Summary: This is by far my favorite movie . . .
Review: . . . which is actually quite extraordinary, since I usually like so many different things for their own individual reasons that I can never choose favorites. If you are a lover of the beauty that can evolve within a story, watch this movie. You will not regret it. In fact, like me, you may even find yourself renting it over and over and over again until finally you find yourself searhing for it in cyberspace during the wee hours of the night!

Summary: This movie made me physically ill.
Review: Please do not buy this movie. It is the most disgusting and perverted film I have ever seen. I will not write a summary because I will vommit if I have to think about it any more.

Summary: This is the best foreign film I have ever seen.
Review: Antonia's line begins as Antonia is moving back to her hometown with her daughter. She tells her daughter about all the people in the town, who each have their own quirks. Time goes by and Antonia's daughter has a daughter, who later had a daughter. The thing that surprised me the most about the end was who had been narrating the entire time. This is a great movie for anyone that loves movies.

Summary: Engrossing, life-affirming Dutch film impossible to resist.
Review: "Antonia's Line" is an Oscar-caliber film of astonishing power. It follows three generations of women on a farm in the European lowlands. But it is really a timeless tale of the power of love to overcome prejudice and bigotry of all kinds. NOT A WOMENS' MOVIE! I defy you not to be profoundly moved. A masterpiece. END

Summary: This is just an amazing chronology of a person's life
Review: If you are interested in a person's life - their successes, laughter and ups and downs... this is the movie for you. It is not really a tear jerker but a spiritual up lifter... END

Summary: Feminist Fantasy
Review: European trash are not interesting enough for a two hour movie. The characters are all cliche's of village life. The bad guy is a blond (facist) rapist. He rapes his sister and a little girl. He comes back to town in a military uniform. The good people in this movie are all Lefty lesbians and tough grandmothers. This movie is a feminist fantasy of the European variety. The men are stupid and the women are brilliant. The only smart man in the film commits suicide.

Summary: Well Done but Too Polemic at Times
Review: As many reviewers have already pointed out, Antonia's Line is a film that celebrates women, their power and independence, their healthy condition that they enjoy when they are free from men, their superior spirituality to the male gender. Upon a second viewing, I found the film a bit annoying, painting women as smug earth mothers, and men as testosterone-deranged crackpots who must be kept at a distance. Thus one women "allows" a man to impregnate her but, deeming him an unnecessary presence, wants to raise her child on her own. The only men that are looked at with kindness in this film are emasculated neurotics, professorial, melancholy eunuchs, and the like. The polarity between women as spiritual earth mothers and men as troglodytes is a grotesque oversimplification and impedes the film's noble attempt to question male-dominant roles and how those roles have subjectated women.

Summary: Absolute masterpiece
Review: Antonia's line is one of my all-time favourite films. I was very surprised when it won the Academy Award as it was far too risky to seduce the sometimes narrow-minded Academy members. As other people said this is a celebration of life and its circle showing some very interesting characters and clever attitudes about sex and religion. Some accused it to be too feministic, but in my opinion this is a film directed by a woman about four generations of women, and as a man, I never felt insulted. All it shows is pure respect and tolerance. An absolute gem to enjoy again and again. Don't be afraid of the subtitles, you are in front of one of the most beautifully deep films of recent times.
Enjoy... Thanks for reading.
