Summary: Absolutely Wonderful!
Review: The thing that surprised me most about this wonderful film was Alan Rickman's subtly sweet performance. Those who do not fall immediately in love with Hugh Grant's stammering charmer Edward Ferrars, will certainly find themselves drawn in by Rickman's heartbreaking Col. Brandon. Don't let the "chick-flick" title fool you, this is a terrific movie.

Review: This is without a doubt one of the most moving and beautiful films I have ever seen. The irony is kept at a perfect level, so the film is neither too "sweet" nor too cynical. The acting is as good as it gets. Especially Emma Thompson gives a performance that touches your heart.

Summary: Very good acting & portrayal of characters
Review: I enjoyed this movie except for the fact that there were so many "previews" before hand that the entire movie could not be put on the tape. The gaps were very obvious to me. I really enjoyed Grant. This was the first time I had seen him in any movie. If the entire movie had been put on tape, I would have given it 5 stars.

Summary: A Timeless Story
Review: Every time I see S&S I find another line or look or gesture that I missed or overlooked on a previous viewing. This film is filled with wonderful nuances, simplicity, real emotion. For example, the looks on Elinor's face when she thinks that her beloved is engaged and she must keep the secret or when she thinks he got married...those looks break your heart. The last 20 minutes of this movie are about the most perfect 20 minutes of any film I've seen. Beautiful acting from all parties - witty insightful dialogue - not over the top or overdone in any sense of the word.

Review: I'm not going to babble on and on about how incredible this movie is. Simply, it IS the best movie I've ever seen. This is the only film in which I can honestly say there is not one thing I would change. I only hope that other movie makers in the future will make films of this caliber. Breathtaking, amazing, humorous, joyful, touching . . .art in the purest sense. Amen to S&S!

Summary: What an Exquisite film!!
Review: I absolutely loved it. From the beginning, both Emma Thompson's and Kate Winslet's performances as the Dashwood sisters were fabulous and most realistic. Hugh Grant was also perfect in his role, and I enjoyed seeing Alan Rickman in a good-guy role in a movie. The costumes, the secenery, all contributed to one fantastic experience.

Review: What a wonderful film! Emma Thompson has done a splendid job with the script and she is so good in it that you forget that she's really too old for the role. The rest of the acting is top-notch too and as for the sets and scenery, wow. Kate Winslet is so good in this and looks more beautiful than in anything else she's appeared in. Her skin and hair look perfect and flawless and she just glows. What a pity they slapped all that makeup on her in Titanic.

Review: This is a brilliantly adapted film, and the acting is first rate! The two Dashwood sisters compliment and contrast each other perfectly. The score is beautiful, as are the locations and costumes. The story is heartfelt and romantic. A must-see for any true romantic!

Summary: Lovely movie
Review: While this was beautifully done, it must have created an ache in the heart of other Jane Austen's fans, too. With the exception of Kate Winslet, (whose portrayal and youthful looks could have passed for seventeen year old Marianne Dashwood at a stretch) the cast were either too old - or in the case of Margaret, the younger sister, too young! For example, the ages of the sisters should have been 19, 17 and 14, not thirty-something, twenty something and prepubescent! Emma Thompson really should have resisted the temptation to take on the role of Elinor and should have casted the older characters more realistically. However, if one ignores Miss Austen's novel, including the underlying truths, the real relationship between the sisters, and the absence of the critical scene, in which a penitent Willoughby arrives at Cleveland to acknowledge and face the consequences of his selfish actions, the movie was a delightful and picturesque costume drama, rather well done, enjoyable and worth watching again.
