Summary: Roger EbertThis movie rules!
Review: Upon first viewing of the trailer, i couldn't control my overwhelming desire to see this movie. For years now I have endured Julia Roberts, TV show remakes ( brady bunch, McHales Navy ),Romantic Comedies, Tom Cruise, and sequels of sequels of movies that don't merit sequels (rush hour 2, brady bunch 2,) and every other kind of vile garbage hollywood has to spew out. I have also beared witness to SIX terrible halloween sequels, the boring Freddy series, and countless slasher film imitations. It truly is a joy to finally see the undeniable King of Splatter return to his throne. This latest tale of Crystal Lake killer features excellent(for it's budget)special effects, some beautiful deaths, and of course the whole upgraded thing, which doesn't get enough screen time, but is just about the coolest thing to ever happen in a movie. The best feature of this film is that it completely ignores the horrifyingly ridiculous antics of "Goes to Hell." Amidst a summer chock full of stupid movies like XXX, Undercover Brother, Windtalkers, Spy Kids 2, and any other trash-flick, it's nice to know that instead of going to the theaters to see Spiderman for 7000th time, or watching one of the afore-mentioned movies, you can save that money and buy a copy of Jason X, Resident Evil, or Blade 2. BYE BYE!!!

Summary: "I don't see why everyone hates this..."
Review: I haven't seen the actual movie, but I've read the script and I loved it! I can not believe that so many people hated this. Anyway, the fantastic Kane Hodder is Jason, which is also a plus for this movie, and Uber-Jason is absolutely fantastic! Also, Tod Farmer scripted quite a bit of humor, too. For those of you who think Jason just changed outfits and all of a sudden he's Uber-Jason, you're wrong! When the foxy female android, Kay-Em 14, almost blows Jason to oblivion, Jason lands on a repair machine (but this repairing machine does not repair machinery, it repairs organs, including the brain, bones, flesh, etc.), and he is modified into a whole new look and becomes a lot stronger than he ever was. This film also marked the first time in a long time that Jason actually decapitated someone. I did some figuring and I came to the conclusion that Jason is roughly around 520 years old by the end of this one. I give this five stars also because Jason did not remove his mask (well, technically, he does at the end but it doesn't show what's under the mask. For the short period that he has his mask of, we don't see his face). So, in conclusion, I seriously recommend "Jason X" to any Jason fan!

Summary: Cyber Jason rules, but not long enough,
Review: Jason X is a decent addition to the Friday the 13th series, but could have been better. It is not a classic horror movie, but the whole series, with the exception of the first two or three, never pretended to be. The dialogue is obvious, with some great lines, such as "It's okay, he just wanted his machete' back". Some of the killings were cool, especially when Jason shoves the face of a cute lab assistant into a sink filled with liquid nitrogen, and it freezes and then he smashes it into smithereenies onto a table. Awesome. or the absolutely hillarious Camp Crystal Lake retro kill of two nubile female campers who get thrown against a tree while still in their sleeping bags by good ol, Jason. It's more funny than scary, but that's what most true Jason fans seem to realize is the truth of the series. My only criticisms were that we don't get to see enough of Cyber-Jason, and the ending. Jason is flying through space and collides with one of the other characters, and they both plummet back to Earth and Jason's head lands in a lake. (I assume it's Crystal Lake once again.) A far more interesting ending would have been for Jason to crash land into the facility where Michael Myers of Halloween fame is being held, on Halloween day no less, they then both run amok on the staff, then on the towns folk, hee hee hee, then two weeks later on Friday the 13th have a showdown, mano au mano to see once and for all, just who rules. This would have set up a great sequel or even a start of another series, Jason Voorhees vs. Michael Myers which would be a far better battle then Freddy vs Jason in that Jason and Michael are far more similar than Freddy vs either of them. If you're a fan of the Friday the 13th series, go see this film.

Summary: MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT
Review: First of all, I was skeptical that they were making a new Friday the 13th. When you say that a killer like Jason is going to be dead forever, you need to keep your word. They did not keep their word. However, the previous movie, JASON GOES TO HELL, was not the closure to the Friday the 13th series that I was looking for. Therefore, I decided to approach this movie with an open mind. But that wasn't enough for me to like the movie. In fact I was terribly disappointed. There are some good points, but they are very few and far between. I like the idea of putting him in space, and the overall story. The killings were awesome and very graphically violent (they were actually checking peoples' i.d.'s specifically for this movie). They were executed brillaintly. As usual , Kane Hodder is great as Jason. But, here is the movie's fatal flaw :TO MUCH COMIC RELIEF!!!! THE FILM WAS TOO DAMM FUNNY!!. If you were not able to see the movie screen, you would have thought the audience was watching MEET THE PARENTS. MEMO TO HORROR FILMAKERS:: WE DO NOT PAY OUR GOOD MONEY TO LAUGH DURING A HORROR MOVIE!!!!... The other problem is that the characterizations were done poorly (mostly b/c they were too funny). Overall there just wasn't enough suspense in this film. This is the kind of film in which the filmakers had some great ideas, but executed them poorly. There is a scene in which the teenagers create a virtual world of Crystal Lake to distract Jason. Terrific idea, but done poorly. He took a couple of teenagers and beat them against a tree. Now, I understood they actually tried to get Betsy Palmer to do a cameo in this scene to reprise her role as Jason's mother (which also should have been done in part 9), but Palmer turned down the part. Still, they could have come up with something better than the circus act in that scene. Bottom line: This movie should never have been made. They should have done a much better job with part nine and stopped the series right there. I'm a huge Friday fan, and I think most of the sequels are terrific, but I was dissapointed with this one and part nine. MEMO TO THE FILMAKERS: DONT MAKE ANOTHER FRIDAY MOVIE, AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T MAKE "FREDDY VS. JASON. I think the all the FRIDAY movies that were made in the 80's were good, but probably the best ones are part 1, 3, 6, and 8. Guess we will just have to keep sticking w/ the horror movies of the 70s and 80s.

Summary: Entertainment at its Best
Review: This movie was made for Jason fans and does a remarkable job. It is not for everyone. I think if you have a bad opinion of this movie, I'm not sure what you were doing in the theater in the first place. When you walk into a movie such as this, you expect blood, over-sexed teenagers getting slashed, and cheese. Jason X totally delivers.

Also - major Kudos to the director. The pace of the movie was handled extremely well. There was never a dull moment and it was actually much more suspenseful than I expected. This movie ended with me wanting more, where Spiderman had me thinking, "Ok - is this about over yet?"

I know I may have lost all credibilty with that last line, but its how I feel.

Summary: Uh oh!
Review: Well, any entry in the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise is welcome by me! I am not very picky when it comes to movies of a genre/premise that I like, particularly these. However, from a critical point of view, they really blew it.

They tried to too hard to make it a self-parody. For all you directors out there who are making horror films, let me give you some free advice: don't EVER make them satires! They don't call them horror movies for nothing. They are supposed to be scary, not funny. Also, the acting was pretty poor. When the crew members on their walkie-talkies found out that someone had been killed, they were more like "oh well, that's life" instead of being genuinly grief-stricken. Also, some black dude in this movie amazingly retains his sarcasm, even when he has a spike in his ribs. "It's going to take more than that", he says. He then gets another spike and says, "Yep! That oughta do it!"

As far as Harry Manfredini's score goes, it started out very well in the beginning credits, but it went downhill from there. In parts where the music should burst to life, it doesn't. It also sounds more like a video game soundtrack. For those that have heard the JASON GOES TO HELL soundtrack, just imagine the corniness multiplied by 2, then you got JASON X. His last great FRIDAY THE 13TH score was FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES, but he just can't seem to get away from them synthesizers and back to traditional orchestra.

They made this movie seem like it was going to be a unique entry in the series, and I loved it! I am just saying, whatever those pesky critics say this time, I can't really blame them. But from my P.O.V., it was pretty good. Some of the satire parts were not even that bad, especially when Jason goes to virtual reality Crystal Lake. I laughed myself silly, even though they made Jason looked like a clown. It's too bad Betsy Palmer turned down the part to appear in a cameo in that scene, because it might have redeemed the whole movie a little.

Review: This score is definitely true to the series. Manfredini's upgrade of the original Friday the 13th theme will leave you wanting to hear more. Highly recommended. I love it!
