Summary: A Man and A Woman
Review: The original movie, which was the winner of the '66 Cannes Film Festival, was MAGNIFICENT in its original language. The English ruins the effect of the entire enxperience. Seeing it in French (with English subtitles)was magic along with the French lyrics to the accompanying music. The terrible "tonality" of the voices on the dubbed version cheapens the experience and makes it a totally different, flatter movie, and not nearly as romantic and sensual.

Please advise viewers if a new version containing French language (English Subs), and French music comes along. That would be wonderful!!!! Because I, for one, have NEVER forgotten the romance of this movie.

Summary: Memorable
Review: When it first came out in '66, "A Man and a Woman" in its original form, left quite an impression on me. Sensitive, romantic, stylish, it embodied the essence of love and life "a la française." Unfortunately, the English dubbed version is an atrocity, losing every ounce of the subtlety, charm and humor of the French language version. It infuriates me that it has never been available in its native language. Would love to see it on DVD.Some may call it dated, but the musical score is classic, and the moody editing was groundbreaking then and still refreshing now, a lush love affair between music and visuals.

Summary: Put the French back in!
Review: I agree with so many others in that dubbing this movie into any other language, especially dubbing the songs, is like taking the goat cheese out of the goat cheese salad. It is an atrocity.

Would anyone please tell me from where I can get the version in French? I tried every site on the net, with no success.

Summary: Snore!
Review: I rented this video based on the wonderful things I had heard about it, and I enjoy exploring the classics. I honestly have no idea why this is a classic, or why it is so beloved. What it is is a great cure for insomnia.

Summary: Wonderful - One of a kind
Review: Here we are, at the beginning of 2000, as when I first saw this movie in 1966, it still sends wonderful warm thoughts in my head....beautifully romantic, and something you will not forget, like Love is a Many Splendored Thing....

Summary: Cut!
Review: That's what the editors of this version did - they cut at least two of the most moving scenes from the original French language, English sub-titled edition. Additional scenes were jaggedly removed, often disrupting the natural and graceful flow of the original. Was this an edited-for-television version? Why not offer the original movie theater version? That 5-star masterpiece was reduced to 3-stars by the hacked editing and average dubbing. If you've not seen it before, you will enjoy this version much more.

Summary: C'est une film classique
Review: This movie is one of my favorites! The cinematography is excellent and will they ever release the French with English subtitles version? The voice of Anouk Aimee's (Anne Gauthier) daughter in the film sounds like an adult trying to sound like a child, and that's probably what happend. And how about when you see the stuntman (Pierre the deceased husband) singing (bad dubbing)? The soundtrack is superb, acting is great, and this is an all around wonderful film.

Summary: The NON-DUBBED version of this film is MAGNIFIQUE!
Review: "A Man and a Woman" is beautiful and magnificent...in French, with English subtitles. I must also recommend Francis Lai's haunting soundtrack, which is incredibly romantic. The English-dubbed version of the film, however, is downright irritating and ultimately disappointing. Please make the subtitled version available soon. Merci.

Summary: A GOOD MOVIE IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE.
Review: A TERRIBLE MOVIE IN DUBBED VERSION. WHY DOESN'T ANYONE SEEM INTERESTED IN SELLING A SUB-TITLED VERSION?
