Rating: Summary: "Camber well Carrot!" Review: I'm sorry but if you haven't seen this film by now, it is probably to late. Living now in an area where only USA versions of films are released, I'm afraid to tell you all, it has been cut. Why? I have no idea, neither violent or pornographic, all I can say is it was one of the funniest films of the 80s. All I suggest if you haven't seen it yet is get hold of an old Jaguar and drive to the north of England...pissed out of your mind..its as close as you will get. Excellent!
Rating: Summary: Brilliantly written and uncontrollably funny Review: The only movie that I have ever rewatched directly after my first viewing. If your a withnail virgin then pop your cherry and watch this movie - but take precautions.
Rating: Summary: Pure genius, start to finish... Review: "Ah, boys, there is no true beauty without decay..." "The f**ker will rue the day!" "The finest wines known to man. And cake!" No point outlining the plot, as many others have done it for me. Suffice to say that this is one of the best films ever made, English or otherwise, and a perfect period peace. It does get sadder with each viewing, it's true, but that's growing old, I guess... Some of the best one-liners ever written... "What are you doing?" "I'm making time." "But you can't drive!" "No, I'm making time..." genius...
Rating: Summary: My favorite movie Review: The only problem is that the latest video edition has been trimmed of about three minutes of the movie. If you haven't seen it before you won't notice anything, but if you know the movie, watching this edition is quite frustrating. For instance, if you're waiting to hear Marwood say "My thumbs have gone weird!" you won't. They really need to re-release the whole movie.
Rating: Summary: A British comedy classic Review: There's a reason why fans of this movie have memorized the dialogue -- it's dark, sick, and hilariously funny. The role of Danny the drug dealer is an actor's dream, and Richard E. Grant is rivetingly bitter.
Rating: Summary: unbelievably close to perfect! Review: I cannot in one lifetime sing the praises of this film enough. While predominantly comedic, it is touching, saddening and though invoking. You are left with aching sides, and plenty of food for thought. This film is my favorite, and arguably one of the best of the twentieth century. It is the film for anyone with a love of British comedy.
Rating: Summary: My stomach hurts Review: Funnier than Macbeth is tragic, this film will outlast its era to the same extent. Indeed, phrases from it are already making their way into the English language. Once you've seen it you will marvel that there was ever a time when you hadn't.
Rating: Summary: One of my top ten movies! An absolute to own. Review: Simply brilliant comedy; best appreciated if you were born prior to 1965. Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann are dead-on as a pair of aspiring young actors, on the dole and drunk or stoned most of the time, who decide they need a weekend out of town and borrow Uncle Monty's place in the bucolic copuntryside with hysterical results. Just the right bit of poignancy. Captures the era perfectly. I'm buying another copy becase I'm afraid my original is wearing out from so much use.
Rating: Summary: "Classic" Review: There is no recommendation high enough. The cast is the perfect example of British comedy at its best. Richard E. Grant is fantastic as the eccentric Withnail and Paul Mcgann has done nothing better since. I would advise anyone with even a slight sense of humour to buy it now.
Rating: Summary: A remarkably accurate view of a remarkably strange world. Review: My first impression of Withnail & I was of familiarity and I found the whole film hilarious. I immediately recommended it to everyone and was surprised when some returned with reports of a sad film with funny moments. I have seen it numerous times since and rank it as one of the best films I have ever seen. How you respond will reflect on how you view life but I can guarantee a chuckle and some refreshing views of the English countryside.
