Review: The movie tells a lot about what went during the turbulent times in South Africa.Sarafina is a South African girl who is part of an anti-segregation group in Soweto, South Africa. She went to a school governed by white soldiers learning only about the white history. Her history teacher secretly taught about how the students could make a difference. Sarafina participate in many dangerous protests where her friends have gotten injured, arrested and even killed. This movie is very educational and would do well in a eighth grade classroom.

Review: This movie is excellent. It's about a young girl, her taecher, and her friends during the apartheid (separation of blacks and whites that ended in the 1980's.) This movie is showing everything from the prisons to the houses.

Review: This movie takes you on such an emotional journey. It's difficult not to become drawn into this film because of its powerful story and characters. It's an awesome story of determination. Not to mention, it's a histrically significant film as well. Anyone interested in stories of social justice should see this film. The characters are extra ordinary and the stories will take you places you'll never have to experience in real life. It's a great movie to watch, but bring tissue!

Summary: movie fails miserably where stage play soars!
Review: This movie was the biggest dissappointment of the early 90's! In an attempt to make it relevant to western viewers, the film makers completely changed the story, the music, and the over-all tone of this important piece of theater. Whoopi, of all people!? Give me a break! She was horrible. And why would you change the most beautiful and powerful South African Township music to sound like African American gospel music? It just didn't work for me at all. If you've only seen the movie version and never had the opportunity to experience Sarafina on stage, you probably won't be able to understand where I'm coming from. Having been blessed with seeing it twice as it toured the country, I can say with out a doubt that the movie version failed miserably where the stage play soared to the highest heights!
