Review: first of all, the DVD get's 4 stars cuz the special feature section is poor.

To the main point, Jesse and Celine does get back together, for those of you that are wondering. Just check out Director Linklater's new movie, Waking Life. There is a scene between the two, continuing Jesse's discussion on the bus about human souls.

Summary: What a romantic comedy should be: true to the heart
Review: Lately, Hollywood has been rehashing the sappy, neurotic comedy style for the Romance genre into the same film for each wave of young actors, upcoming and already situated as celebrities. Meg Ryan has been overcast as the same, myopic lonely American woman, John Cusack equally branded with similar roles of the opposite gender.

What Linklater did for Gen-X with his groundbreaking film Slackers, he's given to the genre of the Romantic comedy with the same integrity and off-beat style that marks his fortitude. Linklater has come a long way from his stomping grounds in Texas. For Before Sunrise, he's recruited Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy into roles that seem as if written for the actors, staking his claim upon the winding cobblestone streets of Vienna.

The film is a venue of dialogue that is real, not pandering to emotions and melodrama. Hawke and Delpy discuss life, love, philosophy, and death in a 14 hour window before a respective train to Paris and plane back to the U.S., possibly forever separating the two. From this description, you would think this is a film of never ending chatter and neurotic bantering of the psyche and human nature. Not at all. Linklater creates an emotional connection between the couple that is sealed with kisses beneath an Austrian moon, tales of heartbreak, 1st crushes, discussions of human compulsion in cafes and a seedy bar. The words that Hawke and Delpy speak are our own experiences, played out by two actors who seem to enjoy, if not relish their roles and dailogue that is a refreshing change from the cliches and stale bitching of so many other "Romantic" films.

Before Sunrise has much more hidden in the shadows and alleys of Vienna. Allusions to Freud, Orson Welles, and other innocuous references make the film enjoyable upon an intellectual level, but the film's mainstay is it's romantic honesty that makes the movie an enjoyable romp in the hay.

Summary: While with Parisians...
Review: Before Sunrise is one of those films that starts off slowly and never really picks up pace. The journey is what this film is about. Yeah it is kind of slow, but a good slow, that would lose it's appeal if it were any faster.

This film is quite typical of the romatic comedy genre, but it stands out due to it's strong lead performances and unique narrative stucture. The plot is simple. A boy (Ethan Hawke) meets a girl (Julie Delpy) on a train in Europe and they only have one day to spend together. Do they fall in love? Do they walk off into that sunset? Well...see the movie.

Richard Linklater who made one of my all time cult favorites in Dazed and Confused has made a pleasant and engaging film. The chemistry between Hawke and Delpy is apparent before they even speak to each other. The script is filled with observations and insights that are not typically seen in this type of film. Not a whole lot happens with the story, but a whole lot happens with the characters. It is well done.

Traveling by train is the best way to travel through Europe, I can tell you. Since I saw this movie I always wanted to go to Vienna. The question, after you've seen this movie, is: Could this happen to me? Ever?? Maybe we all should try!
Everybody should see this diamond of a movie! IT`S THE PERFECT LOVESTORY and the most romantic movie forever!!! WATCH IT and dream...

Summary: Do they end up together?
Review: I absolutely love this film. The answer to the burning question lies in Linklater's movie "Waking Life". It's kind of hard to watch at times but one scene answered "The Question". It made me feel good.

Summary: A Truly Magical Movie
Review: At first, I was surprised I was even watching this movie. I'm older now. Been married for 20 years. Not really into "chick flicks" but something about the dialog between these two young people caught my attention when I surfed into this movie. These kids were truly something. The young lady was everything I would want my daughter to be. Smart, articulate, pretty, honest, independent and sensible. She was a lot of fun to listen to. The boy was honorable and really seemed to care for this girl. I hope my sons treat the women they fall in love with with the same respect. Why would a middle age guy like me like this movie? I think it took me back to a time where I remember feeling the magic and excitment from meeting someone for the first time. It was pretty nice to feel this again for a short time. I guess I forgotten how it felt to be so intrigued by someone that nothing else in the world mattered. It was rare to have this feeling and something that we will all remember when it does happen....or something we would want to experience again. It's like a gift. It reminded me of that Neil Young song Like a Hurricane....."...that magic moment right before you kissed my lips, time just slips....". I hope I remeber the words right. This is truly an excellent movie with great dialog. A true gem in a world of rotten, corny movies minus the breast shots and gratuitous sex scenes. None of that in this movie. Just a very honest and natural progression in a short-term relationship that both charactures really appreciate.

This is just a very good movie. Perhaps one of the best I have ever seen. Not sure why it's rated "R". Perhaps some of the language but I have heard worse in my son's Jr. High School.

Watch this movie and experience a wonderful feeling that you probably haven't experienced in years or maybe never experienced but want to. It makes this guy appreciate the woman that I have a little bit more than I did.

Summary: Sweet Sorrow
Review: Doesn't everybody at sometime want this? It's a sweet memory in the making, the story that you will tell your friends/lovers for decades to come (and it will get better with age). It is perfect in its brevity. Both characters know that they will go back to their lives, probably never see each other again, and want to hold onto the moment.

I stumbled upon this film on dish, and I was not immediately drawn in as I was not too familiar with the actors, but it grows on you. It is hard not to imagine yourself in the same situation.
