantic movies to a higher plane I don't know what will.

Cozy up on the couch with your best girl and have a nice night.

Summary: You're kidding right?
Review: This movie won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan? Who was doing the judging and how much were they paid? I tried watching this movie but literally had to turn it off after 30 minutes. Truly unwatchable in my opinion. What tripe.

Summary: Breathtakingly romantic and touching!
Review: Shakespeare in Love is really awesome. I just saw it on tv and absolutely loved it. There are some parts it could be better off without in my opinion, say, for example the "it" parts and how they seem to do it almost every moment. But, I suppose it adds to the atmosphere because, hey, some people think it's romantic. But I still liked it, especially when they acted out the part that 'Romeo and Juliet' is most known for {which is when they die or mistake each other for dead and then die}. It sort of made me feel like crying because the way they acted it really twanged your heart, I mean, you could really tell that they were in love, you know? Anyway, it's rated R, I guess, but I didn't know that. It looks like it should only be PG-13 or something. I enjoyed though, having never really seen Joseph Fiennes or Gwyneth Paltrow act before.

Summary: How?
Review: How could this bit of froth have stolen away Saving Private Ryan's rightfully-earned Best Picture Oscar? Sure, it's clever, but... well, it ain't Shakespeare.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not Oscar Material.
Review: This movie is really just a good romantic comedy. It lost the oscar, of course, to Saving Private Ryan, which wasn't as pretty or funny.
Gwyneth Paltrow revises the role she's played many times before- pretty, rich girl (with fake British accent)and Judy Dench again plays the crochety older woman, though to be fair this time she is also Queen Elizabeth.
It's not a bad movie, and it's not badly acted, but it doesn't really say anything, except maybe that love is nice, or painful, or fleeting. And that's okay- but a movie that wins the best picture award should be much better than nice, funny and pretty.

Summary: Perfect Romantic Comedy
Review: The one thing that stands out about this great film, is not the acting, the costumes, the wonderful script. It is a very simple thing which I have always looked for in movies, and only once found: the ability to be a romantic comedy without trying. The romance comes from believable, everday things, and the comedy comes basically from observations about life that are funny, being true. Gwyneth Paltrow is of course wonderful in this film, and worthy of the Oscar she got, but the real shining point is Joe Fiennes. The fact that he escaped an Oscar nod is horrible, and I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Academy! Heartfelt, beautiful preformance. There's really not much I can say further about this film, without gushing and turning everyone off, so I'll conclude - if you haven't seen it yet, please do. Again and again and again.
