Summary: Superb
Review: 1 of the best foreign film I've ever seen, though I must add the cinematography + action choreographer is superb, but Mark D, give him more credits (wont be disclosing of the movie here), let him stay longer ;P if you know what i mean.

Summary: Er...ok wait a minute...
Review: All right, lets review this film: a French taxidermist comes with an American Indian who also knows how to do Matrix kung fu and proceeds to hunt down a big bad wolf who is raised by an army of fur trappin' martial art experts.

This film gets positive reviews?

I watched this film with all my heart filled with enjoyment. I WANTED to enjoy this film. But I didn't. It just drags on forever, I thought it was going to end about five times, but then it drags on for another thirty minutes. The fight scenes are too few, and are basically the same thing: good guy fight bad guys, beats 'em up with out a problem. The only fight scenes I liked were the fight with the monster in the middle and the fight where Mani goes into the Brotherhood HQ...mainly because the heroes got beat up in the ensuing rumble as well.

Oh well...then near the end of the film, suddenly, out of the blue, the taxidermist knows how to do Kung Fu too! And he knows how to do it well! And then the main villain uses a Chinese dragonscale sword! OH BOY!!!! Oh wait a minute! This takes place in 18th century France! Aaaaah! Up is down! Black is white! Oh yeah I almost forgot! There's a great, unromantic romance thrown in there, and the most predictable wolf-attack scenes are just used over and over again! Hee hee hee hee what fun!...

So yeah, this was basically a major let down. The French industry obviously thought they could pull off a "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" but they can't pull it off. If they had stuck to true history it may have worked...but they didn't. Sad, really, this film had a lot of potential.

Summary: I never expected this!!!
Review: Brotherhood of the wolf, I had seen the vcr and dvd-cover of it in stores many times, but I thought its' title sounded lame - believing it was another movie of Jet Li karate-kung fu (or whatever he does) -so I always ignored it. Actually I had never heard anything(!) about this movie before until yesterday when for the first time I took a closer look at it in a foodstore (of all places), turned the cover around and red what it was about - of course I knew the legend of the beast, and bought it without the greatest expectation. Watched it, and had I been missing something?! Though not as true perhaps as it's called to be, well, I really couldn't care less about that. It's a masterpiece. Done extremely well! Great acting, great filming, superb settings, fantastic monster. Very scary actually. No, I never expected this. I'm not the kind of person who sees movies for their fight-scenes, but the fighting-scenes in this one must have been put a lot of effort to, and... Yes, the rest you could find out for yourself - just see it! Brotherhood of the wolf is an action-adventure-based on legend-story, and a heaven send epic for you who are like me and enjoy movies about mysterious monsters in the dark places of the world...

Summary: Over the Top Entertainment--It was Good
Review: I ignored a migraine to see this movie in the theater, and I was so glad I did. It was good. It really was.

That doesn't make it perfect. The beginning was a tad bit slow. The plot was just a little thin. Mysterious at times when it didn't need to be; obvious at times when some mystery would have done a little more. (The uncut edition does help resolve a little of the obliqueness.) The cameraman was sometimes just a little too obtrusive in his artistic efforts. And the special effects were sometimes over the top in a bad way. I could have done without seeing the beast at all. But the action was fantastic; the story was engaging; the characters were good. Thin, but good. Cliched, but good. I don't care. It was good.

Although I felt emotionally detached during the first part of the film, I was soon won over to the point that in spite of its flaws I wanted to see it again. Immediately. I don't remember the last time I wanted to see a movie over again at once. Not tomorrow. Not tonight. Today. It was good.

Trivia: Mark Dacascos, who played Mani, is a martial artist whose previous acting credits seemed to peak with playing Eric Draven on the t.v. version of the Crow. Somebody remarked about him in the movie at one point that he didn't seem like an Indian, and he's not. Filipino, Spanish and Chinese, he is. Irish and Japanese, he is. Iriquois he's not. He hails from Hawaii. But he pulls it off. Kudos to Mark Dacascos for scoring a good role and doing well in it.

Vincent Cassel, who played Jean-François de Morangias, was the voice of Robin Hood in Shrek. That's a drop in the bucket for him. He's an incredibly prolific actor.

Did I mention that it was good?

Summary: a breath of fresh air
Review: I liked this movie alot but there are certain problems with it one being its lenght... this movie is WAY tooo long. i wish all movies would cut down there time by atleast 30 minutes to 45 minutes cuz length really isnt an advantage. ANYWAYs this movie is also subtitled which is ok just reading a movie isnt as relaxing and fun as jsut watching one in my opinon. i speak many different languages tho( 4 actually and french being oen of them) so i can watch this movie and relax unlike you mono language people.. :P.

I recommend this movie to all those you like movies that are based on folklore and myths. Its an interesting story and a very good movie but if you are a chick flick gal or gent then skip over this one which you probably could have donewith out me telling you because the cover obviously didnt have a guy and a girl on the front. I also recommend those who dont like subtitles to not take up 143 mintues of there life to read subtitles. to everyone else i recommend this movie because it has its own taint of orginality coming from a different country which is alwasy a nice breath of fresh air after being bombared with charlies angles, x men, spiderman and other overly plain and formula action flicks.

Summary: Excellent Film
Review: I understand people have different opinions on movies, but to say this movie is 'dull' is beyond belief! I can only asume the people saying this are religious and find the movie offensive...or hate the French (American's mostly), hate reading subtitles cause they cannot read very well, or just don't understand the film and prefer Die Hard 3! All fair enough. But if you love a good erotic, mysterious, dark adventure you can't go past this movie. I adored it. Finally something intelligent. Now if you are going to anaylse it ie: how did an Indian learn kung fu etc, you need to take a breath and get a life. 'Oh, but it's a silly fable' etc. Well let me remind you, man-kind read a wee book written a long time ago that said a 'man' walked on water and we all fell for that like a tonne of bricks! Isn't THAT 'far fetched' and silly? Yet I'm refering to the bible!!

Getting back to the main topic, Brotherhood of the Wolf is an intelligent fantasy film with everything you need to love this film. The layers of the movie make it a highly enjoyable watch, and of course Mark Dacascos is brilliant yet again. * Did you know that Vincent Cassel, who plays the sly brother, is married to the beautiful Monica Belluci and they are expecting their first child! Just thought you should know that. Monica plays the mysterious sexy [woman]whore.

Review: In my opinion, BOTW seems better if you watch the director's cut in French audio (and English, or whatever your language is as subtitles). You might also have to cut the makers a bit of slack in their depiction of certain things- but I think it's worth it.

Also 4 or 5 reviews after this one kinda contain spoilers from a seemingly blase/bitter woman (Bloody and boring-save your time and $$, May 31, 2004 Reviewer:  judithjohnson (Memphis, TN)). *I would have been really pissed if I read her review before I saw the movie.*

Review: Kind of the DaVinci Code meets James Fenimore Cooper meets the Hound of the Baskervilles. Set in early 18th century France, the only things it has going for it other than a physically attractive cast in cool costumes is great scenery and beautiful architecture. Starts out with all these frightened, dirty, ugly peasants and that's about where it ends also. In between we have an Anerican Indian who is a better martial artist than Jackie Chan (I know they came over on the land bridge and all that but its a few centuries too soon if you know what I mean), the Catholic church and the royalty as villians and more bright red blood than a Mel Gibson flick. So after watching it for way too long my question is this-Why would a virile adult male pick some milk toast virgin to moon over instead of choosing a hot blooded Italian beauty with the bedrooom skills of a courtesean, the posioning skills of Lucretia Borgia and who is a better fighter than he too boot? Oh well, I only watched it to see Jeremie Renier (La Promesse) as an adult and I am happy to report he has matured very prettily.

Summary: one heck of a kung fu movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: only without the typical kung fu fighters.i really cant believe this came from france.besides inventing the white flag,fries/toast and giving us the staue of liberty, this ranks high on french accomplishments.and to take this to heart, its supposed to be a true or based on a true account.seems that there was an ungodly beast on a mutilating rampage.in comes 2 hunters, well actually, gardeners,on a fact/beast finding mission.the talkitive one(this is an elegant, kickass version of jay and silent bob)is intent on debunking the legend.while the silent sidekick truely believes in its existance being that hes so in tune with nature.while this does have moments of dullness(this has the to be expected love interest angle),for the most part its chock full of action.the duo soon encounter the beast and have to figure a way of trapping it.the beast seems to be a huge wolf with impenitrible armor fur and tusks.there seems to be an underlying layer of evil controlling the beast and that is now another headache they must conquere.fight not only the beast but what controlls it.they devise a trap and almost capture it.while doing so,the silent one stumbles onto the lair.there he meets his end.now the gardener is really pist!from there on out,its pure mayhem.my summarization may be all over the place but i think you get the gist.theres a ton of extras but i rarely watch them.this is one of the few titles worth the price.
