Summary: all the marx brothers in one body
Review: most americans don't like subtitles. get over it and see this movie. it is so funny that you'll be sick to your stomach from laughing. and the subtitles come in handy because you'll laugh so loud you won't be able to hear the dialogue anyway. benigni is all the marx brothers wrapped up into one character. he has the cunning and conniving elements of chico, the wit and sarcasm of groucho, and the visual slapstick of harpo. see this movie.

Summary: NEVER SEEN ANYTHING FUNNIER!!!!
Review: Now THIS!!... is what you call a FUNNY MOVIE!!! You have to see it twice just to catch everything!!! Roberto, again, plays a mooching thief (same as the excellent Johnny Stecchino), and is mistaken for a serial killer. Scene after scene, his innocent mishaps suggest his perversion. There is so much fast paced humor, the "grocery store" scene, the dinner party, the chinese interview, the filmed stake-out, chain saw attack, cigarette in pants routine, the chase, the phone call using the TV remote, and more crazy scenes are all brilliant hilarious concepts. The supporting cast with the looney psychiatrist add to the whacky situations. Begnini is a genius at work, and the only comedian to come close to Roberto is the one and only "Barny Fife". It is absolutely the funniest movie I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot!! Begnini, give us more!!!

Summary: I can't ever recall anything funnier than this; it's a riot!
Review: Picture the funniest comedians you know, all in one package and you get the monstrously hilarious Roberto Begnini. It just doesn't get funnier than this. This 1996 foreign movie is actually titled Il Mostro with surprisingly refreshing and extremely hilarious scenes that run continuosly throughout the entire movie. There isn't a dull moment. The film with English subtitles is very easy to read, try it. The problem lies here; you may laugh so hard throughout the entire movie, you will miss a lot, therefore, you need to see it twice.

Catch the Monster in the Act. Also in the movie, a policewoman, Jessica (Nicoletta Braschi, Begnini's real-life wife and frequent co-star) is sent to "catch him in the act" of utterly reprehensible behavior. Loris, always a moocher and thief, is about to lose his apartment and lets her sublet with him. She makes a futile attempt at finding him to be the "perverted monster" that the police believe he is. She how she suggestively attempts to seduce him. To watch Begnini's bewildered face is hysterical as he embarrasingly and innocently tries to ignore the sexual displays.

Cigarette in the Pants. Some creative, situations emerge when, under surveillance, Loris is distracted by the backside of a beautiful shapely woman who bends over to pick something up; he accidently loses his cigarette in his baggy pants. It burns him, in the front - right you know where! He shakes it, pummels it, thrashes and beats it to ease the burning pain. Finally, he pours water on it, and after a great sigh of relief, has to twist and wring the soaking wet spot, (the private area of his pants.) Imagine the videotape that the surveillance camera picks up in its attempt to identify him a pervert.

Try this movie, there are so many creatively humorous scenes, it just doesn't stop. Also, for a great laugh, see Benigni as "Johnny Stecchnio". Excellent good unique humor. ....MZRIZZ

Summary: Laughed so hard that our dog barked at us, joining in!
Review: Roberto B's being anyone's idea of a serial killer is a hilarious premise. Of course, he's really just his usual super klutz self but tell that to the Roman police and their psychiatrist who are convinced he's "the one". RB's real life wife plays a police operative who moves in with him to see if she can get him "to crack" so she can shoot him. Non-stop howling laughter. He reminds us of a combination of a young Charlie Chaplin and a young Woody Allen.

Summary: Watch and laugh!
Review: Roberto Benigni gives his best, as usual. Unfortunately, the other actors and actresses lack his brilliant comic spirit, and they slow the timing of the movie, making you laugh a bit less than expected. By the way, the movie is well connected, and is a mature result of Benigni's directing career. It can be viewed as a style improvement of "Johnny Stecchino"; even if the stories are completely different, they both are shot on a "Comedy of Misunderstandings" base. It is worth watching either movie; you can watch both if you really, really like Benigni.

Summary: Monstrously Funny
Review: Roberto Benigni is irrepressibly hilarious in this movie. I can honestly say that for me there is never a dull moment in the movie, and I have seen it at least five times. An adventerous, cretive crook Loris, played by Benigni, is suspected of being a serial rapist and murderer. The police is closing in on him, using a soulful police detective, Jessica, played by Benigni's real-life wife, Nicoletta Braschi. But Jessica turns out to be a savior for Loris rather than a bait. She falls in love with his sense of humor, imagination, and kindness. In the meantime, the supposed pillars of society--the chief of police, the professor of criminal psychiatry, and the foreign language professor--turn out to be extemely flawed human beings. However, you won't leave this movie hating any of its characters. Probably not even the Chinese professor who, rationally speaking, deserves hatred from a decent human being. The magic of Benigni ensures that you have fun and a chance to reflect, but you never leave his movie with a bad taste in your mouth.

The comic scences in this movie, from beginning to end, are first rate. I have seen movies produced in all kinds of countries--and this one is one of the funniest. If you have not seen it yet, do not miss out any longer and get a copy. And believe me, it is worth seeing more than once.

Summary: A Romantic Comedy in the Serial Killer Genre?
Review: Somehow Begnini has made a warm-hearted, light comedy based on a premise involving serial killings and mistaken identity. While it seems a bit contrived at first, the movie becomes more innovative and entertaining as it progresses. This is definitely worth watching for its memorable characters and its unique brand of humor.

Summary: Funniest of all time
Review: The first time we saw this one we all laughed from beginning to end, from the moment we saw his impish face in the opening "nymphomaniac" scene. We have seen all of Benigni's movies that are available in North America; this is the most consistently funny from beginning to end. Please release the rest of his movies here with subtitles, including the one he does with Troisi, and with the late Walter Matthau!!!!
