Summary: Best gangster film ever!
Review: First time i watched this film, i enjoyed everything about it, although at first a little confusing with the time changing aspect on viewing it a few times i was able to follow the storyline with more understanding, along with Ennio Morricone's fantastic panpipe's and musical score. This for me is the ultimate gangster film, iv'e watched The godfather trilogy, Goodfella's etc whilst thoroughly enjoying these too, De niro's performance along with Woods, Mcgovern, Forsythe, and CO, are unsurpassable.

Summary: Deep,disturbing,heavy BRILLIANT!
Review: I first watched this film about a year ago(It cost me £40 as its out of print over herte in the u.k)and as a big de niro was looking foward to a classic bit of cinema. On my first watch I sat up and thought to myself what the hell was all that about. So the next day another viewing was in order to make sense of the situation and everything fell into place and as the credits rolled i just realised i had just watched one of the greatest movies EVER!! made. What made the movie for me was de niros complete lack of emotion as he is confronted with his past and refusing to accept the truth about his best friend Max although every emotion he feels is visible to see.All the people who acted in this were superb. This movie is a masterpiece and deserves a lot more recognition.

Summary: A film that lifts Leone to one of the great film directors
Review: A true masterpiece in the history of cinema.
Leone creates a sublime example of form and content fusing to produce an art text.
Here is a film showing the viewer the pure and unique form of cinema and why it is the most potent and influential medium of communication.

Summary: Masterpiece
Review: It does fill me with incredulity how and why this movie has yet to be transferred to DVD. It is regarded by genuine film historians as one of the top five greatest masterpieces ever produced. The various different versions add to the growing myth. Is there a cut out there even longer than the longest cut shown already? According to some reports the answer is yes.

... The chief one concerning its subject matter ie Jewish gangsters and the federal reserve bank raid portrayed. Was leone delving too deeply into the founding of present day america. Does James Woods character bare too many similarity to some famous individuals. Was art imitating life a little too closely. Of course these accusations only add to the films mystique and will ensure people will be talking about OUATIA for many years to come.

Summary: Unforgettable movie after 10 years......
Review: Well, what should I say? I first heard of this movie when I was in China in the 80s. I first saw the movie during Christmas season in 91, my first Chirstmas in the States. I watched it alone. After 4 hours of pure torture and angst (that's my highest compliment to any movies who genuinely touch the audiences), I cannot help sobbing and crying for a good 15 minutes. Only a handful movies moved me to tears (ages of innocence, breaking the waves, dancer in the dark, to name a few). Rarely have there been a movie that I can identify with half a dozen characters and care about their lives. I had to spend another 4 hours watching the movie again the following day.
I have at least watched this movie for 8 times since then. I can never forget Noodles and Max, for christ's sake, even after 10 years I first saw the movie. Thermatically, this is the strongest movie that I have ever watched, and it surpassed the best that Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kurosawa, Scorsese, Visconti have ever offered. It's that good. This is the movie, along with probably 'Casablanca', 'decalogue', 'cinema paradiso', 'seven samurai', 'the leopard', 'the passion of joan arc', 'la strada', and 'andrei rublev', that I would like to forever cherish in my spectacular movie collections (I have about 1000 DVDs and some LDs and VHSs).
Also, did I mention the spectacular score Morricone composed for this movie? Morricone was robbed for an Oscar for this movie and 'cinema paradiso', and to a lesser extent, 'once upon a time in the west' and 'the mission'. Heck, these scores are better than anything that the great John Williams has ever composed, maybe with the exception of the main theme from "ET" and "Schindler's List".
Now I do have a LD collection for this movie. I just cannot understand why Paramount has not released a DVD version of this masterpiece so far. BTW, this movie is much better appreciated in the widescreen format, which, the Brazilian DVD does not offer.
Finally, the sad truth: This movie was supposed to be the highest tribute that Leone paid to the US, and yet it was largely ignored by the latter. Well, the theme in the movie seemed to have repeated itself in Sergio's life. What an irony!

I heard recently that Warner Brothers is going to release the movie on DVD in 03.
