Summary: The worst movie I have seen this year.
Review: This movie doesn't deserve ONE star. I haven't seen anything this stupid in a long time. The movie has been compared to The Matrix and The 13th Floor. The Matrix was excellent and The 13th Floor at least had a decent storyline. Maybe I can auction my DVD on ebay or use it as a coaster.

Summary: Another Matrix-wannabe clone...
Review: Well, all the "makes the matrix look like child's play" and "thumbs up" dont really apply here... I mean - it's a nice movie, completely weird and it really gives you no clue or room to speculate on what's going on; but then again it doesnt show anything new...

Summary: same movie, again.
Review: I love Cronenberg films. The man has an obsession and each of his movies is an expression of his returning to the same ideas. Only with each telling there are additional leaps of concept and refinements. Think of his body of work as a mini-series. Sit down one day and watch them all, uninterrupted, one after the other, in chronological order. Try to go about your life as you did the day before, ever again. So, about eXistenZ. Enjoy the movie and afterward think about making a movie that better expresses the concept of game, within game, within game. How would that world look? What would the experience be like? Who would these people be and how would they act? Watch it again, and again, and again, and again. Put some lube in your bioport. Enjoy the psychosis.

Summary: Typical David Cronenberg - mutations, human flesh, reality .
Review: Excellent movie - to be taken with a big grain of salt - Jennifer Jason Leigh is outstanding - her typical unusual characterization - thought provoking.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I'm a devoted David Cronenberg fan and he has never put out a movie that was below his capabilities. His last film Crash was a disturbing look at the human fscination with sex and violence. Brilliantly done with style and mastery. Dead Ringers is another brilliant film about the slow and painful process of the debasement of the human mind and soul. This film reminds me of Cronenberg's earlier works such as Scanners and Videodrome. But this movie comes across more polished and with a bigger budget. I admire Cronenberg's ability to send moral lessons in his endless flowing creativity. Where Videodrome attacked the television, eXistenZ takes on videogames. His grim portrait of an empty and thoughtless society that relies on technology to passify their thirst for excitement and fill their everyday lives. Cronenberg's supreme direction along with great acting and a wonderfully twisted ending make this a treat for one's imagination and definitley ranks as one of Cronenberg's finest, along side of Videodrome and, the greatest film of all time, Naked Lunch.

Summary: Dig this movie!
Review: I loved "The Matrix", but fast realized that this wasn't anything like that movie. Ok, it's about people experiencing other lives then their own, getting away from reality for a while, but how long, and what's real and what isn't? This are the main questions in this sci-fi flick. A gorie movie, typical for Cronenberg. This one is more like the earlier, better films (except for naked Lunch that I also love) that he made, and it's here he should be. A terrific movie, with a superb final, that will make for some good discussions with your friends for quite some time. More brains then "The Matrix", less action, but a "wonderful" movie. See it, that's an order!

Summary: Best bit is the movie trailor!
Review: If you've seen the movie trailor then you've seen the best bits of the movie. The rest is of it is just garbage. I was very dissapointed.

Summary: Game-drome
Review: Cronenburg has updated "Videodrome" for the 90's...instead of the videotape inserted into people, substitute a videogame cable.

There are a few interesting, but not unique philosophical points, such as the ever popular sci-fi concept "Am I still dreaming?", and a more subtle point about the amount of free will in the world (found in a quickly tossed off line).

These ideas might make the film look to some people to be "more intelligent" than The Matrix, but that is because they only saw the very sophisticated up-front special effects and "action" in The Matrix, and didn't notice its philosophical points, which are both more subtle and more important than those found in eXistenZ.

And, after 20 years, I'm getting tired of Cronenburg's use of punky repulsiveness as a sort of "special effect", ie as something to capture the attention of the viewer.

Summary: One WEIRD movie
Review: My roomate and I watched this movie, and we turned it off after the first 30 minutes because it was like stupid. But we gave it another shot, and in the end, you kinda wonder what happened. The movie starts out really slow, and just starts throwing in characters, so after a while, you start losing track of who is who. This movie pretty much sucked until the end, when you find out what the movie was about, and the ending leaves a lot of questions unanswered. This movie HAD some possibilities, but the premise was like WAY too out there, and the script was pretty weak.

Summary: matrix killer
Review: Personally, I didn't like Matrix... but I LOVED this. It's very smart... and away from norm. This is to brains as Matrix is to action. ... but it's very obvious... this film isn't for everyone.
