Summary: Disapointing
Review: The story of the persecution of homosexuals in Nazi Germany is one that deserves to be told. It is a pity then that this attempt falls flat with its inability to decide whether it wishes to be a movie or merely a filmed play. Self-consciously stagy, burdened with a tedious, over bearing avant-garde wannabe of a score, and saddled with a script devoid of any nuances, subtleties, or refinement, the film works only as a vehicle that will play only to those already aware of this aspect of this devastating chapter in human history. Nice try. Better luck next time.

Summary: Beautiful acting, powerful subject matter
Review: This film is really an excellent example of drama at its best. After an unfortunate slow, disconnected start, the film picks up considerably in the second half. Then, the acting between the two leads becomes pure genius, and the story fascinating and heart-rending. I watched this film several times in a row, because some of the scenes were so well-done I couldn't believe me eyes. The ending is very poignant, making this a definite must-see film.

Summary: Very dark and splendid
Review: This film was full of darkness and hope. It was hard to see and easy to understand. The acting was great and the script was good. I enjoyed the film. It is not a film to see if you're on a first date but it is a good film to remind us of how good we have it in this day and age. It was a good investment and an addition to my collection.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time!
Review: This has got to possibly be the worst movie I have ever seen! Not only was there no 'anchor' throughout the entire so called plot, there was no realism to the method acting characters themselves. If that wasn't bad enough, the cliches that ran through this one is in every other line! It was too light hearted, emotionally lacking, and sometimes comical. This is a poor portrayal of the Nazi Work-Camps and an insult to the truly evident suffering of those that experienced it. In a word: It's no Shindler's List.

Summary: Powerful and moving
Review: This is absolutely the best film I have ever seen. It is beautifully acted and portrayed. Especially moving to those still fighting interalized homophobia. A+! It should definately be released on video.

Summary: For dedicated homophiles with strong stomachs only
Review: This is the story of the concentration camp inmates forced to wear the pink triangle, symbol of their homosexuality. This film was formerly a successful play and perhaps it succeeded because of its shocking topic, but this director is no Steven Spielberg. Never did I feel one bit of realism or sympathy for the characters although the brutality was unceasing and the story intense. For example, a boxcar scene which might have worked in a play was just too stagy, and the camera lingered much too lovingly over attractive semi-nude male bodies. We've found out by then, of course, that the title, Bent, refers to the shape of the lead character's male organ although there were no camera shots of this. The dialog seemed contrived, the prisoners all looked too healthy and fit, and, while this film might be applauded for handling, at last, a forbidden topic, it just didn't work as a film. Even Mick Jagger, miscast in the role of a drag queen who runs a nightclub in Berlin, just couldn't save it.

Summary: Streets of Berlin
Review: This movie has to be one of the best I have ever seen! Usually you'll see Holocaust persecution of the Jews, but you get to see a rare glimpse of the homosexual hatred inflicted by the Nazis in this film. We are introduced to Max, a handsome man who is enjoying the colorful nightlife of Berlin when a sexual encounter with a soldier puts his life in danger. Caught by the Nazis, he meets Horst on a train heading for one of the concentration camps, a fellow homosexual who shows him how to survive and later how to love. If you're looking for fast paced action and dazzling special effects, go rent some cheesy action flick. Yet if you want to see heart-wrenching drama then this is your movie to see. Mick Jagger also entertains with a colorful performance of "Streets of Berlin."

Review: This movie should be removed from the shelves. It is beyond perverse in nature. Not for anyone, unless you want to explore the extent to which people will go to make what is wrong, seem OK.

Summary: A glimpse into one of the many other stores of the holocust
Review: This movie shows how even those who consider themselves unworthy of love can find in places one would dare not hope to find it. Sometimes when everything else is stripped from you is when you find out what you really are made of. Sometimes when the world is at it coldest and life and God seem not to care how you suffer you find that one glimmer of hope. That one glimpse into the face of God and his mercy. This movie shows how one man went into the death camps believing himself to be one thing and how even in the darkness love found him and proved to him he was always something else.
