Summary: This movie is EXCELLENT in EVERY way!
Review: This is one of the best movies I've ever seen! Gerard Depardieu was born to act as Cyrano! Unlike the older versions of Cyrano, this movie actually makes you love Cyrano! I just love the way they introduced Cyrano to us... at first we only heard his voice and then we saw him! Such a brilliant movie! The actors are all great, the costumes are excellent, the background of the movie is just perfect, and the whole movie is EXCELLENT! I actually watched this movie for more than 10 times, day after day I watched this movie over and over again, and I would still watch it again if I had time! You can never get bored of this movie... each time you watch it, you discover a new marvelous thing about this movie! Even if you don't know French (such as me), you'd just love it! I have never enjoyed watching a foreign movie, because I hate reading what they are actually saying... but this movie is an exception! The poems that Cyrano recites are enough to make you love this movie! You all have to watch this movie... you'll never be sorry!

Summary: What's not to love?
Review: Cyrano is the role Depardieu was born to play. Anne Brochet's character development as Roxane is lovely. The costumes, sets, music and cinematography are impeccable. Even the subtitles have a literary flair reminiscent of Rostand's poetic play. Run, do not walk, to the shopping card and get yourself a copy of this film!

Summary: Chouette
Review: Depardieu is wonderful in this lavish swashbuckler love story. This film is beautifully shot and remains perhaps the most convincing video version of the book; unfortunately, the dying scene at the end drags on ludicrously; this is the only dramatic flaw in an otherwise fine movie.

Summary: Hopelessly Romantic
Review: Hopelessly, hopelessly poetic and romantic. Rappeneau is a genius in making such kind of French movies. This is a story that can only happen in a time frame when honor, sacrifice, horism and romance still matters. And French is the best language to express these feelings in such a poetic and elegant way.

If you love this moview, I bet that you would also fell in love with Rappeneau's "Horseman on the Roof" . I wish I could get a copy of this vieotape, or even better, a DVD version.

Summary: Misogynists! The Prosecution Rests
Review: The Instructions are simple. In a delightful setting, when honor, wit, and chivalry still MEANT a damned thing in society, there stood Cyrano. "Roxanne"...Steve Martin... has nothing to do with this movie, as far as I'm concerned the movie does not exist. The character however is very much present and alive even in today's society..."sometimes I run...sometimes I hide...sometimes I'm scared that you'll...A copy of this film shood stand next to one of Nietzsche's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and Roger Waters' "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking."

Summary: Una obra maestra
Review: La obra de Rostand es sin lugar a dudas un gran clásico de la literatura. Rappeneau como director y Depardieu en el rol protagónico, logran expresar todo el sentimiento de la obra con una calidad fílmica inmejorable.

Summary: the beauty of the play
Review: the beauty of this play is that is is a very tragic story. Cyrano was a man of wit, poetry, and romance. He fell in love with a woman who adored poetry. He was also ugly and he was so hard on himself for it and thought that no woman could ever want him. Even when he knew that roxanne loved only the poetry, he still felt that she would reject him and ended up never telling her until the end of his life. What makes it so very sad is that in the play you see such passionate romance created by Cyrano, yet he never was able to take her for he was so afraid that his ugliness would turn against him.

Summary: Magnifique!!!
Review: I loved this movie from the first time I saw it. I liked it so much, that I went rightaway to buy Edmond Rostand's book. Gerard Depardieu is perfect in his role of Cyrano, a man with a huge nose, but an even bigger heart. Costumes, art direction, photography, acting, are all excellent. I highly recommend it, but be aware that you'll need tissues...
