Summary: Entrancing
Review: I was absolutly captivated by this movie! I had to watch it several times just to begin to take in every subtlty within it and still have much to catch. Wu and McGregor are fantastic! It was a unique erotic blend of the beauty of art and the grotesque of reality.

Summary: In both execution and content, this film is well made.
Review: Like the best poetry, THE PILLOW BOOK is at first beautiful and perplexing, leading the viewer with care and grace toward the object of its philosophy. In several ways, THE PILLOW BOOK closely resembles the Shinto sensibilities of Japanese fables which are generally pithy, grave, and wholly removed from the penitent guilt surrounding the Biblical understanding of sin. Therefore, while the actions of its cast will not compare with the hypocritical prudery surrounding Western morality, they are nonetheless noteworthy. For though issues of justice and vengeance are apparently universal, the style of their satisfaction varies. It is the novelty of this variance which is the principle attraction of any film, and in this domaine, THE PILLOW BOOK does not disappoint. This film makes a refreshing departure from the tedious contexts which blight Mr. Greenaway's precedent efforts, (several of which are utterly without substantive tendency) and earns the honour of my high regard.

Summary: Beautiful and Empty
Review: Just like most Hollywood product! This film is notable for allowing us unobstructed views of a wholly naked (and well-off) Ewan McGregor. Otherwise, its pretentious skin-deep imagery simply numbs.

Summary: Visually Breathtaking
Review: I only got to see part of the film but what I saw was absolutly stunning. Ewan McGregor is always a pleasure to watch and he gives one of his best roles yet as Jerome. Definetly one I would watch again and again.

Summary: A beautiful looking film!
Review: This is one of the best PG films. Visually, his movies are always stunning, and this is no exceptions. Wonderful experimentation of frame within frame. Especially effective during the wedding scene and the listing of things from the pillowbook journal. The calligraphy on naked bodies are also gorgeous. Surprising humour with each different book (person). Greenaway is not skittish about holding back, which may turn some people off. Other PG filsm reconmended: The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover. The draftman's contract. Drowning by number. Propspero's books. the baby of macon. belly of the architect.

Summary: Artists and literature fans, this is for you.
Review: Visually stunning, amazing soundtrack, fantastic imagery. This movie has some homosexual content, but must be taken in context and does not destroy the overpowering messages and beauty of this work. Best kept secret in filmmaking, you will not be disappointed. International flavor from Japan, Hong Kong, UK, even some French music and lyrics. Simply superb.

Summary: Pillow Book, fascinating, mesmerizing, different.
Review: This movie has to be my favorite, and all this time I thought I would stick with Joy Luck Club. It's true, this [Pillow Book] turned out to be a very erotic film, but tastefully done. The way the entire movie was filmed was so beautiful (being a photographer), it just melted in with the plot. It was a bit confusing and hard to follow, but paying attention is well worth it. After watching this movie I wanted to find someone to write on me.

Summary: Completely Vanguard Cinema
Review: Simply the best movie I've seen, from of course Peter Greenaway, magical, with a totally new exploration of visual coherence, a contemporary sublime, a total evolution from one of the world's best directors. This movie will change the classic thought and way of movie making.
