Rating: Summary: The best movie that I've ever seen. Review: I bought this movie without knowing what to expect, I have never been touched by a movie so much before. Forget Titanic, this is as real as love gets. The story however does not have the same concept as love between two strangers; in this case, it is about love between a brother and his little sister. The little boy looses her sister's shoes; they are so poor that the parents cannot afford to buy a new pair for her. They decide to keep it a little secret between them. The little boy feels so sad that he lost her sister's shoes, so he is determined to recover them; he does everything possible so her little sister is happy. Throughout the movie you can see the incredible amount of love that they have among each other. The movie takes place in Iran, so the movie is subtitled in English. But you do not have to look at the words at the bottom of the screen to understand what the message of the movie is. I recommend this movie to anyone. It will touch you so deeply inside your heart.
Rating: Summary: Lessons for all members of the family Review: This video is well done and one for all members of the family to see, ponder, and discuss. I am a teacher and plan to show it in my Special Education classroom around Thanksgiving time as well. The lessons about sharing and caring will be especially meaningful to my students at that time of the year. In the meantime, I am showing it to everyone who is visiting my family this summer and will soon share it at a video night with my book club. The child actors are amazing. The story reminds us that we are all brothers and sisters -- Children of Heaven. Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Children Of Heaven Review: Even in a land where parents are ruled by duty and devotion, the simplest problems of their children can become mind-boggling. Majid Majidi creates a dizzying dramatic farce out of a tattered pair of shoes, and takes us on a great ride through a wonderful and ancient culture with characters that are fearlessly believable. Tenderness and mercy are the most precious prizes.
Rating: Summary: work of art Review: The wonderful Iranian film, "Children of Heaven," and its companion piece, "The White Balloon", remind one of those great Czechoslovakian films of the 1960's ("The Shop on Main Street" and "Loves of a Blonde" etc.) in that they achieve their artistry by providing keenly observed glimpses into the minutiae of everyday life. They also help to humanize a culture often regarded as alien and even incomprehensible to western eyes. Above all, this magnificent film reminds us that real drama comes not in the form of overplotted special effects laden extravaganzas, but from films that examine the universal simplicities of life as we all know it. When it is distilled through the eyes of a poet - this is when art is achieved."Children of Heaven" has its roots planted firmly in the neorealist tradition. Its simple story echoes not merely the earlier "The White Balloon" but the original Italian classic, "The Bicycle Thief." In this film, young Ali accidentally loses his sister's recently mended shoes; out of this tale of utmost simplicity, the filmmakers take us on a fascinating tour of life in a typical Iranian village and family. As Ali and his sister scheme to overcome this obstacle, the film touches on any number of universal themes: the close ties of siblings united in their common bond of avoiding often irrational parental anger; well meaning, loving parents overwhelmed with the trials of everyday life who are often compelled to act out in ways that seem cruel to the children who adore them; the petty viciousness with which children often strike out at each other, yet, at the same time, the often unexpectant kindness and empathy with which they also treat one another. The film manages to keep the audience constantly engrossed in its action without once resorting to even a smidgen of incredibility or melodrama. Beautifully directed, with a superb soundtrack filled with heightened naturalistic noises, it is a film of many-splendored wonders, its lyricism caught in a glimpse of soap bubbles floating around a backyard produced by two children abandoned to their moment of incomprehensible youthful joy, its high drama found in a shoe racing down a city sewer with a desperate young girl in tow. The actors, children and adults alike, underplay their roles in so naturalistic a fashion that one does not even feel they are performing at all; the film, through them, becomes a magical fabric of life that draws the audience deep into its world. "Children of Heaven" brilliantly demonstrates that works of art often arise from the observation of the most seemingly mundane concerns of daily life and reminds us that this provides far more drama than all the exploding spaceships, car chases and hyperkinetic melodrama that flood the screen in the guise of entertainment. It certainly shows just how phony, empty and bereft of life most American films are. Don't miss "Children of Heaven"! It is a richly rewarding experience.
Rating: Summary: This movie will change your life forever... Review: There are many movies out there today that are making millions at the box office showing sex, drugs, lust, love, and b.s. that has nothing to do with every day life. Basically, movies today are trying to sell us an image that has no truth to is what-so-ever. I don't remember the last time that I came out of a movie and actually thought about my life and the impact that the movie had caused. It's all about commercialsim these days. The movie industry is not trying to sell you a great movie, they are selling you a product. "Children of Heaven" is not just a movie, it is an eye opener. It shows us the truth about the world. After seeing this movie, my life changed. In my entire existence, I dont think I have ever seen a movie that has ever made such an impact on me and my soul. I guaruntee that after watching this movie, you will not only appreciate what you have, you will appreciate everything around you. I have personally seen this movie 12 times. I have shown it at the schools I teach at, I have taken all my friends and family to see this movie. And it has made an impact on each and every one of their lives. I guaruntee it will make an impact on yours.
Rating: Summary: Can I Give It Anymore Stars? Review: I saw this Iranian movie in America, and it was great. It's the funny and sad story of a poor boy and girl who lose the girl's shoes. The two have to share the shoes that they have. The boy does all he can to get shoes for his sister. It shows the life of foriegn, poor children with hard lives. I really reccomend this touching film.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I was deeply touched by this film. As a modern-day cyber 'chica', who feels proud to call the US her home, I was completely blown away by how this film brought back memories of my childhood in Mexico. I too remember the headmaster, the morning and afternoon shifts at school, boys playing soccer in the evenings, and yes, getting the most out of my shoes. I thank Mr. Majidi for his message of simplicity and love and for reminding me of the importance having the right perspective. I am recommending this film to EVERYONE I know.
Rating: Summary: Simply That, Children of Heaven Review: I first saw this movie for my Theology class, and let me say that this is one of the most touching and heart-warming movie I have seen in years. It brought tears to my eyes. This movie is so sophisticated and modern. It's setting is so real... I recommend this video to all! Can't wait till the video comes out!
Rating: Summary: Simply beautiful Review: This film proves that the true beauty of a film lies in its message not necessarily its budget. This movie is worth renting for everyone, there is no other like it out there. Wonderful glimpse into a society very unlike our own...This film will make you cry with its simple message of the love in a poor Iranian family. The ending is superb!
Rating: Summary: Very tender and sweet Review: This is a very sweet story of children taking desparate measures to keep there little worlds functioning. It's very intelligent in that it does a fine job of capturing the worrys and compassion of children. The children pull off their performances very well. One reviewer commented that this film doesn't exceed the best of American filmaking. I would agree, but good "family films," in the United States are rarely as well done as this one. This film is in line with "To Kill a Mockingbird" in peeking into the life of children.
