Summary: Unromantic - but interesting
Review: A confrontational film - not just because of its more explicit sex scenes (but this is no porno). It is in fact so explicit that my country (Australia) banned it for a short time.

A woman (Caroline Ducey) bares all in her search for love - but the love of her life doesn't notice her, even when she is being very intimate with him, so she finds sexual relief from Paolo, played by real-life continental porn-star Rocco Siffredi.

Caroline Ducey goes through quite a lot for her role!

I have to say it again; it is confrontational. In this respect it's similar to the Italian film Guardami, and another French film, Baise Moi (both of which I have also seen - the former is about a porn star who discovers she is terminally ill, the later is like an over sexed over violent version of Thelma & Louise, but is in fact a very poor film).

Summary: Heavily edited
Review: I saw this movie at a film festival, and it was intended to drive home a point by shocking the viewer. A woman is upset by the lack of love she is recieving from her boyfriend so she looks elsewhere, and gets herself into a few uncomfortable situations. There are some graphic sex scenes which are a little bit unsettling.

The version available here is so heavily edited (an entire scene that is crucial to the plot is missing, and others are zoomed in to avoid nudity) that you will fail to see the point the film is trying to make. Skip it.

Summary: Not Erotic at all!!
Review: The prview for this movie advertised a erotic journy through female sexuality, and as a woman I feel this is definatly wrong I don't think very many sane women fanatize about being raped by a bum in any real way other than one of thoes passing disgusting thouts that pop into our heads every now and then. The boyfriend charactor in this film is appaling a control freak looking for an emotionless incubator. There is nothing even slightly erotic about this movie even watching recording of actual sex acts any possible eroticism is drained by the main charactor's apart dis-intrest. The part showing rape and a gang medical exams rid me of any sympathy I felt for the main character because not only did she set these things up she welcomed and enjoyed them. Also the only time I ever want to see the graphic closeup of a baby being born is if I rent a birthing tape. I am now wondering if I really want children that bad.

Summary: A great depiction of growth and self discovery
Review: This is a slow-paced, beautiful, and emotionally intense film.
I agree with most of the statements made by some of the other reviewers about this movie not being about sex. However, I have more thoughts: I think this film is actually about a girl discovering herself and discovering trust (a prelude to real love), through sexual experience...Her changes are profound enough to account for her more extreme (non-sexual) actions and experiences in the last
1/4 or so of the film.
It is interesting that in the U.S.A. sex is not really viewed as a legitimate medium or experience for real change and especially real love to occur. Usually sex is presented as the afterthought of real love, which itself comes about through many shared non-sexual experiences. Here, trust and love come about as the result of sex. And why not?? Sex is also an experience.....This is a very successful, emotional presentation.

Summary: The most boring movie I have ever seen
Review: This movie is not erotic at all. It is slow and boring. The most erotic part of the package is the picture on the box. I don't recommend it to anyone who has something better to do, like watching soap operas.

Sorry about it, Amazon, nothing personal. But I am dissapointed that I bought this movie, watched it once, and WILL throw it in the trash. I suggest Amazon provide a better way for us to find movies on its site. Unfortunately all the reviews I read about this movie were completely wrong. "An Eyeful" what a joke. Teaches me a lesson: don't trust what is written in the back of the boxes.

Summary: A Brillent Film Not For Everybody
Review: Catherine Breillat's Hunting Masterpiece Romance Reminds me so much of films like Bernardo Bertoluccie's Last Tango In Paris And Stanly Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut witch are two films I love. But This film has a little of both witch makes the film differnt from the other to. I like the movie its not entertaning but its not suppose to be it is suppose to be truthful, Hunting, Erotic, and Artistic thats what its suppose to be. This is a masterpiece and a very good movie. This movie is very graphic and is not for most people. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Summary: Amazing Moments
Review: I must say that this movie is so far removed from American conception of moviemaking. The pace, the ideas, the excessive nudity and graphic moments, even childbirth, it is all so alien in presentation. Yet, what an interesting movie, just because it IS so far removed. I wish there were more movies like this one. Movies that make you grab your head and say "Where the hell do these people live?" Full of unloving moments and relationships, highly sexualized moments, that are so far from Romantic, and yet this beautiful sweet woman, the birth of a child, a reality about a dream, with a reality that might have been one. Oh well, that is enough. By the way the title is a play, it is not about kiss and hug romance, or even the search for it.

Summary: Well......Uh.....
Review: This is quite a depressing movie, i've got to say. The title "Romance" is an almost humorous irony, especially after having seen the film: being that I cannot really describe what the movie is REALLY about, I will have to leave it up to you, the movie-watching audience, to decide for yourself. My under-qualified interpretation is that it is a tale about a fairly average woman who, suffocating in a sex-less and purposeless relationship with her boyfriend, goes on some kind of sexual and emotional pilgrimage....all in all, the movie's focus is on sex, emotions, and inner conflict: it's seen from a very psychological standpoint. There is very little information on the people themselves, and you are often left wondering how events get from point A to point B.
This is a quite graphic film, at least for a movie that is readily available not as pornography or even shock art, but as an independent film. There are a lot of bare organs and naked parts, so be warned. I wouldn't really call the movie pornographic, and here's why: there's no sex in this film. While there may be scenes with sexual content, the manner in which the main character portrays herself as disinterested and actually miserable during the love-making process, leaves me to feel that this is merely an artistic portray of sex as a form of punishment and self-loathing, for the way in which the woman in the film pursues literal strangers and engages in cold and purposeless intercourse, is, in my opinion, not at all what I would call sex. Sex, to me, is an emotional, energetic, enlightening experience, something to be enjoyed. The main character is actually seeking out to torture, punish, destroy herself, by engaging in random sex acts, as well as various bondage scenes. This is not erotic at all: it is frightening, even horrifying at times. What i'm getting at is that this movie is very depraved and often depressing to a great point.
The main character is, in my opinion, the least appealing of the film. She's just so....drab, gloomy, and saddening. The older man in the film is an interesting guy, mainly because he portrays himself as 'the ugly guy who gets all of the chicks by being smooth', full of lines about his sexual conquests and about basically everything else he can get in, yet can also be warm and considerate. The boyfriend is basically a jerk who thinks too highly of himself, and yet thinks that he knows everything there is to know about women, while ironically he is the purpose that his lover is so frustrated, because he DOESNT understand her at all.
About the scenes: the shots are long, brooding, often without dialog, and there's one scene in particular, where the woman is tied up, and is drowning in a state of misery, which you can see in her sad and defeated eyes. I was shocked and disturbed through-out much of the film.
The translation and the subtitles are perhaps the worst feature, if you don't include the fact that the DVD has absolutely no extras whatsoever (unless you consider that the disc itself is the 'directors cut', which I don't think of as an extra, but a necessity). The dubbing itself is fine, the main character's voice actor is quite good, while some of the male 'partners' voices are a little on the stupid side, perhaps from the ridiculous lines that they utter. The most bothersome feature is that the subtitles are almost completely different than what is being spoken.
All in all, it is a deep film, without the characters themselves really being very deep: the subject matter, the thoughts and feelings portrayed not through words but through gestures....it's quite an artsy film. I'd say, if you are into movies which leave you feeling reeled-over from shock and disgust, but also to a degree enlightened, i'd say go for it. Again, I warn you that there is a lot of nudity in the film, as well as strong language.

Summary: Ouch, this movie is exceptionally ...[bad]
Review: I was fooled by the 3 stars the movie rating had been before i bought it. Dont buy it! It's not worth the money or the time you will spend watching it.
Anybody can write a plot like that. ...There is no soundtrack to this thing. There were times i could not take the voice of the main character anymore and had to fast forward.
