Rating: Summary: Changed My Life Review: I saw this movie when it first came out in the theater, and it changed my life. The struggle of apartheid is fought by one english boy who is determined to make a difference. It is an inspiring and exhilirating, yet heartrenching story. I would highly recommend it for any young person over the age of 12 and every adult. It is a must see!
Rating: Summary: A Movie that does its book justice. Review: Well, I want to say, I read the book first. As happens many times with me, I didnt actually know there was a movie. I read the book (and its subsequent POWERFUL sequel, Tandia) by Bryce Courtney, only to find out they turned the book into a movie. I meet this with skeptisism as I have been burned this way before. However, to my surprise, the video does a great justice to book. They are very similar, however, the video will only whet your appetite. around 40% of the book is left out of the movie, some of these parts significant. I seriously reccomend that you get the video, AND the book so you can do youself the best favor possible. And do yourself another favor while you are at it. Get the book 'Tandia' and read what happens after. You wont regret it.
Rating: Summary: compelling and suspenseful, this film changed my life Review: I first saw this movie when I was nine years old. I'm not sure how old or new it was at the time, I guess it was about a year old. At first. I wasn't expecting to love this movie as much as I do now. I watched it and was horrified of the content, yet entertained and moved by the compelling message that it offers. This is a must see for anyone who is against racial profling and bigotry and wants to change the world, yet doesn't believe that they have what it takes.
Rating: Summary: A Surprising Revelation Review: At the young age of sventeen my knowledge of true hatred and oppression has been limited to the idle teasings and empty remarks of teachers, classmates, and others. And, despite the attempts of inspired and well-informed teachers in through out both my grammar school and high school years, reading in a text book that slavery and racism are bad and seeing pictures of black and white water fountains, all these descriptions seem vague and distant. Such removed visuals don't do the problem justice."The Power of One" is a vivid look into the realities of segregation and racism and even more frightening is that such horrors were implemented by the government, the institution which we often take for granted as a protective body. The acting at times was a bit sappy and the female lead was not the most stirring or attractive actress, but there was emotion and rebellion to make up for the short comings. It is important to remember that there are graphic scenes of violence and quite a few gory deaths, but they are not used gratuitously but to truly emphasize the evils of such practices.
Rating: Summary: A MOST EXCELLENT FILM!!! Review: This film should be required viewing for all early teens in schools. It drives home the point of prejudice, and how cruel some people really can be to their fellow human beings - a real eye opener to the injustices in this world, and especially in South Africa, though it has been also witnessed in the southern U.S. as well, and is still slowly coming around there. A wonderful bit of acting - and an exceptional story. Truly a must in a school library, and a home library. I will be purchasing a copy for my children's school.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding film! Review: This was one of the most extrodinary films that no one ever saw. It's so unfortunate that it's marketing was bungled when it came out in 1992, because the story, the acting, the direction, the soundtrack and the script are all superb. Stephen Dorf leads an outstanding cast that shows not just the power of one person to make a difference, but the power we all possess when we come together as one.
Rating: Summary: This is my all time favorite movie! Review: This is one of the most powerfull films ever made, the actors are supreme, and the music is sublime. There are not enough words in the English vocabulary for me to express my love of this movie. The story is timeless, and the people seem so very realistic. I highly recommend this movie to anyone with a brain!
Rating: Summary: DANJUR's REVIEW Review: This was a great movie that deserves 5 stars and two thumbs up! It was truly inspiring and a wonderful story. The plot was filled with emotion, trimumph, loss, and grief. The olny falt i found was i didn't like the actor who played the lead's best friend ,I thought he could have done a better job. In all and all it was a great movie and I hope you take something out of it.
Rating: Summary: '' THE POWER OF ONE "A TRULY INSPIRING MOVIE Review: This movie was an excellent portral of P.K's life and work. I can't think of enough words to describe this movie. The actors, setting, scenery and all other asspects of this movie were wonderful.I think this was a truly inspiring tale we should all learn from his example. I felt sadness for the ways he had to endure all the hardships of his life, but triumphed in the end. I did not like the man who played his best friend I thought he could have played the roll a bit better. I did not like the apartheid issue in South Africa. I thought it was a bit disturbing. I think the acctors and directors deserved an Oscar. One warning I do not reccomend this movie fo young children or people who can't stand gruesome scenes. On a final note I think this was an inspiringmovie and we should all use are "Power of One".
Rating: Summary: The BEST Movie Ever! Review: Hello! This movie I think should be recomended to everybody. It's about a boy who loses many, many people in his life. He goes through a hard time and doesn't even complain(well, maybe a little). This movie is the best movie I've ever seen. The actors, actresses, & plot are the best and I'm surprised they don't give it an award. I think they should give it a sequel because this movie is the most intriguing and dramatic movie I've ever seen. It has all the things a good plot would need. Watch this movie to find out!
