Summary: THE PAST IS NOT THROUGH WITH YOU
Review: A movie that I, myself have been waiting for. Hidden themes, unveiling of an extraordinary plot, and the correlation of all the actions and words out of a character to build up to one of the most mind-shattering and heart-moving endings that a movie could possibly offer. The cinematography is perfect, used to enhance each moment of this drama. The screenplay is no doubt the best that I have seen in movies where the director tried to weave the lives of many individuals to exploit a plot that we could all learn from. The acting is the best that Tom Cruise, philip baker hall, john c. reilly, and Julianne Moore have ever performed, and just seeing them will tear down your hearts. The musical score and soundtrack for the movie is practically award-deserving. The music itself seems as if it's the tenth character, moves us with every notch and downfall. This movie, one of my favorites, is not to be missed. Watch it with an open mind and look hard and try to reveal for yourself the true theme. Whatever ridiculous thing may happen that will make you wonder in stupidity, just try to see how it correlates with the plot. If you do this successfully, you will find that Magnolia is the best movie you have ever seen.

Summary: An Epic!
Review: PT Anderson has done it again! After Hard Eight and Boogie Nights, he has again pulled off one of the best dramas I've seen. The characters are real, the story is compelling and the acting is out of this world. To anybody who likes a good story, this is your movie. Clocking in at over 3 hours this is perfect to watch on a rainy day or cuddled up in bed at night.

Summary: Outstanding Film
Review: Magnolia is a fantastic film and received great treatment on this DVD. The only problem I have with this great disc is that, like Columbia's Dr. Strangelove disc, the packaging gives away the climax/ending. Luckily for me, I didn't even notice it the first time I rented it. I just thought I'd forewarn.

Summary: Modern Day Shakespeare!
Review: I made the mistake of listening to the bad reviews in the press (again) and didn't see this in the theater. When will I learn?

This movie is fantastic! Incredibly complex, yet it all fits together. Paul Thomas Anderson is a brilliant director (and scriptwriter.) A lot of people say Tom Cruise was robbed for not getting the Oscar but I think many of the actors and actresses had oscar-worthy performances, most notably Julianne Moore and Melora Walters. Most ridiculous is the fact that American Beauty won Best Picture over this film.

Some people complain that it's *too* complex (or too long). Yes, it is long. Have you ever read a book that was so good that you had to pick it up and read it again later just to pick up all the parts that you missed? This is what you are going to find once you watch this movie. There are so many scenes and hidden messages that you won't catch until the second or third time around - it almost feels like you're watching two different movies.

I really wanted to, but couldn't give it five stars due to a couple problems that kept it from achieving "perfection". Without giving away everything, there was a part in the movie where everyone was singing - cheezy and completely out of place in my opinion although some may disagree. (The frog scene on the other hand was great!) There was another scene where a cop lost his gun while shots are being fired at him. He's trying to stay hidden to avoid getting shot, while at the same time he's yelling out loud to himself and shining the flashlight everywhere, thereby giving away his position and possibly getting himself killed. Doesn't make sense.

That said, I'm not trying to discourage you in any way from seeing this film. On the contrary, you might as well buy it since you'll have to rent it two or three times to grasp everything in it. And, by the way, if you like this movie you'll probably like Boogie Nights too - that is, if you can deal with the subject matter.

Summary: Good Buy
Review: The movie simply tells stories of people that are all semi-connected, ala Pulp Fiction. The movie itself is good and enjoyable to watch. You start to become very interested in the people's stories and just want to see more, hoping it won't end, although the movie is long. The thing is that you might not be too into watching it over again too soon, because it is long and carries a lot of dialogue. The extras are great though and are worth the purchase alone. The extra with Tom Cruise's character is just so funny, you will want to show everyone it. You have never seen Tom this way, it is great, I have watched that extra over and over. The DVD comes in a nice layout also and altogether is a good buy.

Summary: What the?
Review: I'm sorry, but I must be missing the point to this movie. Everything in it is a major downer. There's not a single bit of comic relief in the whole movie, and there was just no point to it. And could someone please explain what the raining frogs had to do with anything? Maybe I need to see it again because I certainly don't get it.

Summary: Every Actor, Every Scene, Every Second... Brilliant!!
Review: How the Hell did the Academy chose which actors to nominate for this film, that would have driven me crazy. If you look at the cast list, you'll obviously see alot of exceptionally talented actors. And if you watch the film, you'll be shocked to see that nearly every one of them is also in their best role. Tom Cruise, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Phillip Baker Hall, John C Reilly, William H Macy. They are all (once again) Phenominal. The opening 5 minutes of the film is also one of the greatest openings i've ever seen.. Ever. Did I mention that the middle and the End are also brilliant, It really is a great film. If your still sceptical.. See it anyway, at over 3 hours, your bound to find something you like.

Summary: Beautifully constructed
Review: A lot of movies try to weave together many plotlines, and most fail at some point. Usually a weak link causes the whole thing to collapse. "Magnolia" does not suffer from this problem, and as the movie goes on, it only becomes more and more riveting, as connections between characters unfold. The storytelling is first-rate, and at no point, does one thread become more interesting than all the others. So there is no disappointment when the scence changes. This movie has a lot to say about the role of chance in one's life, and about how much of what we do is really our own choice. The ending is both funny and surprising, and will most likely cause you to think about it for days. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie that caused me to do that.

Summary: Great movie, if you like P.T. Anderson
Review: If you like P.T. Anderson's style in "Boogie Nights" you will surely like "Magnolia" as well. Yes, it's a long movie, but it is put together well; with great symbolism and meaning. Granted the story line is a tad unrealistic, but it makes it nonetheless enjoyable. This 2 disc DVD is a nice set, with a bunch of extras including trailers, missing scenes and some interview stuff as well. It's worth picking up just for Tom Cruise's performance!!!

Summary: Visually beatiful, but...
Review: ...overall deceiving. I think this is another example (like Matrix and others) of an amazingly produced movie with almost no content at all. Maybe visual effects are a new form of art in itself, but I wish movies were still "movies", in the first place.
