Rating: Summary: In its low-key way, absolute perfection Review: Funny, romantic, jazzy, and ultimately heartbreaking, this long-night's-journey-into-day is so beautifully written (by Richard Linklatter) and exquisitely performed by Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, it will probably soon be regarded as one of the three best love stories of the '90's. If you can keep from weeping when Hawke takes Delpy's "picture" by simply staring at her lovely face for thirty completely silent seconds, you are a stronger man than I.
Rating: Summary: A classic romantic film that really stays with you Review: I absolutely love this movie and never grow tired of it. Yes, it's talky but in the best sense--you are watching two people talk their way into each others' lives. They may try to hide who they are but we see beyond that. There is one moment in this film where Julie Delpy says, "It's stupid..." to believe relationships can last forever but you see in her eyes that she wants Ethan Hawke to disagree with her. It is acting at its finest and it breaks my heart everytime.
Rating: Summary: Get a Eurail Pass to Go With This Film Review: Here is a real treat: a film about two students in Europe that is literate, witty, realistic and very romantic. Celine and Jesse meet on a train. The two get off a Vienna to spend one night exploring the city and each other. Time stops for one magical night as Vienna becomes the urban version of Arden Forrest and Celine and Jesse fall in love. This is real Valentine's Day film.
Rating: Summary: Witnessing poetry in motion Review: Watching Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy engaging in the timeless art of conversation, and watching them engage in the flirtatious games we've all been a party to at one time or another, is truly mezmerizing...Throughout the entire movie you feel as if you're an invisible bysander who's been allowed to follow and share in the priceless experience with no one taking notice...The film resembles a documentary through and through and finishes with the uncertainty that anyone who's been in love has experienced. The scene towards the end where Ethan takes a "picture" of Julie...the Harpsichords deep melodic notes drifting from the dwellings below is by far the essence of the film...This movie is for anyone who relishes the idea of love at first sight.
Rating: Summary: "The Clock" - only better -50 years later Review: BEFORE SUNRISE(1995) stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy who meet on a train in Austria, like each other and spend the evening and night just talking. It`s great. Both stars are natural and we have all more or less "been there"...
Rating: Summary: Wandering a European City Review: My wife and I were really amazed that a movie could capture so well the feelings, the sights, the rhythm -- even the smells, it seemed -- of the unique experience of wandering around an old European city, with nothing but time, little money, and someone you love. Watching this video is the next best thing to getting back there to do it again.
Rating: Summary: Sounds Familiar... Review: If you've ever travelled through Europe in a train, roamed through cities like Vienna and bumped into characters like the amateur artists in the cow play or the poet by the river, and above all, if you've ever met the right person at the end of a journey and had to say good bye...this is your movie. It captures so well the moments, the gist, the atmosphere... You can watch it again and again and again and find new details every time. Not to mention the beautiful photography. A must.
Rating: Summary: Life changing!! Review: There are only a few movies in which you can enter, imagine yourself in the characters position. This movie will make you reflect about life, and the way you see things. Sensitive people will be delighted and the rude ones are going to become sensitive for as long as the movie magic spell lasts.
Rating: Summary: One of my all-time favorites Review: No explosions, no car crashes or high-speed pursuits, no gunshots ... Just one of the most wonderful movies ever made that allows us to be witness to the development of a perfectly romantic relationship between two strangers who meet on a train headed towards a truly romantic city (Vienna) and their one day/night together. You will want to see the movie again, and again, and again ... maybe because you want their relationship to last forever.
Rating: Summary: A magical bubble time. Review: There is a time that I hope we all experience that is "magical" and perfect and that we always remember in a special place. This movie captures that moment for these two characters. The actors make it live for us. When you watch the movie be prepared to be drawn into it and to never want that moment to end.
