Summary: original movie rare magic real romance
Review: Enormously moving film with some truly amazing acting, particularly Delpy - what a face! It takes guts integrity & talent for an American director to make a film like this. I'm still always amazed at the brilliance of Slacker.

Summary: Movie Even the Blind Can Love
Review: I can turn off the video portion and just listen to the dialogue and still understand the heart of the movie, which I loved. The beautiful Vienna scenary and facial expression only add to the movie's soul - the brilliant dialogue.

This movie comes as a complete shock to me - the degree to how much I loved it. You see, I don't buy many romatic/tear-jerker/silly/girly movies. I'm more of a Action (Arnold/StarWars/Matrix) and soft-core porn man. Indeed, I was scaning for the soft-core stuff when this came up. Three things made me buy it: (1) Ethan Hawke - I like his style of acting (Gattica, Great Expectations) - no I'm not gay; (2) Great reviews; and (3) Cheap as hell DVD.

Still, I put off watching it. Only months later - last night - did I see it. INCREDIBLE, BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL - about describes it. (Maybe add in TRAGIC - for I have never experience THAT in real life, yet).

I loved so many things in the movie, but I fell most for (Oh, jeez, I must confess) the likes of the "milkshake" poet, phone thing, snap shot ending, etc. A lot of the little scenes that complete the movie.

This movie makes my TOP 10, along side Star Wars, Matrix and Braveheart. The only other romantic movie that even comes close is "FALL" (about a cab-driver poet) and Twice-Upon a Yesterday (Penelope Cruz).

Any girls that look like Juile Delpy wanna meet me in Vienna in six months on platform 9? Email me at .... Or hell, we can make a new movie in NYC!

Summary: One of the most truthful movies
Review: After I saw this I was just like thinking how right on this is .I myself and a lot other's have been in the same situation, you know where you swear your in love and then you write the person about 3 times the rest of your life (mine being summer camp). These 2 charecters Hawke and Delpy say the thing's we either wish we could say or would absolutely never say.One question i had was with the rating no violence or nudity and only mild langauge should have given it p or p13.Too many memorable scenes in this movie none really stand out, all in all one of the best of the 90's .

Summary: Great Film
Review: Richard Linklater has a knack of tapping into unforced, true to life, real human dialogue and emotions that usually don't seem so effortless on screen. This is certainly the case with this film, "Before Sunrise." The transformation of the characters after they get off the train is as realistic as anything I've seen in any film. The backdrop locations in Vienna were shot in a way that really made me feel as though I had been there after the film was over. This is a gem of a film. I loved it.

Summary: Awful. Simply dreadful
Review: Not one frame of this turgid romance/travelogue is remotely believable. The pacing is insultingly plodding. Our luststruck couple pose before the unusual tourist attractions. And the French girl recites standard trevel guide blurbs in every case. In every case these pat travel guide spiels are much less painful than the utterly unbelievable claptrap that passes for romantic banter. In one case the boy pantomimes calling home to tell his parents about the girl. After this interminable and unendurable monologue, he requires her to do the same.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Summary: Romantic-Yes but dont forget Intelligent
Review: Ive read most of the reviews here and what has not been mentioned is the content of the dialog in this movie. I dont reccomend it for everybody because it is a very heady movie but if you have the desire to listen to intelligent conversation this is the movie for you. What struck me when I saw it was that thy talked about everything. Life, Love, Politics, Dreams. It is a conversation I picture myself having if I were Celine. And the thoughts and questions they expressed are the same thoughts and questions that I have had. Thats what got me about this movie. That I too have had these same conversations with people and said the same things. I think that this movie speaks to a special group of people... those who dare to think. I have only seen this movie twice.. I am so happy it is now on DVD and cant wait till my copy comes so I can watch it again.. and again.

Summary: ÈTHAN AND JULIE GREAT
Review: Ethan and Julie are great as Jesse and Celine. It is a beautiful told piece of filmmaking where the dialogue is the important factor. It`s so realistic and u remember similar experiences dangerously close 2 those in the picture.
A minus is the streets, backalleys and parks of Vienna. They look quite cleansed of the underworld creatures.
But this is a treat...

Review: A romance set in Europe (and Vienna at that!). Beautiful.

Summary: Nostalgic masterpiece
Review: Few films have had any profound impact on me or my life, thus one can imagine my shock when I found this little film and it shook me at my foundation. Maybe it's the result of my having Eurailed partially across Europe with a young Irish girl I met while working at a somewhat remote American hotel in Bavaria, Germany. I will forever remember and cherish the experince I had and this film does an excellent job of conveying the innocence and care-free days of those who are lucky enough to make such a trek. This Irish dove and I had no idea about the future and were unconcerned with the past. We were just there to simply have fun and ride the train. Looking back on those days, a sense of melancholy sweeps over me, leaving me wistful for those long lost days. This film aptly portrays the yearning that we have all felt at one time for something solid, beautiful, and ultimately fleeting. For that, I am moved and grateful.
