Summary: The Funniest Movie I Ever Saw
Review: "The Monster" is the funniest movie I have ever seen in my life, and is much funnier, in my opinion, than "Some Like it Hot," which was rated the funniest movie of all time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A fantastic primer on physical comedy
Review: A fantastic primer on physical comedy. I bought the video dubbed into French, and returned it immediately because it was missing Benigni's hilarious voice inflections. The "Chinese interview scene" is to die laughing from!

Summary: Benigni at his fall-down funny best!
Review: Benigni,a mild mannered school bus driver mistaken for a serial killer, encounters a series of near-disasterous confrontations with police, gangsters and lovely ladies while unknowingly avoiding death. For Benigni fans, a triumph. For all others, a laughfest from start to finish.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: "The monster" is slap-stick silly and full of laughs
Review: definitely one of the funniest movies I've seen recently. Although it was no "La Vita E' Bella" (The best movie of all time) It kept me and my sister rolling on the floor with laughter. It's worth its weight in gold just by the one scene in which he sneeks the beautiful Nicoletta Braschi into his apartment one night. BELLISIMO!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Hilarious!
Review: I agree, this is Benigni at his hilarious best, with a superb supporting cast led by Nicoletta Braschi!

I also agree... WE NEED 'IL PICCOLO DIAVOLO' on video in North America!

Summary: FUNNY !

Summary: Wear Depends if you see this movie
Review: I just saw Il Mostro for the first time last night, and I still can't stop laughing. I guarantee that you will wet yourself if you see this film. Begnini is ingenious when it comes to physical comedy. The premise of the film has been done repeatedly by lesser moviemakers, usually with predictable and less-than-stellar results. Begnini takes the premise, twists it around, and shoots it at you so quickly that you'll have no idea what is going to happen. There are entire sequences that will have you scratching your head at their inclusion, but the payoff that comes later will have you in stitches. There is one extended bit that shows Loris (Begnini's character) walking around the city, committing minor crimes and getting into trouble. Unbenknownst to him, he is being filmed by the police; when the police screen the film, one of the funniest scenes in celluloid history results.

While not in La Vita e Bella's league, the burgeoning genius of Roberto Begnini is already quite evident in this movie. I highly recommend it.

Summary: GREAT SLAPSTICK
Review: I love this sort of silly, lightweight comedy. Like many farces, the comedy comes from the misunderstandings and deceptions between characters. Although the movie is not perfect, it has some hilarious scenes that will leave you gasping for breath.

Benigni reminds me of a speaking version of Harpo Marx. Like Harpo, he is a loveable satyr and trickster. Both men are short and are not handsome, but they have wonderfully expressive faces and are masters of physical humor.

I have seen two other Benigni films: Johnny Toothpick and Life is Beautiful. The Monster and Johnny Toothpick are somewhat similar in style and content, although I prefer the former to the latter. In any case, if you enjoyed one, you probably will enjoy the other. Life is Beautiful is an entirely different sort of movie, deftly blending comedy and drama. Life is Beautiful is an outstanding film, but if that is the only film of Benigni's you have seen, you should understand that the Monster is much less serious and much more crass.
