Summary: "Art Film for Dummies"
Review: If you've always been put off by "artsy" films due to their lack of action or speed, then you need to see "The Red Violin". This is quite possibly the best "art film" ever made. The reason I believe this: it has a constant flow throughout...it's not a study on one place in time. Also, there are no extended closed door private conversations or over-done symbolic camera work. Even a child could follow the story line and appreciate the beauty and mystery within. The movie follows a violin throughout the ages. And, at the end of the movie, we see it setting out on another voyage in the hands of a new owner.

Pick it up if you have a chance, you will not be disappointed!

Summary: BEWARE! Buy the Universal/MCA Edition DVD Instead!!!
Review: This DVD edition by Lion's Gate has a significant subtitle deficiency. While much of this movie is in German, French, Italian and Mandarin (?), the only English subtitles available are for the hearing impaired, so they appear at all times and provide sound descriptions as well, which can be quite a distraction. The Universal/MCA DVD offers a setting for English subtitles for the foreign languages only, as one should expect. Why Lion's Gate missed this is beyond me.

The movie is great-but don't buy this edition unless you are hearing impaired.
